I just got my bunny a few days ago. A couple of days ago, I tried to pet him so that he can sit on a nice blanket I got for him. He scrabbled away and gave me the cold shoulder sitting with his back to me. Yesterday I was trying to pet him and couldn’t stop myself- I picked him up for a few mins. Now he’s both mad at me and scared. Will he ever forgive me? I swear on my mother’s grave to never pick him up ever again unless absolutely necessary.

He will get over it . Just give him time. He’s in a new environment. Give him a oxbow treat to gain his trust . Usually rabbits don’t like being picked up.

I’m sure he will get over it eventually. I know it’s hard to resist, but you really should allow him time to settle in his new home. You need to work on gaining his trust too. Picking him up and holding him, especially when you first bring him home, is going to be counterproductive.

He will forgive you. The way to a rabbit’s heart is food and patience. 🙂

Play “hard to get”. Spend time in the same room and on the floor but “ignore” your bun. Reading a book or watching a quiet movie will all help them relax around you. Don’t try to pet until bun relaxes near you on their own.
