Ok so the past 24 hours has been crap.  Basically last night Bugz was out and I was wondering in and out.  I had put Anya away as they are not allowed out together without each as worried about him getting her up the duff.  Well last night I go have a shower and come back and find Miffy and Bugz both out! Some how Miffy has gotten out of her cage, I really have no clue how she did that but that was not the worse part Bugz is humping her like a mad man!  ARGHHH I screamed at him and clapped and tried to get into the room (I have a barrier up at the moment and not easy to get past) but then he does this little squeal thing, he whole body frezes up and he rocked backwards, and lies on his back making be signing noises (I have to admit it was kind of cute) so I think he “did the dead”.  Now I know that he was snipped 2 weeks ago but everyone tells me that you have to watch it for 6 weeks so flipping out here cause REALLY REALLY REALLY do not want baby bunnies.  *bangs head against desk* I feel so bad that I have put both of them in this situation.  Everyone is staying locked up today and new cages in seperate rooms are being made tonight!

Add to this, I went to clean out Miffy’s cage last night and she has built a nest in the corner of the cage, she was really agressive when I tried to have a look at it and if Itried to do anything inside her cage!  So not happy, granted if she is making the nest now chances are she was preggers when she came to me but I really can’t handle this today!

Oh dear…well if she is actually pregnant, she would be close to delivering I think. At least you know it wouldn’t have been via Bugz though. I’m estimating you’ve had her for 2 weeks? The other thing is sometimes unspayed female can have false or phantom pregnancies when being around a male (usually intact ones) Bugz hormones could still have triggered hers into a false pregnancy… I hope for your sake it is false.

Oh no! I think I remember reading on a different thread that Miffy isn’t spayed yet? (I guess if she was, you wouldn’t be freaking out :/ ) Anyway, it’s very possible that she’s pregnant now. However, having Bugz hump her may have triggered a false pregnancy. But you can never know for sure. You should look into having your vet do an emergency spay for her. How young/old is Miffy, is there a reason (cost/her age…) that she can’t be spayed yet?

I’m not too sure if that would be the actual trigger…more so just being in same household as him and his hormones. Angelic, I just re-read your other post about Miffy having what you thought was blood on her. Did you establish it was blood?

I’m sorry to say it but the manner in which you were handed Miffy, there is a good chance she was impregnanted beforehand.  I hope I’m wrong.  Maybe get in touch with the guys from BOING again and ask their advice. They might have a support network that can assist you.

thanks guys. No she is not spayed and the reason is she is a foster and I can’t afford the $200 that it is going to cost to get her spay at the moment (I had an issue with my birds which has put me into $5000 worth of debt) I have tried to talk to a few vets about doing it for cheaper but so far no luck. As for the blood never established what it was or where it came from. I have spoken to a few resuce shelters and they say to leave her and not adopt her out till I know what is going on, so I am goingto reset the clock and start counting from last night and see if she pops anything out! Grrrrrr I had someone lined up to take her after her initial 35 day period but now she has said that she would not be intrested unless I am 110% sure she is not preggers, however building the nest in the past 24 hours (before she got out with Bugz) make me think that she was already when I got her. There where two “teenage” male rabbits in the pet shop when I got from them and they where not in the same cage but that does not mean that they did not have contact ealier in the week. I guess I will now just have to play the waiting game and pray. I am really annoyed with myself for letting this happen!

So Bugz was neutered 2 weeks ago – the general consensus is one month that they can still possibly impregnate not 6 weeks. So you MAY be okay but you never can know for sure.

^^ hehehe (Yes-a weee little trojan)

Question-how old is Anya…for some reason I thought she was really young.

False pregnancies (coupling without insemination of eggs) can result in nest building behavior. Since she’s doing it 24 after being humped-doubtful it’s him who did it.

I’d wager either she was already prego, or is havng a false pregnancy. Mom’s build nests the day before or the day they give birth, unless it’s a false pregnancy then it’s usually two weeks after doing the deed.

Anya is not on the one I m worried about it is Miffy who is 2 years old. I am moving her over the weekend into another room of the house and hopefully this will stop the behaviour however if she is up the duff there is really not much i can do now.

If she is a foster rabbit, the rescue should be covering vet care. Can you contact them and let them know what is going on and see if they can get her in for an Emergency spay?

Rescues over here are a bit different then the states. There is really one one or two real bunny rescues and the rest are done by people like me. I run a bird shelter and I try and give as much time and care to these animals as I can. I also try and give as much money towards vet care. In the past 6 months I put approx $5000 into some rescue birds all out of my own pocket and the donations and re homing fees (when and if I charge them) come no where near the costs that it envolves in running the shelter. in fact I have to only take a few birds in and have to be tough about who I take and why I can take them. Miffy came to be and yes I have been involved with BOING the rabbit rescue in melbourne but again she is like me an animal lover doing this out of the goodness of her heart and her own pocket. If it was cheaper to get rabbits spayed over here then I would just do it but I can’t spay them all and you have to pick your battles and work out where the money is best spent. I did manage to rehome her with a lady that wants to get her spayed to help with the toliet training and also health reasons. She is going to take her to the vet this week and discuss options.

Well the vet does not think she is up the duff which is good. They discussed spaying but due to her weight they want to wait a bit to reduce the chances of anything going wrong.

I’m glad to hear that it doesn’t sound like she is pregnant! I have never head the phrase “up the duff” before so I was really confused…I thought it meant “sick” or something…

Anyways, I’m glad to hear she has a home and that *hopefully* she isn’t pregnant!

That’s great the lady has agreed to take her still. Thank goodness. Hope Miffy has a good home with her.

Moobunnay, I’m wondering if “Up the duff” is another one of those English & Aussie phrases? hehe  AngelicV could have used the term “a bun in the oven”….but yeah, that one would have been kind of confusing in reference to bunnies!
