As of recently, I’ve noticed Louie seeming much thinner than Lola. I was less concerned several months ago when he was still younger, but lately, he has been seeming pretty thin, his shoulder blades, spine, and back legs bones feeling much more prominent than Lola’s. I’ve started feeding him separately from Lola, in case she is eating more than her share, and added a small amount of oats into his daily mix. We’re planning on taking them both to the vet around December or January when they reach approximately one year old, and I was going to ask then. Another concern I might have is parasites? Could they be making him thinner? We’re first going to try upped pellets and some oats though.

I would suggest you start weighing him twice a week (or even more often to begin with) and keep a weight diary. This way you’ll soon be able to determine if he starts gaining due to the separate feedings, or if he loses more weight in spite of getting more food. I weigh my bun in a bowl on digital kitchen scales on the floor -in case the bun decides to jump out of the bowl, its safer if it’s on the floor.

Rabbits are not commonly dewormed routinely, but they can get intestinal worms. Pinworms can be seen with the naked eye on freshly pooped poop. E cuniculi is also a parasite, but it cant be seen. It can cause weight loss, but so can many other things.
