I’m still in the middle stages of building Penelope’s (and someday Thumper’s also) house. My plan is to have it be three stories. This is it so far:

Sorry it’s so messy, I’ve haven’t cleaned it yet this week! I’m stuck though and I need your thoughts because I know plenty of people on here have built one of these things! My level is sagging. It’s not sagging a bunch in the picture because I have where the door is supposed to be zipped-tied. But how would I fix this? I thought of putting something like a dowel rod up it but I don’t exactly know how I would do that.

Any suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated! I’ve been working on this darn house FOREVER and I will not let it get the best of me!  Plus, I’m sure that Penelope would really like a finished home! lol

You could use a dowel rod – metal or wood. You just zip tie it in place on the ends – they’ll poke out a bit. I’ve never made one of these but they use them at the guinea pig rescue I help and that’s what they use to secure the levels.

OH! So I would stick it in horizontal and let it support it that way? I had vertical in my mind and was like, ‘how would i even do that?’. Man, I feel kinda dumb now.. Thanks though Sarita!

Yes, underneath the upper flooring. Usually they go across the width of the cage.

Is there no roof on the top? My levels sag a little, but using a lot of zip ties to attach it to the roof helped to “pull” the levels up.

There will be a roof eventually, I just didn’t want to put the next level on before I figured out how to make the levels stop sagging
