As most of you know i was having some problems with hopscotch’s teenage years and…. my vet finally agreed that hopscotch is big enough to have his neuter!!

Initially although his balls had dropped (sorry to be blunt lol) he was still to small for the operation and he would prefer to wait a while before he does it, i dropped him in the other day to see if he was ready yet and i have my appointment, I’m petrified  but at the same time glad it will all be over soon!

Anyway any tips to bare in mind guys for when i bring him home and stuff? Also it is correct that they should be allowed to eat in the morning right? I remember everyone saying because they cannot vomit?

And. dont hate me guys… lol but i am considering another bunny, a lady by me had a bunny who got pregnant, sadly the mother died from some sort of an infection shortly after giving birth and she doesnt want to keep the only surviving bunny.. I really want it.. But at the same time i don’t want to put hopscotch at risk, would it ever be possible for them to get along after hopscotch is spayed but the other bun isn’t? (Obviously i will get the other bun done as soon as they are old enough!) I really really want to save another bun, i have even bought a new hutch for hopscotch… kind of because i wanted two just in case i got this bun  and i have already got my granddad building me a condo with sections for two buns for when they are bonded… am i absolutely mental to even be considering this? I just know that woman will let whoever have the bunny because she just wants to get rid of him ASAP i think she just wants to cut her loses because of all the vet bills and the upset to her kids and stuff.. I can have him as soon as he is ready to go, in only a week or two..

p.s i thought i wont even have to bunny proof now for that buns teenage years because i have just done it! and when i start my new graduate work my bun will have company from 9-3 when im not at home as i feel guilty he is on his own Am i mad?

you could… but i would not suggest doing that. i’d suggest getting an already spayed adult female for Hopscotch. it will be much easier on you and both of the buns. it’s up to you of course… and i think it’s a great idea to have two, but the ideal would be to wait until a month after Hop’s neuter and then go bunny speed dating.

i understand that male and female would get on better, but this bun needs a home so badly that i could cry at the thought of not having him! i have been to see the little bunny and come back and petted hopscotch, he looked at me strangely (because i smelt of that rabbit) then started licking my hand! (which is the first time he has ever done that!) i have seperate spaces for both, so obviously i would wait till hopscotch was fit and well again before introducing them both to each other but would male and male be such a problem? (if you take bonding hours out althogether i have no trouble spending hours, weeks even months bonding if needs be – i work with kids, patients is my virtue! lol – i just dont want to put hopscotch at risk, he is my priority at the moment)

I would find out exactly why the mother died- you don’t want to introduce anything to Hopscotch that could make him sick.

no it was because of giving birth, i dont know the exact details but she had to have her womb taken out as an emergency and she couldnt recover and died its nothing that hopscotch could get, or that could have been avioded, i did check that! thanks

Could you arrange for a little speed date between Hopscotch and the little bunny just to see their initial reaction? I’ve read here that either love at first sight (rare) or mutual disinterest is promising. Hate at first site is not as hopeful. You could try it first.

If they don’t get along, it sounds like taking the little one to a nearby shelter that you know is better than the woman giving him away to just the first taker. Maybe you could foster him until you find a suitable parent if Hopscotch is against the whole idea. You would be a better judge of humans than this woman would. I know the problem would be giving him up once he’s in your home, so that’s why I thought taking him to a reliable adoption rescue facility might be the answer. Babies get adopted fast.

yes thats a good idea rabbitpam, i could buy him, and give him to responsible people who will look after him well (only if he is really agressive with hopscotch, otherwise i will be keeping him!) that way i will know he has found a good home and wont feel guilty for leaving him, also i will know it wont have worked out instead of looking back thinking what if.. what a great idea! thanks!
she is holding him for me until wednesday but i cant have him untill saturday apparently because she is going to stay with family from wednesday to saturday and she is going to flog him over there if i dont want him.. so i am going to get in touch with her tomorrow morning see if i can have him before she goes away or if not arrange to get him saturday, she only wants £20 for him.. which is why i knew if i didnt have him just anyone would take him because he was so cheap, i paid more than double that for hopscotch, and the woman i got him from was trying to get rid of him.. oh its a sad world

You know the best advice is always the one that agrees with what you really want to do. right back atcha!

I’m also thinking that Hopscotch should meet him before the snipsnip at the vet, because he will be in recover for a while afterward.

Why do I think they’d have to tear off a pillow full of fur before you will be convinced that they won’t get along?

“flog him over there”? A UK expression? (I love reading the posts from UK and Australia.)
Saturday is tomorrow for you? Because it’s 6PM on Saturday evening here right this minute. That is so cool.

flog him over there means she will sell him when she goes on holiday if she cant sell him here
no saturday as in next week, its 15minutes before midnight here (going into sunday) she is going on wednesday of next week, and i can have him on saturday of next week.
and yes i dont think there is much chance i will get rid of him *blush* but at the same time i have to do what is best by hopscotch so i am going to take him round on monday thanks guys!

Good lucky Kimberly&Darren! I hope everything works out and I think the idea that if they really don’t get along, you can at least find a good home for him. Poor little fella needs an angel like you to save him!

TBH that woman sounds like a complete prat. So she is planning on taking a very young rabbit who will already be at risk of GI upsets because he has been handreared all of the way to London to ‘see her family’. She sounds like a complete moron and I wouldn’t be surprised that she doesn’t give you the bunny…. the fact you are paying her and getting a receipt won’t legally mean a thing unfortunately. In fact I hate people who try and sell rabbits because it’s hard enough to rehome them as it is…..people who sell them don’t give a stuff who takes them on. With the litter I had here I didn’t ask for money from their new homes. It cost me a fortune to feed them and keep their playhouse clean with straw and hay everyday being such a large area but I couldn’t have taken money for them, I would have felt cheap. Also I actually was out of pocket because I had to give away my big hutch and pay to build one for my sister who rehomed two…and I’ll have the two spays and vaccinations to pay for with the two I have here at the moment. My aunt still hasn’t even said thank you or offered to reimburse me any costs…. But I don’t care so long as the rabbits have good homes. Sorry went slightly off topic there….

I really hope you get this bun and pray that they will get along. You won’t have any problems from the baby so it’s hopscotch who will call the shots 🙂
I have two unrelated bonded buck though, just depends on their personality.
