We’re going to Lubbock(TX) next weekend and I was going to grab a huge bag of woodstove pellets since I hear they are such a good deal, but I’m not sure what stores to go to since I’m not familiar with the area very well, only been there once before for 2 days. Do you think walmart would have them? Where do you get yours from?

I get mine from a feed store, but tractor Supply is supposed to have them, and I have also gotten them from Orchard Supply Hardware, a regular hardware store.

I got mine from Lowes but I am sure any home improvement store would have them as with the ones Osprey already mentioned.

I buy something similar called Equine Fresh from Orscheln Farm and Home. Its basically just like wood stove pellets and I really like it. It cost $5.69 for 40 lbs. They also carried wood stove pellets for about the same size and price, but they kept those outside in the rain so I bought the equine fresh which they kept inside. Plus the manager said that he orginally 5 suppliers, but now only had 1 because they all told him there was a supply shortage. I don’t if there is an Orshceln where you live or where your going but you could go look them up online and see if there will be one close and call them to see if they carry them. If you do go there the equine fresh is usually kept where the farm animal feed is.

I was at Home Depot today but the guy had no idea what I was talking about. Would it be in the landscaping part of it? I am currently using Feline Pine, but would like to switch to wood stove pellets.

HI Ruffles. I found it in two separate places at the same chain so I don’t think it is going to be in the same place. However, at one store I found them on a big pallet by the X-mas stuff and the rest of the bags were in the section with the wood-burning pellet stoves (usually found near the snow-blowers and lawn-mowers). At another store, I had to ask 4 different people and it turns out that they had them at the contractors check-out outside. They used to have them in the lawn and garden area but the bags fell and broke out some glass windows so they had to move them.

Thanks, I’ll look again. I feel like I keep shelling out money for my furry friend. I’d like to find something that I feel like I’m getting a deal on!

I found mine at Menards but after 2 winters of looking at HD, Loews and other places.  not a lot of wood stoves in Chicago apparently

I got mine at Menard’s 40 lbs. for $4.28 and they do work terrific and they are made out of oak and my bunies adjusted to them immediately> I am so glad to fine something economical that is healthy for the buns

I have bought from Home Depot before, but I like that Menards (at least my local store) keeps the bags inside.  I dislike buying them after being stored outside because if they get wet inside the bag they  are mush.  And I buy 6 bags at a time- so it could be months before I find a bad bag.  I buy so many at a time because I have room to store in my garage and want to make sure I have enough during spring/summer time.

Is this for using for litter? What is it?

My local HD does NOT carry WSP, I’m bummed. I don’t think Lowe’s has it either, but I’ll have to triple check. I saw it online, but I can’t justify the $25 shipping fee on a $4 item!

I get my stove pellets at a “lumber store” which is also a large hardware store.  Yes they are used for litter.

Maybe they can order it for you?  Some places have a free “ship to store” thing.

I have a rebate coming as a store credit at Menards and I plan to pick up a couple more bags with it before spring. I’ll stash them in my basement storage unit (hauling that first 40lb bag up 3 flights by myself really sucked) and I have a leftover holiday popcorn tin I have repurposed to hold a month or so worth of litter at a time.

I have a question that I just thought of.
My wood stove pellets smell woody, is this bad like pine and ceder smells? Could my wood stove pellets be different and have bad phenols like pine or ceder?
Also my wood stove pellets turn to a coarse sawdust when they get wet. Would this be irritating to a bunny’s respiratory system?

it’s okay if they smell “woody” or faintly of pine.  You just need to mkae sure that there aren’t any accelerants like lighter fluid in there.  (It would say on the bag)

Thanks, Nope no accelerants, 100% wood. I even tasted them to be sure, I am dedicated to my bunny.
