So Im trying to figure out what is the best cage for my new bunny.  Im reading wire cages are bad for their feet.  But if you get the solid bottom where does the urine and poop go?  Just on the ground so the bunny can walk all through it?  Then they say if you get a wire one put a rug over it.  Again the bunny is just going to pee all over the rug.  I am going to box train her but im sure the first few weeks of months she wont know what the box is and pee and poop in the cage.  What do you use for a cage?

If you get a solid one, you would need a litter box and rabbits safe litter.

Have you looked into dog exercise pens? Commercial rabbit housing isn’t very realstic for house rabbits

I have used a dog kennel, and an x-pen for housing.

As for litter training, you will find out that your bunny will go into a certain area to do her business. I put the litter box in that corner and threw in stray poos so to her it says “You do your business here.” Of course there wil lbe accidents The key is patience.

I have a Xtra large superpet rabbit cage always open into a xpen. (It’s in the corner of a room, so he can’t jump up and out). He was litter trained when I brought him home(he was about 6 weeks), easiest way to do that is to keep hay inside the litter box, then they eat and poop I wouldn’t mess with rugs, and most blankets I put in his cage get peed or pooped on, but not in the xpen.

Old, ratty, tatty TOWELS! We have several, and I imagine you probably do too! The bunnies will cuddle in them, dig on them, rip them, and just generally have a terrific time with them. And if they have an accident or ten – which they will – you just toss ’em in the wash on hot water!

My opinion is to have a sold floor and absolutely litter box train him. I have done this with 2 of my rabbits and wouldn’t do it any other way. I have also had my rabbits on wire floors and would never do that again. that was more of a mess.
