Ann Marie’s Top Tip

Did you know that most makeup brushes are made from animals tortured on fur farms? It’s gross but true: Makeup brushes are commonly made from squirrel, mink, sable, horse (sometimes called pony or camel), or goat hair. Luckily, lots of companies out there specialize in synthetic brushes made with taklon bristles. Synthetic brushes are more hygienic and much softer than those made from fur, which allows more makeup to cling to the brush to provide a smoother application. One of our favorite companies is Eco Tools. Available at Walgreens, Eco Tools’ cruelty-free brushes feature sustainable-bamboo handles and other natural and recyclable materials to keep you and the Earth looking beautiful. They’re good for animals, good for the Earth, and good for your complexion, so what are you waiting for?
Guaranteed to Be Cruelty-Free
We’re happy to welcome the latest crop of companies that have pledged that neither they nor their suppliers test their products, formulations, or ingredients on animals:
If your favorite company isn’t on our list of cruelty-free companies, send the company a polite e-mail encouraging it to take the necessary steps to join the Caring Consumer Project.
Look for the PETA Logo
Fed up with scrutinizing labels to decipher which companies are cruelty-free? Have no fear—just look for the bunny ears! Be sure to keep an eye out for the cruelty-free logo, which will soon be appearing or is already in use on the product labels and Web sites of the following companies:
In case you missed this announcement last month-be sure to check out our new, easy-to-search Caring Consumer database! When you buy items from the cruelty-free companies in this database, you help save animals. What a sweet deal! So to make it easy, we’ve added features that let you search by company name or product type. Looking for cruelty-free toothpaste? Just use the drop down menu to select “toothpaste,” and voilà-a complete list of brands appears. You’ll be flashing your pearly whites when you think about the animals you’re helping.
Thank you for being a caring consumer!
Kind Regards,
