› FORUM › DIET & CARE › Willie going to vets tonight…..
Well the infamous time has come. Willie gets dropped off tonight at the vets for his neuter first thing in the am. I get to pick him up tomorrow after 5pm. He is at work with me right now in a storage area in his roomy travel crate. sigh. I am trying to be brave, but I just know I will lose it when I leave him tonight! I will post tomorrow and let everyone know how it goes. Since we lost our last bun this way, I am so apprehensive, however, I know that things will go ok. I am so glad I am not going back to the other vet! So……Here is to rectifying the past. I have to make sure I also take all the areas out of his pen tonight that can cause him pain tomorrown night, like his loft to sleep in is up higher, etc. I will be busy…and a bit sad….until tomorrow night. ![]()
Good luck, Willie!
(((((((good surgery vibes))))))))
He’ll do fine, don’t worry too much. Get his fav foods all ready for him, so you can have a good homecoming for the little man. ![]()
(((((((((((((((((((good healing and surgery vibes for Willie)))))))))))))))))))
It’s hard to rectify a bad experience, but I am sure that a new vet and a different little guy will have him be one of the majority of bunnies that come through beautifully. and think how relieved you will be – today!
{{{{{{{fast recovery, Willie}}}}}}
thank you for all the vibes! I am still waiting for that call to say he came through fine. Ugh! however, I was very proud of myself. I cried a bit in the waiting room (descretely) and I left feeling good and didn’t cry. Just worried. but that is better than I thought I was going to be! I am picking up OUR fav…chinese tonight before I get him and he is getting all his fav foods too. So, will be celebrating bigtime once I get him back. I am not sure I EVER want to go through this again. LOL> I think from now on I will simply adopt one who is in need of a home and being fostered. (but there are very few areas anywhere near me)
If I don’t reply tonight…only because we are super busy making sure willie is good! BUT I will DEF. let everyone know!
Ok,, I have NEVER felt so stupid in all my life………..
Willie………………….he is okay……………….however, he is a SHE!!!!!!

I will have the update on HER surgery in about an hour…..
Please tell me there is some poor bunny whipped mama out there that has been in these shoes!!!! OMG! I will never live this one down. Ok , so the last point of topic….What for a name NOW!?/ Something that rhymes with Willie…….would be easier on him///oopss….I meant HER! geesh! and he has all blue things. I am DYING here. If my job wasn’t so serious I would be literally rolling on the floor laughing my patootie off!
Uh oh LOL :~) How about Ms. Willie.
We have another forum member whose female is named Buster – apparently he was a she as well.
Hahaha, Well, Karla turned out to be a Karl as well. For a while my BF and I thought about not telling anyone and just continue with the name Karla
You know, Karla was humping ”her” stuffed toy constantly leaving it wet…my mum repeatedly while laughing told me that it was no girl. I refused. Then one day I decided to do a “feel and prove it”-test…and I did feel something that should not be there, but decided that it was normal for a girl. It wasn’t until he vet told me and showed me two huge testicles that I had no other choice than to accept it
But it came as such a huge surprise although all signs were there.
We won’t tell anyone if you decide he is still a boy LOL. I hope the surgery will go well. But don’t worry, (s)he will be absolutely fine. The risk is so small and this is a completely different vet.
how about naming HER Millie, or Tilly, or lilly
GREAT NEWS!!!!!
And YES so many many bunny mamma’s have had that happen! And often times findout their girl is actually a boy. MUCH better to find out that way rather then to find out because you find oopsybabies
It definitely happens
Don’t feel stupid-they are one of the hardest companion animals to sex and even vets have a hard time sometimes
What about Milly/Millie?
or Lily or Tilly?

Welcome to the club! hehe
Warri’s been both spayed AND neutered.
Well, who EVER she is……she hasn’t been eating too well. However, she is eating the babyfood. Carrots and pears. So I guess that is a start. She ate some lettuce, not a whole lot though. How much should she be eating? Seems like females take a bit longer from everything I seem to be reading in the forums. She is alert (has been since I picked her up) and doesn’t seem to hate me right now so I guess we are ahead of the game?
Maybe once she realizes what is going on I may get the thump! lol.
I still have her in the crate (it is a crate 2-3 times her size.
The vet recommended leaving her in there with NO litter as he said that he preferred her not laying in the litter (wood pellets) until her incision healed a bit first. I guess that makes sense. So, I appreciate all the vibes and words of kindness. This was a struggling process for us and we are so fortunate to have found this vet! The whole procedure including the first appt. yesterday was $145.00. I feel that to be very reasonable and the staff was awesome.
THERE IS A GOD!
Ok, now I will just feel better when she is eating more solids and back to herself. well, actually, can that happen since before she was a he!???? lmao
tee hee… ummm, how about Billie? As in Billie Jean. I hope she continues to do well!
It sounds like everything went really well despite the surprise.
She won’t want to eat much at all today, and a little something or drinking is a good sign, so don’t worry.
I think Willy is perfectly fine if you like it. It’s short for Willamina, which was a very popular name in 19th century England, I think. Mina was one nickname for it (anybody here read Dracula? Mina was a main female character.) but Willa, or Willy, is allowed.
(And not to hijack your post, but don’t bother to read Dracula. What a long boring snooze of a book. Ugh. The movies, even the bad ones, are all better.)
Oh My Goodness! Big (((hugs))) Bren. What you have been through leading up to this and then he turns out to be a she?! Glad you’re laughing though. You know, maybe this is why you had to go through finding the right vet? Well, thank goodness it’s done. Healing {{{vibes}}} for your girl.
It’s pretty normal she won’t want to eat until the next day.
As for names…why doesn’t she remain as Willie?
Maybe short for Wilhelmina? Or she could be Willa, Willow, “Willow B Damned” ![]()
ok, well after much deliberation, the new name is………..
Nili. Kind of like Nellie, but a little different. now that I type it I realize my eyes are not what they used to be…N I L I.. there, can see it. LOL..look like it all ran in together. I tell you though, I loved the willow B damned!!! ![]()
I tried to talk my kids into just letting me call her BUN JOVI!!!!! and decorating her cage with Jon Bon Jovi. I thought it was hilarious and a GREAT idea, them…not so much! Needless to say, I lost. But….If i ever get a boy rabbit…that is going to be the name.
I think $145 is very reasonable for a sex change operation and spay. LOL- sorry could not resist!
Mis-sexnig of bunnies happens probably just as much as getting it right! The person I got Griffin from had another breeder double check just to try to make 110% sure she was correct and they marked the males with a green marker dot inside their left ear.
Yes, I thought it was reasonable too! that is nice they did the dot thing…lol. I should recommend this to the breeder, however, he checked not once, but twice! lol. Well, I have to say I am bad at it and looking at all the pics on the internet, I can see why it is easy to mistake them. However, geesh, you would think there has to be a way!!!! At what age do you think that any knowledgeable rabbit person should definately be able to tell? Since I know nobody with rabbits, it is hard for me to compare. (i am a hands on visual person) lol.
Well, Willie…AKA NILI is doing well and honestly, I am having a hard time keeping her calm. So, I guess that is a good sign. She wouldn’t eat any hay until this morning. so…finally! (2 days post surgery) but she loved her veggies, etc. I am suprised she is not eating pellets yet. Some of her poos are unusal still, but also seems normal. Her stitches seem to look ok and she doesn’t ever display to me in any way that they are bugging her. They are the disolving kind. She still wont let me pick her up yet and I am not worried about that. She would rather stay in her pen area which is good, however, she stretches up onto the pen to say high and I kind of want her to not do that, but at the same time, I would think she would stop immediately if this caused discomfort!? I have taken out all the levels in her crate so it is one level so she isn’t tempted to jump onto anything.
My hubby doesn’t know it yet…lol…but I ordered a few sets of the NIC cubes from Walmart.com and a new toy as well. Ummm….he will know when it comes![]()

however, she stretches up onto the pen to say high and I kind of want her to not do that, but at the same time, I would think she would stop immediately if this caused discomfort!?
She’s doing you a favour. When she does this, you can check her incision without having to pick her up
. She’s sounds like she’s recovering very nicely!
funny you should say that , Jerseygirl…that is exactly what I have been taking advantage of ![]()
Yeah for continued recovery!
