I  woke up at 2:50 am to Jackson in the new rabbit’s pen (still don’t have a name). I’m not sure how long they were in there together for. When I heard noises I thought it was just the new bunny doing zoomies. I was mistaken. I used my phone light to quickly look in and there were two of them. Luckily there seem to have been no big fights, but the new bunny sure pulled out a lot of Jackson’s hair and bit his nose because he has a little scratch on it. Jackson also had pulled out some of the new rabbit’s hair. I’m assuming there was a lot of chasing/humping from the sounds I was hearing. Also, Jackson seems to have sprayed the new rabbit.

I am very confused as to how Jackson got into the pen and I am going to move their pens farther apart now. Jackson has never gotten out of his current pen before. Jackson has been thumping a lot since I toke him got him back into his pen.

They are both currently not neutered and will be on May 31st. They live in pens that are right next to each other. I had to put some space in between because the new bunny had been pulling Jackson’s hair through the bars.

I am wondering how this will affect their bonding process in the future. Are they still going to be able to be bonded? Did I make a bad choice on getting another rabbit? I feel like I am stressing them out and I do not want either rabbit to feel stressed throughout their day.

In addition to widening the gap, I’d block visual now. The stares have escalated to something more serious, so they need to forget about this scuffle and about each other until they are both neutered. These things happen. There’s a lot of time between now and their neuter, so as long as they stay separated and there isn’t anymore scuffles like that, the bonding process will go as it would have. It may take a really long time or a really short time— all dependent on the rabbits themselves.
