Im thinking of getting mars a friend next year since he is currently living alone. Mars is extremely affectionate towards me but ive heard of bunny owners bonding their rabbits and ending up fighting. Is there any way of knowing if he will get along with rabbits?

Sometimes you can do bunny speed dating at a bunny rescue to see if he doesn’t like a bun. But you need to do proper pre bonding to ensure a good bond and most of the time it works out great, but it does depend on their personalities but a male/female bond is the easiest, but both have to be fixed before.

Let us know if you have any questions about pre bonding and bonding

Most rabbits do appreciate having a friend of their own species. There is the odd bun that really does hate all other bunnies (Member Q8’s Chewie ) but generally, most bunnies will get on well with a bonded partner, PROVIDED that you go through the correct bonding process.

The reason some bonding ends in huge fights is normally due to the owners rushing. Bonded must be taken very slowly to have the greatest chance of success.
            I would recommend
            – Both rabbits must be neutered
            – Bring new rabbit home and let them settle for two weeks
            – move the two rabbits close to each other (but not touching) and swap them between cages every day for at least a month
            – Start with a very short introduction in a totally neutral space, and be ready to intervene
            – Gradually increase the time they spend together.
