        HI,

I have an appointment on the 26th to have my 10 month old rabbit nutered.  He spends alot of time marking my house with poop!  Does anyone know, will this stop or atleast slow down after he is nutered?  My husband is getting irritated when he steps on a sticky one!  🙂

He also humps alot when we are wearing lounge/sleep pants that are soft.  He is not as bad with other pants, and he dosent hump us when we are wearing shorts.  DOes anyone know what is up with that?

        Thanks for your help!

        KimBerly

Yes the marking with poop and pee does decrease. It isnt with most cases that it stops
all together, ive had pretty goodluck with my Floppy…he only uses his litterbox now.
Although whenever he gets a chance to hop on my bed and pee he still tries. Also the
humping thing, I never had that problem, Floppy was neutered when he was about 5
months old, but the humping thing is just a sign of sexual maturity. After being neutered
it takes about 4-6 weeks before the hormones die down.

after his neuter you may want to re-litter train him to help his habits too.  since he’ll likely be out of comission for a bit to recover (i’m not sure how long this takes?) it’d be a good opportunity to restrict him to a small area that has his litter & food & water to re-inforce where he’s supposed to poop.  after my buns surgery i had to do this anyways so she wasn’t tempted to be jumping around too soon.  good luck!

welcome here Kimberly!  i can imagine your husband is about as annoyed as mine would be… lol.  is you bun littertrained now, or was he after you got him?  what kind of set-up does he have?  do you have a litterbox, or does he use his whole cage as litter?  you will probably have to reacquaint him with littertraining afterwards, there are some good tips for doing that on this site.  one of the best is the "hay-in-box" tip.  you may want to start this right after the surgery to reinforce the behavior.

Great question KimBerly! My two little ones are set to go in hopefully some time in January.  I’ve got the same problem with finding random pooplets around the house so I’d love an update afterwards to see if the surgery changed this with your bun

                goodluck!

Random? *blink blink* hehe Random poos would be nice! We find mountains! I think sometimes my girlies are better if I let them out one at a time, then there are less poos all over! Oh well! That’s why I have three vaccums! Maybe after our spays things will get cleaner!!

                  Welcome Kim!

Thank you all for your comments!  It is helpful to know that things are goign to be difficult after he gets nutered!

Right now he is in a large dog kennel that has his litter box, food and water.( along with all his toys!)  He gets to rome the main living area of our appartment when I am home, but is always locked up when we are not around.  He also has a litter box outside of his cage, and he uses them very well.  I have not found any pee accidents on my carpit since he we brought him home at 8 weeks.  He dose however poop alot next to, and around and in his litter boxes!  He spends alot of time in his litter box that is not in his cage, but when he gets out, he poops again!  I dont get that one, but they are easy to clean up!  🙂  when we first got him, i spent alot of time moving his box to where he was goign the most, and i got the area, he just dosent do it only in the one spot.  the main area that he poops is a 4X4 area around his litter box in my living room.

If you know why he dose this, I would appreciate that!

Thank you all so much for your help!

welcome to BinkyBunny KimBerly! I’m really glad to hear you have an appointment to get your bunny neutered, since it sounds like it’s time.

You got some great advice, yes the territorial pooping is likely to decrease after he’s been neutered. I’d agree with babybunsmum and Beka that after his neuter would be a good time to work with him to improve his box habits. One way I’ve found successful is to limit the space the bunny can roam and add more boxes. Once he’s mastered using the box in that area, you slowly expand his territory as he continues to use the box.

Just an update, Gidgit had his surgery yesterday, and he is doing well. He isnt moving much, but seems to be doing well. He had a few to many treets last night ( mommy was trying to make sure he was eating, so I gave him too many veggies!) so he had some soft stool, but he is hopping around the living room today, but taking lots of breaks! I think he is mad at me, because every time i talk to him he turns himself around so he is looking away from me 🙂 he knows it was my idea to have them cut off! But ill keep everyone posted to see how the marking and humping goes! Thanks again for all your comments!

Well Gidgit is doing great! He has contained his pooping to the small area next to his litter box (we are still working on that) He has stopped pooping all around the house, and he kept his blanket inside his cage cleen for about 2 weeks with no poop or pee on it! but he is feeling great and back to his new normal self! Since he got fixed, He has been much calmer, and not as active, but still his sweet self! He did hurt himself again the other day, I think he kicked something when he was playing, because his back foot is a little tender, but he is still running and jumping on it, so i am guessing that he just brused it!

I would just like to say to everyone who is worried about getting bunny fixed, DON’T! Gidgit was back to himself after a few days of rest, and feeling great! I think he was jumping back up on the couches after the 3rd day!

Thank you again to all who helped me out with my question! I am going to reccomend this site to everyone that has any bunny questions!
                          thanks again

I am very happy to hear that things are improving with Gidgit’s litterbox habits, that’s great! I’m glad he’s calmer and still sweet.
