Hey you guys, sorry for the hiatus again!! ><; I'm really bad about these hiatuses...I promise I'll try to be more active! =x

Anyway, I’m posting this because I need someone who knows a lot about wild rabbit rescues. (Baby and adult)

The reason why I ask is because my English professor is a volunteer at a local wildlife rescue. He specializes in rescuing and rehabilitating squirrels, but he doesn’t know much about rabbits. He understands that they have a very fragile gut and that they have to obtain certain nutrients and bacteria from their mother, but that’s about the extent of his knowlege. Unfortunately, he says, almost all of the wild baby bunnies that come into the rescue where he volunteers do not make it.

Upon hearing that my next essay topic is going to be ‘On Being a Bunny Owner’ (lol!) and finding out how much I know scientifically about bunnies, he became very interested and asked for any information I could provide to help him and the rescue with their wild rabbit success rate. I told him that I myself didn’t know a whole lot about caring for wild rabbits or rehabilitating them either. But I did tell him that I have lots of bunny connections online and that I could probably get him some information and help there.

I understand that losing the babies isn’t an uncommon situation, but I DO know that there are a lot of sucess cases out there as well. I seem to recall that there is somone here who does/ has done/ knows someone who does wild rabbit rescues. I just can’t put my finger on who. =x

Any tips/ info/ contacts would be greatly appreciated!

It was a user named ‘squirly buns’ (who actually usually rescued squirrels too!) who rescued three baby ferral rabbits. I can’t remember any other users who had wild baby buns -my memory-ack!!

I wonder if you could suggest they use ‘benebac’ its a probiotic for young who didn’t get the time with mom; and you can buy it for different types of animals (cats/dogs/rabbits).

The other thing I would suggest, it’s very important for young weaned too early to have a surrogate to keep them warm, clean and look after them. Perhaps they have a motherly dog at the rescue who could look after baby buns?
