I’ll start by saying that I am the most PARANOID rabbit mother ever. God help us if I ever have children – I am sure I will give my self an ulcer with worry.

Lucy was spayed two weeks ago tomorrow. She recovered great, the normal couple days of moaping around and being a little dopey from the pain medicine, but she seemed back to normal with in a week.

The last couple days though, I have noticed some wierd movements. Like wierd stretching motions. She always did big full body stretches before her spay, so I know what those look like (so cute!) But now she is doing this wierd thing where she kind of stretches out her butt and presses her back half flat onto the ground? Almost like she is half laying down? She’s doing it pretty frequently too.

Her scar looks fine – and she hasn’t been licking it or anything – but I’m thinking maybe it is uncofortable or itchy or something?

She’s been normal in every other way – eating, pooping and peeing normal.

Anyone have any insight as to what she might be doing?

What kind of stitches did she have for the spay? The dissolving internal kind? Did she have to have any outer stitches removed or did the vet use glue? SOmetimes they can have a reaction to the material of the stitches. Also, there can be adhesions develop at the scar site but I doubt it’s anything like that. It’s only being 2 weeks. If you are really concerned, just book a post op follow up for her or even ring and mention your concerns to the vet.

What you describe sounds a bit like what I see when mine have minor discomfort. If they have a little gas they can do a belly press. Sometimes, they just do a weird stretch too for no apparent reason.

I had internal stitches and about 2 or 3 weeks after the op i would get an itch inside my stomach that I could not get to and I found that stretching would make it go away, what it is, is the internal stitch disolving and rubbing against something and the strech moves it. Maybe it’s that?

Sammy can stretch like that, so it sounds pretty normal. Have you been able to look at the site to see if it’s healed completely and is a normal color now? Is the fur growing back in? If it’s not in all the way, it could be itchy, too. I’d say if anything looks at all off visually, a post op visit wouldn’t hurt.

I went to the vet yesterday. Everything is fine!

Vet said that the incision site looks good and that she is recovering great. She agrees that it is just some slight discomfort/itchyness as the stitches disolve and also just regaining use of all the muscles in that area.

                Whew!
