wierd after-spay behavior?

Hi all,

The lovely Pringles was spayed back on Dec 18 and had an uneventful recovery, thank goodness. She been having the run of the house again and the destructiveness level has gone down a lot, still chews and tries to strip the sheetrock a bit, but not with the same intensitiy as before.

What she is doing strange is how she ‘plays’ with the cats now.  One will pass within a few feet of her. They make eye contact, both freeze for a few seconds and then it looks like the Keystone Cops. Since most of the floors are hardwood they both go into full run mode but  stay stationary until they slowly get traction and start making forward progress and then it’s off to the races.

They streak through the house, I don’t mean hopping, I mean flat out hauling a$$, sometimes with Pringles making a high pitch squeaking, which doesn’t sound like it did when she was squealing with fright a few times before.

When they try to make the corners, they don’t even slow down, they look like those cars that go sliding sideways, they’re running one way and sliding another, it’s hysterical. Sometimes they pile into a wall, but lately Pringles has been able to overtake the slower cat and just plows right into him and they tumble into a pile. There’s no fighting or biting, neither seems upset or mad, it’s just crazy to watch. After the pile up, they get up and groom themselves and everythings normal again.

Has anyone else had this happen? When I first heard Pringles making that screech I thought the cat was after her, but on the next lap past me I realized it was Pringles in pursuit and gaining fast….lol

That’s a riot!  I wish my bun would do that!  Edson is a big chicken.  I’m dying for the day the cat and Edson become friends. My cat does this though. She does laps, skidding all over, crashing into things… after she poops!  It is really funny because we all know when she poops!

that is so funny.  i’m imagining it the way you’re describing it and that sounds hilarious.  is the cat always the one being chased?    does the cat seem real distressed afterwards?  i wouldn’t really worry about it as long as there’s no fighting or anything.  some buns love chasing like that, and i think as long as your cats are game, it should be okay.  do you ever leave them alone unsupervised?  i would hate for the cat to get fed up one day when you’re not around tho and scratch or bite the bun.  have you tried breaking it up half way thru?  do they get angry with you?

yes, Pringles is always the chaser but the cats don’t seem upset, if they don’t want to play they jump up high somewhere. But last night the fat cat did jump on my computer desk and Pringles spent a few minutes circling and periscoping to see where she had gone.

I’ve broken them up a few times and they don’t mind. My house is an older one without a hallway, it has one of those ‘walk around’ layouts where you can make a circle walking through the rooms.

Pringles is only out when I’m home and the cats tend to hang around me (just in case i open a can) so it doesn’t seem to be a problem, I had just never thought I would see the prey chasing the predator.

The siamese cat has an interesting way of ‘putting the others in their place’. When thoroughly annoyed he will simply put his paw on top of the other’s head and keep them at that distance….lol. The others will slap or hiss if provoked, but usually just run away and look po’d.

Hahahaha thats so funny! Pringles sounds like quite the character

Just because there is some playing going on, you might want to make it a point to periodically check Pringles all over in case she got a scratch anywhere in the midst of playing, just in case.

That’s a good idea, I almost have to put gloves on to check her scar now that she’s feisty again.

She kamikazied the taller cat last night but instead of piling up, she slid under him and out the other side as the cat went straight up just high enough to clear her.

lol!  that would be so funny to see   pringles sure sounds like one frisky bunny bun!  my bun won’t chase the dog but she does jump all over him.  a behaviour i’ve had to restrict because she started peeing on him too.   the dog basically only pays attention to her butt (ew… looking for poops… ew) and to when she tries to pass him by in the hall.  suddenly then its ‘game on’ and he tries to prevent her passage.  i, of course, monitor this hallway business to be sure he’s not hurting the baby and i’ve noticed that she’s the instigator in the scramble.  she’ll pick the tightest side to try to squeeze through.  little devil

she may still calm down a bit too.  her surgery was on Dec. 18th, so it hasn’t even been a full month.  her hormones may still be elevated some.  i am glad that she’s doing well after the surgery, sounds like she’s definitely having fun.

i started a thread about this & the consenus was just that… she’s trying to dominate him & claim him.  good thing he’s gentle with her.  he doesn’t notice the pee at all or seem to care, but i’d rather not have to clean it up all the time.  i try to keep the rabbit pee smell to a minimum here   its funny because he used to get in trouble all the time but now it’s the rabbit thats getting the stern voiced commands!  he’s helping me train her.. ever time i say ‘baby no!’ he gets up & looks down at her to stop the horse-play.  then she runs away flicking her feet at him.

My cat, Wolfgang, totally runs looney after a good poop or even an ok poop!  I always thought it was odd, so I’m glad that someone else has experienced such.  Since Jessica got spayed, she’s completely calmed down.  She has also gotten calmer w/ the cats.  Her favorite places are running through the hall and up/down the stairs.  She still does that, but she doesn’t let the cats intimidate her or stop her.  If they get in the way, she just keeps going.  The only one she runs from is me!

So what Pringles do when she gets close? Does she ever try and bite your cats, or do they always get away. When she is running full blast towards them, what is the position of her ears and tail? Are her ears back and tail up, or ???

It’s funny to watch, I can’t really tell about the ears because Pringles is a lop, but when she spies a cat, she does the slow motion stalk until the cat takes off. She approaches the cats and now that they’ve gotten wise to her, she actually has to go looking for one to play with and catch him on the floor.

It is very noticible that her lop ears are sticking out horizontally when she’s chasing them, looks like a helicopter. I’m thinking it’s a game for her, because when she does actually catch one, there’s no squealing, biting or hairpulling like when the bunnies fight together, she just bowls them over.

I know, no one believes me until they see it. I may try and borrow a camcorder this weekend.

I caught my son using catbait  to lure Pringles out of his bedroom…..he  carries one into the room, gets Pringles attention and the race is on. The cats must like to play, because they’ve learned all they have to do to avoid it is to jump up on something, but sometimes they like to walk by with that condescending tail swagger and look over their shoulder at her until Pringles takes the bait.
