Ever have one of those times where your bunny completely outsmarts you? Well, maybe thats not the best way to put it… just read on…
Last night I was changing Layla’s bedding, and in the meantime I had the top part of her cage on my bed along with a box for her to use to go to the bathroom if she needed, and for playing if she didn’t need it. I haven’t quite bunny proofed her room yet – I want to slowly acclimate her to a growing amount of space until she can have free run of the room. This way she can get used to being out of the cage longer and longer without accidents.
Well, she hopped in to the box and I didn’t really take note of it. Well, I got the newspapers set in the bottom of her cage, I cleaned her litter box and refilled it with bedding. I picked her up and noticed a few little ‘presents’ in the box. I started praising her for using the box with no prompting and keeping any mess off of my bed. I notice her tail end is wet, and I’m even more thankful that she used the box.
Well, I set her cage on the table and pick up the box, and suddenly it dawns on me – the bottom of the box is open. And she went pee apparently straight through the hole. D’oh!
I had about a half foot wide wet spot on my mattress, and what had to have been one of the stupidest looks I’ve ever made on my face. All I could do was laugh – she did everything right, but I still ended up with a mess. Oh well!
