        Hi,

So I’m a bit worried about my rabbit… He looks very meek and his behaviour is very unlike him.

His name is Ozi and he’s usually a curious, mischievous, and fearless little boy. Today he spent the whole day hopping around in my room, making a mess, and playing with my other rabbit – his usual rabbit behaviour. It’s nighttime where I am, so, 15 minutes ago, I put my rabbits back in their enclosure, and I just noticed that he’s been staring at me meekly, with his ears down. I don’t know if it’s because he’s sick, scared of me (which I doubt because he never usually is), depressed, or just really tired.  I’d like to point out that today, he didn’t eat much hay either, when I noticed this I plopped him in the hay/litter tray, but he only ate a couple of strands…

My other rabbit (Shakira) is very content, she just rolled on her side to sleep, and he is laying on top of her.

Is this behaviour normal? Or should I contact the vet immediately?

P.s: This is a picture of my little cutie-pie (I was taking him to the vet)

When was the last time he ate and pooped normally? Those sound like symptoms of pain, since it is out of the norm for him. He could be having some gas or other tummy upset. Will he eat greens or a treat?

If you have it, my go-to when a bunny is off is to give simethicone (baby gas drops), a tummy rub, and either a bit of fluids or some watered down critical care. Often if it’s just gas that is enough to get them back on track. A tummy rub and a nice pile of wet veg will also work if he isn’t turning down all food.

Firstly, thank you for your detailed response, it was very helpful!

I gave him a tummy rub and some treats and he fell asleep. This morning when I let him out he seemed normal, he was doing binkies around the room, playing with his friend, and eating his leafy greens. I think he’s okay, but I will still bring him to the vet for a general check-up.

Thank you so much for your help!

Sounds good, I bet it was a bit of gas. Glad he perked back up. 🙂
