Sounds like a dumb question I know, but I was unable to find proper litter at first and wanted Scottie to get use to having it so I thought it would be ok if I temporarily just lined the litter box with a paper towel and filled it with hay (I was told you are suppose to put a little hay in as well as the litter).

So I just put in extra hay and thought I would try that while I continued to look for litter that is rabbit friendly. Well its been a few weeks now and I still am not sure what litter to use but am now wondering why I have to use any at all? She is using the litter box fine with just the hay and it hasn’t been difficult to clean, I just dump it out completely every other day and start fresh.

Do have to use litter? Why? What kind and where can I find some..

Just hay with a paper towel is fine, its what the shelter here does. Very economical

My shelter uses newspaper with hay, so similar. The problem I find with it is that it doesn’t absorb smell much. The shelter cleans them every day, so that’s not much of a problem, but I’m too lazy to clean my own buns’ boxes every day, so use litter 😉 It’s a very economical option though.

I use news paper or papertowels or pelleted paper or nothing… I haven’t found a perfect litter yet.
