Why can’t we all just get along?

We are trying to re-bond our 3 sibling bunnies, it has been a month since they were spay/neutered, so far its not going so well, lots of spin-fighting, but I think our major mistake was not doing it on “neutral ground”!  So this weekend we are going to try again in the kitchen where none of them have been!   The two boys share a cage divided in half so they can see,sniff, groom faces, and steal eachother’s towels.  The little girl has a separate cage that sits close to theirs.

Every evening when we “bink” them we take them downstairs to where we have divided up the entire area into 3 “corrals” the buns can get nose to nose with eachother and bink and run side by side.  We were hoping this was going to ease the bonding process but as soon as we put two of them together the spinning nipping begins.  Hopefully this weekend will be different with the neutral ground experiment!!   We know it takes time and we are in no hurry …….. we love our bunnies and want them to be the loving pile of fluff that they were before the hormones too over! lol!

Here are some pix of them getting to “nose” eachother in the corral situation, and the last pic is of Bammer in the “pooper” doing what alot of guys do…… reading the paper!!!  This was not staged!  Bammer loves to rip up the newspaper from his cage floor and redistribute it.  LOL!

they’re so adoreable!  glad you’re so willing to hang in there with the bonding… from what i’ve read about it, i’m sure having more than 2 to bond will make it quite interesting.  good to know you can always distract bammer with the sports section tho

You’ve got them up against a mirror, right?
Does anyone know if they see themselves in mirrors? Do they know it’s not more bunnies?
I’m wondering if they might be confused and think there are 4 bunnies in the room. Maybe their behavior changes if the two don’t know they’re alone together. It’s a goofy notion, but I was just wondering.

interesting point.  in an incredibly and indefensibly lazy-a$$ moment while couching, i put a hand mirror on the floor to try to see what baby bun was doing on the other side of my big ottoman.  she hopped around the corner & saw herself & immediately froze.  then tentatively hopped towards her reflection & sniffed at the mirror.  i’m certain she thought it was another bunny!  i’m no expert by any means, but i’d say it’s a possibility the mirrors could throw a new aspect into the mix if that’s where the fist bonding attempt was.  it’ll be interesting to hear about how it goes in neutral territory!

Wow, look at those postures! Can anyone tell me if those piccies were taken in mid hop or if bunnies arch their backs like that to show dominance?

LOVE the one of the black bun in the loo! ^^ And as long as he doesn’t sound like the entire wind section of the New York Philharmonic, (like some guys I know do) I’d say that was a cute habit he’s gotten into!

What cute bunnies! Good luck with the bonding, I’m about to make the attempt myself and I’m (kind of) not looking forward to it!

I’d recommend trying some stress bonding – like car rides for sure. It often can help, since as they get freaked out they turn to each other for support.

Mimzmum – that top pic is a classic defensive pose for sure and I don’t think it was taken mid leap or hop.

Yup totally seen my bunnies do those poses while we’ve been loosely trying to bond….
