The search function isn’t working for me for some reason.

I noticed earlier today that Pacey has white urine. What is the cause of this? Is there something I can do about it? I vaguely remember reading something about calcium levels or something. He is on oxbow Bunny Basics 15/23 he is 8 weeks old yesterday and gets alfalfa hay. He has been eating drinking and playing normally. Doesn’t seem to be in any pain that I can tell.

Well, it’s normal to see a some white urine as they are excreting some calcium so you shouldn’t worry about that.

Is he drinking plenty of water? I’ve never heard of a rabbit this young getting bladder sludge but I suppose it could be possible – bladder sludge however is extremely thick and you will notice your rabbit having problems urinating and getting urine scald. My rabbits who have bladder sludge are older rabbits and I have to express their bladder to help them remove the sludge and it’s dark brown and very thick, not white.

You may want to introduce some timothy hay into his diet too. Alfalfa is high in calcium and perhaps since you are doing the alfalfa pellets you can do the unlimited timothy hay and maybe just a small handful of fresh alfalfa hay.

Yes it’s a sign of calcium but doesn’t sound like sludge (thankfully!). Replacing some alfalfa with timothy should help

Ok thanks I can do the timothy hay I just got a 90lb bale since my neighbors horse likes it and I feed it to him when he comes to the edge of the fence to say hello.  If he starts showing signs of trouble I will take him to the vet.

Isn’t that nice of you to buy hay to make friends with the neighbors horse!!
