        Hello…

I have a 4 month old mini rex buck who has some white specks around his genitials. During one of our daily inspections last week we noticed he had a sore on his rear quarters. We cleaned and treated it and it has healed, however he still has these white specks in his fur around that area.

Any ideas on what this may be?

        Thanks.

i have no clue what that might be. is it skin showing thru the fur? is he an only rabbit? is he biting at himself, maybe they are small bite marks? you should probably call your vet to have him looked at.

The specks are definitely up in his fur. It looks like dandruff flakes to be quite honest.

He seems to be happy, as a matter of fact, my wife has him out right now playing with him.

I cleaned him up and if it shows up tomorrow, I’m definitely taking him to the vet.

so, wait…are these sores? or are they flakes? If they are sores that are on and around the genitals, they could actually be bunny syphillis, (no kidding). But don’t worry, it’s not the same as human syphillis – can’t be transferred from bunny to human or vice versa. Anyway, IF that’s what it is, it’s easily treatable. Usually three injections (one injection a week)

EDIT:  Okay, so once I read your post over again, was there once was a sore, healed, but now still flakes.   Soooo, if that is the case, do you see any dark spots too?  Like flea depris?

No, no debris, and we keep the rabbits in an indoor cage area.  were very careful with fleas and check our dogs and rabbits weekly in the warmer months.

I’m pretty sure that this was aftermath from that sore, because the white stuff isn’t present this morning

Interesting, I was thinking it may have been mites or some kind of fungal (like yeast) infection. If it continues definately take him in to be examined and/or have it cultured/tested.
