› Forum › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Where do you get those cage cubes from??
I think they’re a fantastic idea but you just can’t hopping get them here in England >excuse my french!<. Can you mail order them? Or does anyone know of a website that does them???
Hello!! This is the BEST forum by far, but ask this question on ‘rabbits united’ forum as it is british and they will be able to help you! I *know* they are available in the UK, but I tried searching and couldnt’ find them. But for sure they *are* available there! I would try on ebay and also on the uk walmart equivelent site, I can’t remember the name of that one either!! Sorry I’m not much more help!
a question to the community leaders…
would it be a good idea to find the online retailers where the NIC cubes are available and post their links in the links section? maybe find the ones in the UK, Canada & the US… that seems where most of the members are from (right?) also put what the brand name is (since it seems to vary from place to place). this is a question that comes up a lot (understandably…) i wonder if that would help people out…?
Great idea Beka27! That would be soooo great! I can’t find them in my Canadian town and I want some soooo bad.
Hi Beka! There are a few sites out there that have done the legwork already and I’ll ask Binky Bunny if she can add that! A web site to check out:
I do have a section of links where to get cube supplies https://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid=71, but it’s in the cool habitats section under the pics. Do you all feel it would also be beneficial to have at least a link to that in the overall "links" section?
Also, if you find places based in places internationally, let me know, then I’ll add tthose links to my links. Some of the U.S. places do ship internationally, but this is a rather heavy item, and I suspect the shipping would be expensive. So it would be better if they were at least in the same country that it is going to be sent to.
I think that would be a good idea.
Neat idea cubes are you limited to how high or wide you could build one?
I just responded to someone’s post about this last week and included sites in England – hold on let me find the thread
actually I just did a bit more research from a guinea pig site:
Robert May and B&Q both sell them.
With BQ they don’t always have them in stock, but they can order them – the Product No: 5015772198409 The make is Slemka.
here is a site selling them online and they also appear to have brick and mortar stores too:
http://www.screwfix.com/prods/43900/Ironmongery/Shelving-Systems/Storage-Cubes/4-Cube-Display
Hurrah! These ones seem quite good!! Around the price of a cage but much more fun! Not bad
Bunnylugs – those are pretty much the same kind available in the US. Most people don’t use the round connectors and use zip ties instead. They’re much stronger and easier to work with.
Zipties = awesome
So glad you guys had that on here, I would have lost my mind months ago!! Those connectors do not work!!!
I also found on a site that the cable ties (zip ties) hold the neat idea cubes together a lot better if the ties are diagonal.
See picture below.

OK my British chums!! I just bought some from Wilkes the hardware store. Bit like B&Q. They look like the ones that screwfix sell, only you get 17 panels to a pack. It was £25 I know, don’t ask! I bought two. However, they look very comfortable for the babes. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for more options (not many!!)
Okay, so I’ve added the two UK supplier links to the our cool habitats section and I added a link in our links section.
BunnyLugs. Is Wilkes pretty much all over the UK? If so, I’ll add them as a resource too.
Yeah it’s a big store, ah, it’s Wickes, not Wilkes! Sorry dyslexic! http://www.Wickes.co.uk Haven’t checked the website but they have them in store.
Great thanks. I’ll check the site, and if I see them there I’ll post the link, otherwise, I’ll just post the name.
I just learned a super fancy technique for tying the zip ties when I was at the North TX Rabbit sanctuary. We made some boarding cages that were actually 2 cages stacked together. They are 5 cubes high, 2 cubes wide, and 3 cubes long. I’ll take a photo of how to do the zip ties, its a fantastic way that makes the tie much stronger.
oooh… waiting with baited breath! my holiday project is to re-build an NIC condo for baby
how fun! I just loooove re-doing cages – I feel like an architect – I’m trying to find some pics online of what I am talking about but will prob. just have to take some photos of my own when I get home.
it is fun! i design houses for a living (architectural designer… not architect) so i’ve been sketching out & revising plans as i see different examples in pics online i’d MUCH rather be designing bunny condos than client’s houses right now… lol… i always get distracted this time of year!
Hopefully when you talk to a client you don’t refer to their kids hopping around and making things chew-safe and bunny proof. That would be funny!
I’m going to have around 54 panels altogether now! Very exciting!! I’m going to buy spokey dokey bicyle beads and clip them to some of the bars to make abacus toys for them to play with! Might as well make it a feature!!
Ooo! That’s a GREAT idea! but you might want to be sure your bunnies don’t decide to nibble them off and possibly ingest them.
I put some pics of my zip-tie technique on my website: http://web.mac.com/elizabethdougherty/iWeb
I have trouble posting pics so I thought I’d just put them there. On the top there is a section labeled "Bunny Cage!" – just click on that and you will see the zip-tie pictures. Feel free to browse the other pics, just some Xmas pics (mostly of the bunnies) and my new apartment
great pics! i would’ve never thought of doing the zipties like that… it seems they’d be a lot stronger! (your place is really cute btw…)
aww, i love the bunny holiday pics! your new apartment is really sweet.
great zip tie technique! thanks for sharing that. also… cute apartment. clearly you have lots-o-experience with the zip ties!
These are my plans for a new cage using el cuberos! Tee Hee, I’m no architect!
I call it The Condoliza

Too cool! Are you goiing to put a hay feeder on the side too?
Now has everyone used Neat Idea Cubes or have some used otrher brands? I went to Walmart and they didn’t have NIC but they had a different brand. I read that NIC is safe if buns chew on them but haven’t read about others.Any thoughts? I’ll have to check out Lowes, but I stil have time untill I need to build one.
it shouldn’t matter what the brand name is… but i think i remember someone saying the ones that are metal are a big no-no… but the colored ones (black, white, and i’ve even seen them in navy and pink) are safe. someone help me out… am i correct?
Hmm, it seems to me that it was discovered that the chrome coated ones are not OK. I think Pocketfaeries told us about that. The enamel coated ones are OK though. I’ll see if I can find that discussion.
Found it!

thanks Scarlet Rose! i knew i’d seen it somewhere!
You’re welcome and me too!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re welcome!
Why thank you for the apartment compliments The finished product of 3 days of bunny cage building, 3 trips to Home Depot, 3 boxes of NIC cubes, 3 weird looks from Home Depot employees, and 5 relocated bunnies is on my webpage: http://web.mac.com/elizabethdougherty/iWeb
The only injury (surprisingly) was one stab with the razor knife: moral of this injury – always cut zip ties AWAY from your body…
I use tin (aka. metal) snips to cut my zippy ties. No sharp knife-type blades for me just for that reason. I hope it’s O.K. Moobunnay.
Moobunnay I hope you’re alright my hubby works with those things and I shutter everytime he comes home and says he has a new “scratch” those things are deadly.
I’ll have to look at Home Depot then because I called Lowes and Target and they didn’t have any Walmart doesn’t have NIC but a different brand but only in Red and Blue and 1 package of Black and they’re on clearance :-/ Lowes said they had them but they were a “in and out fade type of thing”. With as popular as they are with the bunny guardians you;d think they’d have petstores or atleast rabbit sites that sell them if people aren[‘t buying them for themselves ya know.
Bed Bath & Beyond carries them as well, i believe. i can’t vouch for the brandname (or the price…) but they might have them.
I’m healing, I wish someone had gotten it on camera as I was very dramatic rolling on the ground and holding my hand and muttering LOLcat phrases like “I has really stabbed myself THIS time” until my boyfriend came over and insisted I show him the injury, which he says is not so bad but in retrospect could have merited a stitch or two. Anyways, it will probably leave a scar – and a great story of how I got it building a rabbit cage!
Ah MooBunnay funny and sad at the same time. I always use big scissors to cut the ends off of the cable ties, those knives are so sharp and so easy to slip with.
"I has a bleed!" "Da knife bitted me!" "teh blood is evryware!"
hahahaha so true & good captions btw
I do have some scissors, I was just super excited to be done with the cage and grabbed the first sharp item I saw – trust me, I haven’t gotten near that thing since!
Moobunnay – I just saw your christmas pictures… those are some spoiled bunnites!!!
Ok Office Depot doesn’t carry anything like the cubes as well. I’m goign to check out Bed Bath and Beyond this weekend hopefully I’ll have better luck.
i believe Bed Bath & Beyond has em. They’re silver $14.99 for a 4 cube set i think. My cousin got em there. takes some banging to get em together but its worth it! and cheaper than alot of the big playpens.
Walmart and Target have them. At target they are called Organize it Cubes, I’m not sure what they are called at Walmart. You can aslo get them online at CavyCages. Check out https://binkybunny.com/Default.aspx?tabid=71 and scroll down below the picture gallery for more details
like BinkyBunny mentioned… have you checked Target? i’ve never found them at wal-mart, or any of the office stores. Target has them right now, at least in my area, on sale for 12.99 a box. i had to buy *another* box last night because i’m doing *something*. hehe. i could just get stock in cubes. make a fortune… then buy more cubes with my fortune. lol…
I called Target but I guess I’ll have to go in. I just went to bed bath and beyond and notta. I ‘m thinking since they were gearded towards teen/college dorm types that they might be back during the “back to school” time. Walmart had some but only red and blues and 1 pack of black 😛 I guess I’m being picky not wanting red or blue. I’d just be nice to go easier with the house and decor,. I’ll have to check out the cavycages
BinkyBunny- I’ve looked sooo many times at that link I can’t believe I never noticed the suppliers links!! Thanks, I’m going to check out if I have a Costco close by, I know we have a Sams and BJ’s but I don’t recall seeing a Costco but I have heard of it.
OK so I just looked and the closet Costco is a hour away 🙁 I’ll check out Sam’s next time I go.
you might have to actually go in and look yourself. i’ve asked employees and they say they don’t carry them and then i find them on the shelf about three aisles down. at my Target, there is a pretty large home decor section. the cubes are in the same aisle as the other wire organizers for closets and shoe racks and things, about an aisle away from the plastic, sterilite storage containers.
I went and picked them up from my Bed Bath & Beyond today. They were in the section with the plastic and wire shelving. $14.99 for 16 piece set in silver. You definitely need a mallet/hammer to put it together. You’ll wreck your hands if you try to push it together plus it’ll pop off. I had a little mallet from a tool set and it helped immensely. It doesn’t need to be huge just a small one. I got zip ties from Home Depot. They had releasable zip ties which I want to get for my temporary setups so I can reuse them. I used the extra shelf pieces to make baskets to hold stuff. so versatile!
WooHOOOOO! I found some!! They were at Target, the same store I called and was told they dont have anything like that 😛 Plus, yes a plus.. they were on sale!!! We actually have to make the condo sooner than planned due to our newest member liking to be Double O Bun! lol
oh good! i’m glad you found them!
those silly retail people… they don’t know what they’re talking about! (<——this is a joke… i work in retail… lol.)
Now that is some shopping mojo!!! WOOHOO score!
