I thought it would be interesting to hear about and see where some of our buns came from!  ((**Side Note:  This is not a topic to argue or debate WHERE or if it’s wrong where someone got their buns; I have buns from a breeder, a rescue, and a pet store.  No judging on anyone please!))

So to begin:  My Three Tans – (left to right) – Fleury, Tanger, and Sidney

My three Tans all came from a breeder in the middle of nowhere PA.  They were my first bunnies and my boyfriend and I decided we wanted a baby we could raise.  We wanted our rabbit to know nothing but kindness and love.  Needless to say, we ended up with the whole litter except for one that the breeder had decided from the beginning to keep…

Then comes my rescue bun, Simba.

Simba taught me just how great adopting is.  And how insanely important it is for the buns without homes also.  I found Simba at an all rabbit rescue that specializes in behaviorially challenged buns and buns with health problems.  SImba was sent to this particular rescue after he was “kicked out” of the local Humane Society.  By kicked out, I mean they were going to euthanize him.  He was deemed aggressive and too vicious to adopt out but thankfully this rescue stepped up and saved his life.  Which is how I found him.  Simba is the SWEETEST bunny I have ever met.  (I’m a little partial with just how cute he is also).  All he needed was a family to love him as this boy is nothing but love and kisses.  His second night home with us as he was binkying around the living room I burst into tears thinking buns like him were losing their lives all because they had no family to call their own… it broke my heart.  To put it short, Simba is the reason I volunteer so much of my time with buns today!

        And my last bun, Nora!

Nora is my own little first rescue bunny that my boyfriend and I saved from a horrible pet store.  The first picture is her the first night we brought her home.  She was covered in mats, was extremely malnourished, had an upper resp. infection, and had a constant head sway.  She was a mess.  And we just couldn’t leave her there… We originally entered her into foster through the same rescue that took Simba and planned on helping her find a forever home when she was spayed and her health was better.  But needless to say, this little girl grabbed our hearts and she was welcomed into her forever home on July 2nd of this year (my boyfriend and I’s anniversary!).

And as most of you know – they are all happily bonded!

Funny how Bella and Simba are so much alike! Bella came from a friend of ours who got her off of Craigslist, but couldn’t keep her anymore, because she, like Simba, was deemed agressive (not fixed and in small cage), but she is also one of the sweetest bunnies you’ll ever meet. Bella and Simba both love to give kisses, and they are both lion heads! Sorry for all that…I get excited over little things. Lol

Lionel was adopted as a friend for Bella from a rabbit rescue and they think he had been part of a hoarder siege But despite his past he is still such a love bug!

Piglet and Pepper were rescued from a backyard meat breeder and were put in my care..

This was their first day with me.

Then I discovered they weren’t both boys..

            That’s were Nermal come from…

Despite the fact that Piglet was desexed the minute I realised Pepper was pregnant and before the first litter arrived no one told me it took a month before they could be back together so this happened.

That’s Pipi at the front, she still stands like this when I come in to the room.

This is Piglet with his girls Pipi and Blossom. This pic won a spot in the Bunspace 2014 calender.

Then of course my foster fail Pascal who came from Rabbit Rescue here in Perth.

and Last but not least my foster bunny Starsky from WASAR…

Run out of space… One to go in another post.

and finally Starsky… That’s the photo I saw on the Council Pound website… I knew I had to get him out and WASAR sponsored me as his foster.

He is such a beautiful loving little bun, if he doesn’t get adopted soon I am not going to be able to part with him.

My little girl is a pet shop baby.  When I decided to get a bunny I initially looked into adopting but at the time there weren’t any available where I live.  I should have waited, as soon as the school year ended there were tons of little bunnies being put up for adoption here

But I adore my little ball of evil so I can’t really complain.

(I was trying to put that laundry away but she decided she needed to get her hair all over my clothes first….)

Oh my goodness Tan. Fleury, Tanger, and Sidney are gorgeous!

Roberta, your adorable white bunnies look like a mix between the two of my rabbits, just without the red eys

I have posted these pics before. Its so hard to get decent pictures of the buns, they really dont ever sit still lol.

We adopted both of our bunnies from a humane society in Michigan. Which by the way was an amazing experience. Everytime someone talks about wanting an animal I instantly say “Go to the humane society!” lol

This is Bleu when we first got her in May. Think this was taken a week or so after we brought her home. She is a lot bigger now. She is a Californian/New Zealand. When I walked in the room she bounced right up and put her paws on the cage and demaned attention. I knew instantly I wanted her. I fell in love and that was it, I picked her and she picked me.

This is Kern a Californian/Dwarf. My fiance found it a bit more difficult to decide which rabbit he wanted. There was two other big rabbits which we later found out where Bleu’s sisters. And there was a small, nervous, and slightly antisocial bunny in the room. My fiance likes odd and likes challanges so he chose the small, nervous bunny. I was afraid he was settling and would later regret his decision. Boy was I wrong. I swear sometimes my fiance loves the rabbit more than me

It’s interesting reading about all the arrival stories, some I knew, some I didn’t.

Alvin was a “pet store” rabbit(only the songbirds/ornamental birds there are actually destined to be pets, and rarely they have a litter of puppies or kittens available that they took off the street).

I was basically going through a light depression, I was alone in a new country and had been dealing with the news that my two rabbits I had left in the States with my older sister had been killed by their neighbors dogs. I had my dog(rescued just a few months before), but I’m a rabbit person at heart and I really missed my rabbits(nothing can lift my spirits more than a bunny binky!). I had to drive past a pet store every day I went to school, so the temptation to stop was very high. One day I just stopped and decided to look. There were three tiny bunnies in a cage with a guinea pig, all were snuggled together, all squished up into each other, very adorable. At first I was going to get an adult bunny, but after almost half an hour of indecision, going back and forth to various cages, I kept being drawn back to Alvin. So, I finally decided to get him.

For awhile, I thought he was a girl, so I had named him Ava(hence my unchangable avatar name! haha!). Once I realized he was a boy, I renamed him Alvin, which suites his personality perfectly.

                    Baby Alvin, 2nd day home.

                    Alvin about two weeks ago.

And now I have Dust Bunny, or Dusty, for short. A friend of mine has a friend whose rabbits had a litter of babies, and my friend just decided that since I like rabbits, he would surprise me with one. Poor Dusty was a stinky mess and looked so pitiful, there was no way I could say no and give him back. It took a long time, but the smell and stains have finally disappeared, thanks in part to Dusty’s molting process he’s going through right now! I was told Dusty was a girl so I thought for sure I wouldn’t be able to keep him, so my parents said that they would take him when he was a little older. Well, I know for sure now that Dusty is a boy, so for now he and Alvin are together and love each others company, even if Dusty does get on Alvin’s nerves once in awhile! If they continue to get along, they can both stay together, but if they start fighting, Dusty wll go live with my parents.

Dusty one week after he arrived.

Dusty couldn’t be trusted to run around outside(very skittish personality), so sadly there are no adorable photos of him romping in the grass. This latest photo of him lounging around will have to do. He’s still cute, though! haha!

And the two of them together. I wanted them to lie facing the same way, but Alvin preferred to flop in the opposite direction and to squish Dusty against my bed and use him as a pillow.

This is such a neat thread.

TL – I love the Nora pics! With proper grooming and care she’s become such an elegant little rabbit.

Roberta – The Piglent, Pipi, and Blossom pic is awesome.

My husband and I adopted Dexter and Penny from a local rescue. We meant to adopt one rabbit but I ended up picking out Penny and he picked out Dexter. We had them for about 6 months or so before bonding them. I don’t know their breeds but they are likely mixed.

These are pictures from the first time we introduced them. They loved each other right away.

Monty was a stray rabbit that someone let loose at my old workplace. He’s pretty miraculous because he survived outdoors for about two weeks before we caught him (with the help of my co workers). It was an industrial area with a lot of traffic, coyotes, birds of prey, and it was hot. He’s a lucky little English Lop.

Left picture is from around the time we caught him and right picture is recent.

My husband was visiting his dad when he found Helo and Inara. His dad’s neighbor is the kind of person that thinks of animals as disposable. It was the day after easter and he was already trying to unload these two little ones.  I managed to contact the breeder by responding to craigslists ads and got a bit more info about them that way but I was not impressed with her responsibility.  I’m glad they found their way to us!

                      Helo:

                      Inara:

Monty, Dexter, and Penny are bonded. Helo and Inara are single but they are going to be bonded with the group.

Oscar came from a rescue. He was bred to be snake food but was saved by a good samaritan alongside 2 baby bunny girls. Since only the three babies were taken, I assume the lady who saved them simply bought them from the breeder, but we don’t know the details.

He weighed just over a pound when we got him at almost 9 weeks old. He had mats on his tail (which the woman running the rescue was nice enough to shave off for us), his feet were urine stained.

The day we brought him home:

                        Rat tail and dirty feet:

Today, 16 weeks old, weighing in at 2.5 lbs:

Fluffy tail and pearly white feet:

I love reading everybody’s stories, this was such a nice idea for a thread!

All my rabbits were rescues.  All from the same rescue here in SoCal.  I have somewhat of an idea where they were before they came to the rescue but not exact.  All my buns are spayed/neutered.

Rascal was my first adoption. He was surrendered to a shelter with his mom, dad, brothers and sisters.  All were malnourished and dirty.  The rescue intervened and took in the whole family.  All of those buns were eventually adopted.  Rascal was about 8 months old when I adopted him.  He is about 2 years now.

Valentine was my second adoption.  I adopted her June 2012.  She came from a breeder who surrendered her bunnies because she couldn’t handle it anymore.  Valentine is a beautiful PEW rabbit and a true DIVA!  Valentine was about a year or so when I adopted her. She is about the same age as Rascal.  Rascal and Valentine are bonded.

I adopted Marley in February of this year (2013).  He is a dwarf bunny and full of love and attitude!  Marley was a house hopper for a while.  he was tossed around from home to home until the rescue got him.  Even then one adopter couldn’t deal with him (don’t know why) so they “returned” him. Marley is a VERY special boy and I love him to bits!  He is sooooo sweet and funny.  Loves being pet and loves my attention. Marley is about 3 years old.

Freddy is my most recent adoption. Some of you know his story, some of you don’t.  I will refresh your memories if you’ve forgotten.  Freddy was one of several taken from a hoarder. When Freddy came into the rescue he had sore hocks and an URI.  At the time I was trying to bond Marley with Rascal and Valentine but it wasn’t going over so well.  We then tried a PEW girl named Natasha but she didn’t work out either.  Finally we tried Freddy and they became the best of friends!  I believe Freddy is in the age range between 5 and 7 years old.  I am leaning more toward 7 years based on how he acts and everything.  Freddy came with some medical issues but we have hopefully gotten them all taken care of!  He is such a sweet rabbit!  He loves to give kisses and loves to cuddle.

I got Chester from Kijiji – the equivalent of Craigslist in my area.  The rescue in my area didn’t reply to my messages, so I just trolled the kijiji ads until I found a bunny. It was pure luck that I got him from a good family. His previous owner was moving away for college and couldn’t bring him with her, so she was giving him away. I love my little guy to pieces, and I’m surprised he became such a big snuggle bun

Here he is being unsubordinate and not letting me make my bed until I pet him

I have to say, this is such a lovely thread! Some of these stories are fantastic, so sweet and inspiring! I’m finally getting my bun tomorrow morning (!) I’m getting him from a family who’s rabbit had babies (accidentally or not, I don’t know).
So look out for me tomorrow on the welcome thread, haha! I’ll finally introduce myself properly

Bogie originally came from a rabbit rescue and was adopted by a friend who had a guinea pig rescue.  He has had 3 wives – his last wife was Chanel who was adopted to my friend by me when I had a small rabbit rescue group.  Anyhow, he came to me a few years ago when my friend’s husband was diagnosed with cancer and although he’s recovered (her husband) I still have Bogie.  I am not entirely sure where the rabbit rescue rescued him from.  He is about 11.5 years old.  He’s a nice rabbit with bad habits but that’s okay since he’s an older gent.  I’ve had him for about 2 years now.

Bobby, who is approximately 5 years old also came from my friend who had a guinea pig rescue.  He was dumped in his cage outside her house – well actually her neighbors house (she used to house the piggy rescue in her house at the time).  She discovered him after she heard a truck stop and I guess dumped him at the wrong house.  She brought him in of course and called me and I said “No, I really cannot have another rabbit” and I didn’t want to meet him because I didn’t want to get attached.  Anyhow he was severly malnourished (weighed less than a pound) because he had a severe dental abscess – he has no lower left molars due to this.  Well, again, when her husband was diagnosed with cancer she asked me to pleae take him because he was needing pen-g shots so I did.  He is now up to 1.5 pounds and is doing well with regular dental check-ups.  I really do adore this little rabbit too – he’s so much fun.

I got Sally from a pet store, as a gift. She came with another one, Jack, who saddly passed away like a week later. Jack was the more sociable one and so friendly while Sally was very afraid, unsocialized, and really just didn’t want anythng to do with me. After Jack passed away I felt pretty lonely because Sally still hadn’t come out of her shell. Let’s just say that now she is so cute and I’m always tripping over her because she isn’t shy AT ALL anymore! 2nd pic is Jack, her brother, may he rest in peace <3

Now for my second bun, Harley. After a couple months of just having Sally I started looking around for a companion. She never left the kitchen for some reason so the only chance we had to pet her or when she had the chance to get attention was when we would go into the kitchen. Despite her having full access to the living room, 10 feet away, she never left the kitchen for some reason. AND her cage was in the living room! She would always run up to us so excitedly when we walked into the kitchen so I figured she must be lonely.

Harley came from a breeder about 45 miles away. I didn’t want to go to a pet store again as I had lost a precious bunny due to their lack of care and so I wanted to find a bunny that I knew was very well taken care of by a reputable breeder. Harley’s name was Sunfire but we decided to change that! From the beginning Harley made himself at home immediately. He is the biggest cuddle bug! He jumps on the couch with me every day and just lounges, watching tv, while I pet him. He is a definite mommas boy!

And of course after both were spayed and neutered they were bonded and moved in together within a few days and Sally started becoming more social and loves going into the livingroom now

Everyone’s buns are so cute!!!  Such wonderful stories here.
I’m a 1st time rabbit owner.  I just got my Ziggy (mini rex) off of Kijiji almost a month ago.  I read up on pet rabbits for about 2 months before I decide to buy.  When I brought Ziggy home I was really worried he wouldn’t take to me.  But since then, every day he shows me more and more trust!  I finally got some licks the other day!
It’s amazing how much personality they have.  I never thought I would fall so hopeless in love, but I did and now coming home is such a pleasure.
I give him bunny back massages before bed and now I get a nose nudge when it’s time every night.   I can’t help but spoil this little guy.

I adopted my little boy Cosmo from a rabbit rescue in Calgary.

He was rescued from a mentally ill woman in Edmonton, where he and another male rabbit (both not neutered) had run of the house, and were living inside of a box spring which they had chewed a hole into. Along with being housed with another male, he was found malnourished, hurt (due to rabbit fights), covered in urine (due to male marking and spraying), and his nails had NEVER been cut (were almost an inch long- one had even ripped off)

Happy to say he is now happy, healthy, neutered, and clean!! =)

This is when he was rescued.

                                      This is him now! =D

And here he is flopped out in the living room =)

I got Otto from a show breeder. I really wanted a holland lop, and was interested in starting with a baby, so I found someone local and bought him.

I got Hannah free from Craigslist, from a young woman who wasn’t home enough anymore to give her the attention she needed. I knew I wanted another lop, and I wanted one who was already fixed since spays are very expensive here (~$400). I looked through the rescues but all of the lops had just been adopted out or weren’t a good fit. I went on Craigslist and typed “lop spayed” and her listing popped up.

We had tried Otto with multiple buns at a local rescue and he was completely non-confrontational and comfortable with all of them, so we figured he’d get along with just about anybunny. Hannah can be very bossy with him, but it was also pretty clear from her previous behavior that she was desperate for a bunny friend.

TL:  What a  lovely thread idea!  It’s nice to learn more about everyone’s gorgeous buns.

My husband was intent on going to a rescue to find our bun – but I sent him a link from Craigslist for Baxter….and he fell in LOVE. The original craigslist pic attached.   We picked up Baxter that night.  His previous mom had many other pets….but didn’t know how to care for rabbits.  She rescued him from a pet store, where she said the conditions were not nice, and she just couldn’t leave him there.

After we had Baxter for a couple months, I decided he should have a companion.  We tried a harlequin from a rescue – but it went very poorly with Baxter, so we decided to find a different companion for him.  I wanted a babty dutch tan – but couldn’t find any at the rescues or with breeders.  Then I saw the picture below of baby Boo (standing by feeder) on PetFinder.com, and I fell in love.  We drove 4 hours each direction to pick up this adorable bun.

                                          Safe intro:

                                          And today:

I got Rufus in February this year when he was 8 and 1/2 weeks old. I was about to turn 30 and he was my birthday present to myself!! I bought all the stuff for him and had it set up and then could not seem to get a rabbit! It didn’t even occur to me at that point to try a rescue because all the rescues I knew in the area only had dogs and cats. I had contacted about 20 breeders in my area trying to get a bunny and I was mostly ignored and received one or two quite rude replies. Then I saw an ad on gumtree (Australian craigslist) advertising mini lops. I spoke to the guys who was selling them a few times on the phone and set up a time to go over there. Imagine my surprise when I turned up and he was about 18, living with his parents and I wasn’t allowed inside the house because his parents didn’t like visitors! I probably shouldn’t have gone ahead but he brought out about 6 bunnies for me to look at. We were standing at his front door and traffic was flying past, it was so noisy. I held one or two of the others but I wasn’t sure. Then I picked up Rufus and he snuggled up to me. Every time a car or truck stormed past, he didn’t even flinch. He was so calm! I had always said I was going to go with temprament over colour or anything and I’m so glad I picked Rufus! Now that I look back on it, I realise he also lived through the hottest day in Australian history when he was just four weeks old (with no air conditioning) so I like to think that makes him a bit hardier than some rabbits. It was 45.8 degrees celsius (114.4 fahrenhiet).

This is the pic from gumtree – that’s him on the far right. They’re all so cute!

And this was him the first day at home

Over the years I have gotten rabbits through just about every situation you can think of, except from a dedicated rabbit rescue. I have had them given to me as gifts, from pet stores, from breeders, and from rescuing them myself. I will focus on my last 4 buns in this post, although many of you are familiar with how I got them.

Merlin, who passed away this Summer, was bought from the local pet store, which we will call VFB, for $11 in September 2009. I like to think Merlin and I were destined to be. It had been about 2 years since my last bunny died and I went into VFB for birdseed and saw this cute grey and white adult rabbit there. I had seen him there a few times over the past few months, but for some reason I couldn’t stop thinking of him for days after I left this time, so I cleaned my bunny equipment and prepared for a new addition. I decided that I wanted a dwarf, so instead of getting the bunny from VFB, I went to a pet store in the next town over, PS, and got a young dwarf for $45. He was so sweet and him and my cat fell in love right away. But a week later, I woke up and he was dead. I cried so much and I felt so guilty because we hadn’t even settled on a name for him yet (we refer to him as Bunny now because that seemed to be sticking at the time). PS told me to come on down with my receipt and they would send me home with a new bun. I bleached the cage and accessories before leaving to be safe and picked up the only remaining bunny from PS – who wasn’t a dwarf. I got her home and put her in the cage and she started sneezing and mucus was flying everywhere. I was heartbroken. I put her back in the travel box, rebleached my cage, and made my way back to the store. And they argued with me about taking her back! They didn’t want to refund my money or anything, but I made them. So as I was driving home (still crying), I thought what the heck and swung by VFB to see if that grey and white bunny was still there. Sure enough he was! I told the girl at the desk that I wanted to buy him and she nearly burst into tears! All the workers loved him and were sad that he had been there so long, but they were also afraid that he would end up in another temporary home. His back story was that a woman bought him and then returned him a few months later because he was too much trouble. I had been going to that pet store for over 10 years and they knew me pretty well so she was so happy that I was taking him to what would definitely be a forever home. This pet store was one of the great ones. They never over crowded their animals and the bunny was let out to roam for at least a few hours every day for exercise. This was Merlin (the bun in my display picture). I soon learned that his past must have been worse than we thought because he was terrified of being held and acted like he had been dropped, plus he was afraid of my cat and dogs. He was also older than we thought so we were advised not to neuter him (he wasn’t territorial and had the sweetest disposition so this was no problem). But I worked with him and it didn’t take long for him to love the other members of his furry family and he was just fantastic. I miss him a lot… But that is the story about how some pet stores suck and others rule.

I got Bromley as a baby from a breeder. I wanted a baby because it is easier for a young one to adapt to a multi-species household like mine and I thought it would be easier for senior Merlin to get to know a young bun where he had the size advantage if it got frisky. I contacted the rescue in my town to find out what was available and if they came spayed/neutered, but it took them like 2 weeks to get back to me and by that time I already had Brom. I also responded to a Craigslist ad for a local rescue bunny with a long essay giving every detail about my home, other pets, and including photographs and asking if that specific bunny would fit into my home. I was so mad when 3 days later I received a generic reply saying to fill out their adoption form. I wouldn’t have minded if they said “ya, it sounds like a good fit, please fill out the form so we can continue the process” or mentioned the form in their ad, but they didn’t so I kind of lost it. I sent a very long reply which was polite but critical saying what they could do to make future adopters feel more welcome and attached a fillable PDF version of their adoption form that they could upload to their website and use to save everyone time. During this time I saw an ad on Craigslist for baby mini rex lionheads crosses and since I had contacted the only 2 local rescues I decided to go look at them. The breeder was on a little hobby farm and had 2 pairs which she bred in her home. The rabbits were handled for hours a day by her and her teenage kids and all of the rabbits were so friendly and trusting. We got talking for awhile before I left and it was obvious they were well loved pets. She even asked me all the right questions to make sure I wasn’t going to eat him and asked for me to bring pictures of the cages. When I left she made me promise to send updates, which I have done. But like my dad said, even if the rabbits were living in cramped filth I would have walked out with one or the whole litter in order to save them lol. And everyone here knows just how friendly and cuddly Bromley is. Although he and Mer had some lovely play times, I never ended up bonding them because Mer’s health plummetted and I didn’t think it would be fair to make them fall in love and than tragically tear them apart.

Odette (or Odie for short) is a personal rescue. Since Merlin passed away, I decided to get another rabbit as soon as Brom was neutered. My husband and I agreed that we did not want to go through the stress of another spay/neuter, so we decided to get another rescue bun. I contacted a rescue that is about 2 hours away, filled out the paper work and set my speed dating date. But then I saw an ad on Craigslist… 2 spayed female bunnies with hutch, small rehoming fee and it was a lot closer to my area. And they were gorgeous! A beautiful harlequin rex and a broken blue lop. For a couple of days I told myself no – I was only after one bun. But then I had the terrible thought of oh well what’s one more?! So I replied to the ad asking if they were still available and saying that I was looking for one bun as a friend for my neutered male, but if they are bonded I will gladly take them so they can stay together. My heart broke when I received the reply saying that only one was available because the lop was killed by a dog. I called the number and the more the woman told me, the more I realized this was a rescue case. Both rabbits had been house bunnies, but the owner got pregnant and decided to get rid of them. She gave them to a friend temporarily to find them a home; this was the woman I dealt with. She had been keeping them free roam outside and didn’t really have any rabbit experience (although I will say her heart was in the right place, she just did the wrong research). I offered to come get the rex that night, but she wasn’t available for 3 days – those days were agonizing for me because I was so scared something would happen before I got there. I booked an appointment with my vet before I even brought her home. When I did get there, the woman was 30 minutes late to meet me at her house and the rabbit was still running free around her back yard. She was also a lot bigger than a thought. In addition to not catching her before, the hutch was full of filthy moldy straw. It took about a half hour to chase her from behind the 4 sheds and catch her. We loaded everything into my car and took her to her new home. Well it was a really hot day so we had to use the A/C and keep all of the windows up. Traffic was terrible so it took about 1.5 hours to get home. In that time, I started having an allergic reaction and over the next few days my face became so swollen I could barely open my eyes – I even missed work over it. She was in amazingly good shape considering and the vet confirmed there was nothing terribly wrong with her. She is missing one of her upper front teeth, but the other one has grown in to compensate, and a couple of nails. Her nails were overgrown and she is a little overweight, but we are working on that. She slid back into house life with no problems. Her litter habits are great and she is not destructive outside of her cage. To my great suprise, she is not afraid of my dog at all and she loves to hang out with my cats. She is also very people friendly, although not one for cuddling or more than a scratch on the head. The only problem is that she and Bromley won’t bond easily. They tried to attack eachother through the bars so I have moved their cages side by side. For the past 2 weeks they have simply sniffed eachother through the bars, no attacking, and call each other over. I should be able to progress to the next bonding stage soon.

This is a great thread! Thanks for starting it!

Ok this is weird…. I just went on to Craigslist and saw an ad for the rabbit I had contacted the rude rescue about back in February. O_o
I find it weird because there have been no ads for this rabbit in months (the rescue hasn’t posted in a long time in general actually) and the day after I mention him in my post on this thread, he pops up again.

My boy was from the Anoka – Ramsey Farm and Feed, a family ran business. He was brought in by a lady who breeds bunnies and sells them to the farm and feed for them to sell. He was in a cage with three other bunnies, but he was by far the cutest. I took one look and I said right away, "He is coming home with me" and that he did.

This is the first day I brought him home on June 3rd, 2013. How adorable?!

This is him today, September 25th, 2013. (I don't have many good recent pictures of him, but this was taken while he was playing outside tonight.)

Unfortunately my bunny didn’t come from a very good place though it’s not as horrible as it could’ve been. None of the bunnies were getting hay or salads just pellets and water and the cages were too small (I know that now but didn’t there). I’m glad I got Caleb because he is so much better now than he was then So technically he came from a breeder…

I got Trigger from a breeder it was pretty cut and dry no drama at all. I had wanted a holland lop for few years just never really found the time to find a breeder, but my crazy life style was slowing down so I started doing a little research on the net and found Lops on the Lake. After a few emails back and forth I decided to wait for her next litter which was only in a few weeks. Two weeks after the litter was born I drove up to see them which was about a 2 hour drive. We talked for a good hour or so about buns cuz I still had a million questions on top of all the research I had already done. I was undecided between one or two buns, she said she would hold two for me with no deposit which shocked me she later said it was because she felt I was sure about what I wanted and felt they would be going to a good home. After the little guys were six weeks old I drove back up to pick them up, I did deside that one would be good for now. Nicola said she couldnt be a 100% sure on the sex but was fairly sure Trigger was a male. I did want a male just cuz of what I’d read that most males are more social than females. Every thing has been great with Trigger since I brought him home, everyone loves seeing pics and videos and just shocked that he’s litter trained and runs around the house. He is due to be neutered and I have been waiting patiently for broke pattern female from the same breeder. All and all my bun buying experience has been great and I would recommend Nicola from Lops on the Lake to any one the lives around central Minnesota.

This is a wonderful idea for a thread! I’ve just been reading through everyone’s stories and they are fantastic. Love all the before and after photos, too. It just makes me so happy to see buns in such loving homes!

My story with Quinn started in May of 2012, when I had been saying I was going to get a rabbit for awhile. I had wanted one since I was a child, but my parents would never allow it. I was on my own and felt as though I was ready to take on a bun, so I contacted the local rabbit rescue group in search of a dutch bun, and went to meet with them in the next few days. The lady brought me through to see all the buns they had, and when we passed Quinn’s cage, she hopped right up to me and demanded pets. I fell in love with her immediately. I looked at the other buns too, but as I was playing with Quinn, she hopped on my lap and tried to eat my belt loops. I knew we were destined for one another.

I took her home (I had been prepping my apartment for weeks) and she pretty much ruled the place from the first week on. Here’s her on her first night home, a little wary of the camera, so she’s far from the lens:

Since then we’ve moved, but she’s been great at adapting to her new space, and is far less concerned about cameras.

(Here she is yesterday, begging for her close up)

I got mine because after my dog died last year I was desperate for another pet (we couldn’t get another dog due to work etc), so the only thing I had in mind was some chickens, after I spent a few weeks looking after some chicks, My mum’s friend at work then told her that her bunnies had given birth, so I got a text saying “you don’t want bunnies instead, do you?”. I did some research and decided YES I so want bunnies! Best decision I ever made. I wanted something that would be similar in ways to a dog and mine definitely are that. They’re trainable, they’re full of personality and character and they’re even greedier than my dog was :3

This is 3 bunnies from the litter (the one on the left may be Bill, but i’m not sure. the other 2 went to another home). LOOK HOW TINY THEIR EARS ARE!

And this is my 3 now being adorable

I absolutely adore everyones stories – although I’m so partial to your trio, Annabel! How old are they now? My Tans are a year and a half – they have been inseparable since they were babies. I absolutely LOVE it <3
