My bunny Sammy is now approximately 5/6 months old, by the vet’s estimation. I’ve been feeding him Kaytee adult pellets but read somewhere that bunnies are supposed to be fed the young rabbit pellets until they are 1 year old.

I was going to switch him to Oxbow anyways, so I bought the Oxbow 15/23 type (or whatever it’s called) to feed him until he’s one. My shipment hasn’t arrived yet so I haven’t switched him yet.

My question is, at what age should rabbits switch to adult pellets? I’ve tried to find a definitive answer in previous posts but am finding contrasting information.

        Thanks!

Since he’s already 5 or 6 months right now, don’t bother switching him to an alfalfa-based pellet. The recommendation we follow is the HRS guideline: at approximately 7 months, you can start transitioning your rabbit to a timothy-based pellet. By one year at the latest, the bunny should be entirely on a timothy diet. I would exchange your Oxbow 15/23 (alfalfa) for Oxbow Bunny Basics T (timothy) and begin to transition him over to that. If you want, you can still offer some alfalfa hay (in addition to timothy!) until he’s one, but it’s really not necessary.

Thanks! Sounds good. I’ll return the 15/23 and exchange it for the T… I’ll just buy more Kaytee in the meantime. I need more anyways to properly transition him. Thanks again!
