I just got my bunnies a couple weeks ago. When should I cut their nails? What does it look like when they’re too long? These are some photos of Muffin’s nails. It’s hard to see the quick unless I take a photo with flash. It’s kinda funny that bunny nails look like tiny human nails but rounded.

You should trim them every few weeks to a month. You want to cut them around a fourth inch from the quick, so if they are that long right now you don’t need to trim them. If you aren’t sure if you’re cutting too close to the quick or not, you can squeeze the nail with the clippers a few times, and if the rabbit doesn’t flinch or react you can cut there.

Thank you! Then it seems like they aren’t very long right now. I’m sure they got their nails done at the animal rescue before I got them. 🙂

Ooh, lucky, your bun has easy to see nails. Those with dark nails cause more time worrying about cutting the quik, but you can see it very clearly on your bun. I’ve already cut both my rabbits nails a few times, I try to get pretty close to the quik, and then if they’ll take it I file them down to make em less sharp. They get a little squirmy so I don’t do that every time, though.

Hey Moonlight and Louiethebunny, I just made a new post about a dark nail trim trick (works for any color nails!)

@Louiethebunny Yeah I’ve heard that dark nails are hard to trim. What do you file them down with? I’m nervous to get close to the quik! Even on my cats I just trim a little bit at a time. I hope the bunnies don’t give me a hard time when I have to cut their nails lol. Also where do you put the bunnies when you cut their nails? Thanks. 🙂

Interesting trick! I think I’ve heard about it before but I forgot! Maybe cutting off some of a bath puff would work too. One of those exfoliating mesh ball things lol.
