Hi all I’m really confused and panicking on what to do here. My nethie had a gas episode after eating which then turned into stasis, he’s returned to normal after seeing the vet but I’m worrying because she said she could see molar spurs. She didn’t really seem too concerned about them and just to monitor him since sometimes she’s seen bunnies where spurs haven’t bothered them, she said he might need surgery in the future or he might not. Thing is I already have a dental bunny that gets her molars burred every two months so I panicked and booked him in to have them burred off and also to have xrays and that is coming up on Wednesday. I’m just worried because I’ve read stuff where people burr them too early and now I’m worried I might have jumped the gun? I just don’t want him to develop an abcess but I also don’t want to ruin his teeth shape by doing this too early and I’m just so confused on what I should do.

          Hi!
This is nothing to worry about. My lop and New Zealand get dentals. You can never have it done too early. My lop used to be a bad hay water when she had chronic ear infections and the slitest points, she will stop eating, so she required dentals but after removing her ear canals she eats hay and has no dentals.

You might want to try a different hay to see if he likes that better and that encourages more eating of it. It might also be how his mouth is set up, his jaw don’t match up perfectly so how he wears his teeth down may not be even so he develops Spurs. And you can’t ruin teeth shape as their teeth are always growing and that’s why they need to eat hay constantly. It doesn’t hurt to get the dental and see if he is just super sensitive to Spurs like my lop was
