We have a 2 month old bunny. She’s been really good and hasn’t shown any interest in our electronic devices at all.
I do know bunnies like to chew on cables, so I’ll have to start bunny proofing my house when she begins free roaming.
How old were your bunnies/how did they start chewing cables and wires?

One of my rabbits – never

The other rabbit – from the very beginning. I adopted her and the next day I needed to get a new laptop charger. It took 2 seconds flat.

…. some rabbits have their specific habits, and generally thin strand objects like wires, rope, etc. are very appealing for rabbits. It’s great that she has not shown interest. She may or may not in the future as she grows up, but regardless, prevention is the safest rabbit proofing strategy. Even if there is no interest, it’s always best to tuck wires away, especially if they are plugged in.

We have a lot of bunny proofing but my boyfriend got complacent and left out headphones where a rabbit was playing who had never chewed cords before. All of a sudden from the other room I hear “Clover what have you done I trusted you!”. Turns out he caught her hopping around with the chewed off cord in her mouth. The moral of the story is bunnyproof and never trust a rabbit with electronics 😀

cables were love at first site, my bedroom is not really bunny proofed, but he occasionally sneaks in & beelines to the charger cable. I have now at least stuck them mostly out of reach… so if he barges in I have a chance to stop him.

A lot of bunnies will chew cords randomly. Even if they have left them alone for YEARS, one day they may just surprise you. I would say to expect the unexpected. 😉

So forgive me for asking a question that seems to be common knowledge … but how do you bunnyproof a cord that you cannot tuck away?

@Kathy you can get tubing to cover the wires in. If you google “split wire loom tubing” you should see some examples, though there are other options too. I haven’t done much myself as I just fenced off the area with the wires

@Kathy if you check out the Bunny Proofing section under the Bunny Info tab at the top of the page there are photos of the materials that prince dorian mentioned. I use a combo of the spiral cable wrap and the split loom type wrap.

You can find them at hardware stores in the electronics section as various types of cable wrap. It is best to completely block cables because if they are very persistent they can chew through the bunny proofing wrap, but the wrap makes it a little harder for them to get to the actual wire, plus I think it’s less enticing when the wire is thick.
