Hi guys! I thought it could be fun to share what toys ours rabbits like best
.
Tambor is not very keen on toys, and I am trying to figure out a way to encourage him to play. He doesn’t have destructive tendencies and hardly chews on anything (he only chews on things that are in his way to move/push them away; and then he forgets all about them), but I want him to have fun! He doesn’t like to chew, or lift, or push, or hide… Is your bunny like this?
I am training him to “stand”, jump on my lap and jump over my legs, and he seems to like that, especially when pellets are involved. So, I guess that’s his “favourite toy”.
What about your rabbits’?
Hugs!
My bunny Ruby chews everything and is obsessed willow balls and apple wood.
Much Love!
Velvet is a BIG cardboard chewer. I recently got him a slinky and baby links that he is figuring out what to do with. I got them as a non edible toy since he shreds and eats lots of cardboard. So far, he loves the new toys! However, he has a plastic hidey house that he occasionally jumps on top of and baby keys he has yet to find a purpose for. He also likes to run through his tiny fleece forest I have hanging up and the treat ball has been a favorite.
Hey RubyTuesday! Thank you! I have heard bunnies love willow and apple wood! Where do you get them?
Does he enjoy chewing on furniture as well, or just cables and such?
My Oakley is not a chewer either – he doesn’t chew cardboard boxes , or his toys
He will sometimes fling his toys though
He has a rabbit specific toy ( I forget the name!) that looks like a small wooden bowl filled with loofah and chew sticks – he likes to throw that
He prefers to jump like your boy so I have a step stool , ware lounging logs and plastic hideaways for him as jumping them is his favourite thing to do
Petshops and Amazon ect should have the wooden chews – apple and willow – or you can go get some from trees that haven’t been sprayed too
I only use willow or apple for my boy as it’s easy for me to remember what he can have if it’s just two
and I can get those two easily where I am but there are lists of safe ones around
My boy loves to chew the sticks ( only thing he will!) but they can’t just be loose on his floor – they have to be more inviting ( pierced through a toilet tube – tied with sisal or seagrass rope in bunches or something like that )
Our Charlie likes wooden clothespins , golf balls, and pencils when she gets the chance (we keep those put away since most of them are painted).
A small beach ball ![]()
Green bamboo – the pencil lead will be very dangerous too
Q8 bunny can I see this beachball ? You’ve mentioned it before and I looked around but unsure on size ect ![]()
There are pics of Chewie with it around the forum but I can’t find one at the mo.
But it’s as big as he is – so about the size of a basketball??
Oh yeah I can picture it now – ours here are like twice that size … I still have a couple of places to try though
Oakley’s absolute favourite toy is a ware plastic tunnel – I have the jumbo one whichever is 8″ opening or 20cm
It’s expandable up to 2.5feet
Oakley has a green one and I just ordered him a purple one too
I would wager that Chewie would love any size beach ball.
This one was just what the convenience store next to my building had the day Chewie first came home ![]()
Mine like to play with the vertical blinds! They also love to chew on cardboard boxes. I put a fleece blanket on my pergo floor under my sofa and they like to slide around and dig on it. Annabel has just started to learn to toss a small ball, so I’m going to get her a rattle soon.
Hi guys!
Thank you for all your messages! How do you present the toys to make them look more appealing or interesting? Or do your bunnies start playing with them straight away when they see them?
I made Tambor a cardboard hiddey home this weekend. He gets inside a couple of times a day but leaves after a minute or so. He seems to prefer to lay and do nothing and I fear he may be bored -maybe it is just the way he is.
Hi Oakley’s mama!
“I have a step stool , ware lounging logs and plastic hideaways for him” = That sounds greats! Do you have pictures of that? I think Tambor may like them too
.
Could someone please add the photos for me?
Thanks ![]()
The hideaway is a living world dome large ( these are on Amazon under that title – you’d get away with medium I think – so would I – but I got large so I knew I’d never need a bigger one – and Oakley likes the space in the large )
The ware lounging logs are bendable – so you can bend them into different heights or widths etc to fit your space – and they are edible
you can get coloured ones too but I found the dye would run when I cleaned them so I go natural colour in them now
The tunnel is a ware tunnel – go for jumbo – it’s 8″ width and it can be stretched up to 2.5ft ! You can make it less long though if you need it for a certain space
The step stool is just from a hardware store – a normal child’s step stool. Make sure you get one with grip on the top so he doesn’t slip ( I’ve added a photo of my ones grip) I’ve since added a cat bed on top of the step stool which fits great and he can’t slip
He loves it up there and under it too – kinda like bunk beds for bunny
Hi Oakley’s mama! Thank you very much! I am impressed by his toys, he must be so happy! <3<3<3<3. Tambor's bunny room looks empty to me now
.
Amazon ships very few things here (I think only books and such) and pet shops don’t have anything for bunnies (or for cats, for that matter), but I looked everything you recommended up and I may be able to find some things in the hardware store.
Thank you!!!
Yeah they don’t ship much here either – maybe eBay ?
A step stool would work for jumping on and off / as a bed/ and as a hideaway though
3 in 1!
And your hardware store may have similar tubing ( ours don’t over here but when I google tubing for rabbits I see lots overseas use plastic drain pipes – some are solid and some expand just like the tunnel – maybe play around on google to see what I mean and find options that are rabbit safe from others more experienced with hardware pipes for rabbits than I am
A fabric cat tunnel some like too ( Oakley’s not so fussed on his cat one )
Sebastian’s favorite toy is a large cardboard wave which he loves to chew. Juliet’s favorite toy is either her cardboard truck or her log chew.
Hey Green Bamboo!
How do you encourage him to play with the golf ball? Do you throw it towards him or does he play on his own?
Hugs!
Hi MyLikeIt!
Tambor loves our curtains and likes to hide and run behind them. Do your bunnies like to chew on yours? Are they made of wood/plastic? Tambor ignores the curtain tissue.
Bella loves slinkys and her toy car. The more money i spend on a toy, the less she will play with it.
Stacking cups and anything they can chew on!
Chom loves anything he can rip and chew apart. Newspapers, paper mats, grass mats, especially willow balls, willow wreaths, etc.
Oh wow, this is a tough question! Even my Jake who isn’t a super playful bun more of an eating and lounging kinda boy haha), he has a few he definitely loves.
In no particular order:
-his small pet select honeysuckle ring
-his American girl doll bunk bed (the bottom bed has his hay box)
-his rosewood carrot play patch
-his kitty tunnel
-BLANKETS
-anything willow
-roller barrels
Oakley and Boston’s mama-this is like super random but I had a chicken named Boston but it was a hen so it made no sense her sister was named new Hampshire lol I was five.
Breintje loves to chew cardboard, so tp rolls or kitchen paper rolls are hugely popular. I sometimes stuff them tightly with greens or hay so that he has to work to get them out. It’s a really fun challenge.
He also has a digging box with paper shreds, a cat tunnel, a wooden chew log and two hidey hole boxes.
One of his favourite things is a “kong” ball: a ball with a little slider in it which covers a hole. You can put food or treats into it and adjust the slider to make it more difficult for him to get the food out.
Bas bought a great toy for him yesterday, and oh dear we’ve been having so much fun with it! It’s called a Teach ‘n Treat by the Living World brand. It’s a puzzle board with 3 different puzzles, the rabbit has to try different ways to get to a treat.
Puzzle 1 is quite easy: the holes are covered by the blue cups, and underneath some cups is a treat. The bun has to take the cups in his mouth and throw them away to get to the treat. That was easy. Action shot!
Puzzle 2 uses the white insert, which turns the Teach ‘n Treat into a sliding puzzle. The blue cups can slide around freely between the insert and the brim. Bit more difficult but quite easy when you get the hang of it. Requires some pushing with the head.
Puzzle 3 is the hardest of them all. It uses a circular blue overlay with a grip on top. It nearly covers the entire puzzle, but when it’s slid around you can uncover the holes step by step. Does require a lot of digging, dragging it around and trying to puzzle out how to get to your treats. At one point Breintje was so frustrated that he picked up the entire Teach ‘n Treat and tried to flip it
But finally he worked it out and he looks so proud of himself!
Wow Ellie that is so cool!
Morgana and Avalon are chewers. Anything they can chew and shred – is their favorite toy.
Guin is super playful and cute. She like to burrow under a thick pile of hay and jump up scattering hay everywhere. Her favorite throw-toy is a Kaytee Large Kabob Treat Dispensing Small Animal Toy https://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Small-Animal-Ka-Bob-Dispenser/dp/B00176F664/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1489758813&sr=8-30&keywords=small+animal+toy that I added apple sticks and a lava rock to. She chews on the lava rock, and throws the toy around making the bell jingle. She also likes to rearrange blankets and towels. Lancelot doesn’t play. Before he got sick, he used to run full speed up his ramp and flip over his cardboard hidey hole. He used to enjoy shredding packaging paper and cardboard boxes.
