How did your bunny get his name? I’m sure this was a topic way back but I’ve never seen it here, so here we go.

I always put a lot of thought into my pet’s names. I usually make a big list of possible names and then ponder over it for a few days.

Stormy: He was my first rabbit and I had no idea what to name him. I was thinking of Thumper because I absolutely adore Thumper (glad I didn’t go with that though, way too common!) but then decided to name him something to do with his unique colour. I kept thinking about how his fur reminded me of the sky just before a thunder storm, when the sun and dark clouds start to mingle, and there you have it… Stormy.

Bindi Loo: When I got Bindi he was so super furry I had no idea if he was a boy or a girl so I though the best idea was to find a good unisex name. I got him about the time the Crocodile Hunter died (can’t think of his name right now, but I’m sure you all know who I mean) and there was a lot of pics in the mags of his wife and daughter, Bindi. I loved this name because it’s so original. I decided to use it even if it’s more of a girl’s name, it’s not overly feminine. When I talked to him, for some reason I just started adding “Loo” to his name and thus his name was born.

Olivia: When I got Olivia I made a long list of possible little girl names. My little niece, Emily, who’s 3 and loves rabbits, picked the name Olivia out of my list. She looked at the bunny and said “she wants her name to be Olivia”. So matter of fact, it was so cute. So that was what we called her. Emily is so proud that she named her, she has a framed pic of Olivia with her name printed on it in her room.

George – my first rabbit and the wife’s third, got his name from Looney Tunes where the abominable snow man says “I will hug him and squeeze him and call him George” , which is a reference to “Of Mice and Men” (sadly George passed away about month after I got married)

Jessica – is named after Jessica Rabbit from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”

Marvin – is named after Marvin the Paranoid Android from “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”

i like people names much more than descriptive names.

Meadow was named in the car on the way home. we hadn’t expected to adopt a bunny that day, so all we had was a cardboard box they gave us. she was looking up at us with her big brown eyes. “The Sopranos” (HBO mob family tv show in case you live under a rock somewhere) had just ended a couple weeks before and their daughter’s name was Meadow. for some reason it just popped into my head, i said “Meadow” and then it was decided. it morphed into her being “Meadowey”, that was then made into a proper name: Meadow E. Bunny. now that she’s married (lol), she hypenates it into Meadow E. Bunny-Moo. she’s always been an independent lady.

Max’s rescue name was Mugwug, which i thought was very cute, but again, the non-people name thing really throws me off. plus my son could not say it at all. i’ve always loved the name Max. short, sweet, to the point. i wanted an “M” name to match Mead (and Michael, and Mike… i’m the only non-M in the house… unless “Mommy” counts!) so it became Max. he’s such a sweetie that Max was even a bit much, so it’s now primarily Maxie. also Maxie Moo. he does resemble a cow. this explains why Mead now has the “Hyphen Moo” on her name.

i really LOVE the name Jack.  i have always wanted a pet named Jack.  but BB’s Jack is the perfect bunny, so i didn’t want to infringe on his right’s to the name.  maybe someday i will have a Jack Bunny.  i can only hope he’s half the bun that Jack is.

and i adore Marvin the Paranoid Android.  i *heart* HHGttG…

Boston was named after the 2 hour drive home from picking her up. We were told she was girl at the petstore, but we weren’t positive. We thought about names like “Babs” and “Bugs”…way cute but overused.

So explored categories that the boyfriend and I both could agree on and appeciate. We went through Manny (after Manny Ramirez of the Boston Red Sox—and he plays for the LA Dodgers now, so we’re glad we didn’t pick that), and also considered Fenway (after the ball park) and Wally (the green monster). I came up with just Boston, it seemed the most like an actual name and as different enough.

If (WHEN) we get another bunny his/her name will be Fenway!

Kokanee-brought her home and decided she was so funny so she needed a name that would make people laugh. She started chewing a box of Kokanee and so she was named.

Kahlua-had to match Kokanee’s name, start with a K and be a booze name too.

Rupert and Chuck came with their names, although I call Rupert “poopert’ and Chuck “chuck norris’ (because everyone calls him my hellen keller bunny and I say no way, he’s chuck norris!!)

Fuzzy – because he is a lionhead and angora mix and is the fuzziest bunny I have ever known personally with crazy fur sticking out all around his head and his hind legs. He has a bit of an agressive issue and grunts and boxes alot so I also call him My Little Grumpus.

Happy – My husband & I are huge Nascar fans and our favorite driver is Kevin Harvick who is nicknamed Happy so he was originally named after him but it ended up being the perfect name for him because he is the happiest, bouncing little bun. He’s about 8 mos and isn’t neutered yet and poops everywhere! So his nickname is My Little Pooper.

Kokanee is a brand of beer in Canada – I’m actually a Canadian (from Calgary) going to school in the US.

Pepper’s shelter name was Annabelle Lee – which was waay too girly and it’s from a depressing poem.

She’s black and white and quite spicy, hence “Pepper”

Pringles…..a black/white spot lop something…..she is my son’s rabbit and he had a can of Pringles chips on his desk while holding her. We’ve had a lot of strange named creatures over the years. Since she was proclaimed a she, then he twice, and she again, it was good that the name was unisex, I guess

Daisy….a black/white Dutch we bought as a girl for our then he-Pringles. Good thing Daisy turned out he, as Pringles was finally diagnosed a she on spay day.

Toby….our solid black shorthair, dentally challenged shelter boy who stole Pringles away from Daisy. We were looking for a Harry Potter name, but he’s such a small happy little bunny that Severus or Snape didn’t fit, so we went for Tobias.

Lola….our beautiful white, blue-eyed rex girl who came to us with her name from the sanctuary. She definitely has the haughty rabbitude of a showgirl!

Simba….older little black lionhead bachelor I was babysitting for a friend, then adopted after his human dad passed away. His real name was Simba-Mr. Rabbit-Bunny-Little Guy, etc. With his long black curtains of hair hanging in his face and sinister Don’t Touch me look, HE could be Sniverlous Snape with no problem.

Hershey…..older beautiful brown girl with big dark brown eyes who is successfully teaching Simba how to properly adore and worship a lady bunny.

Radar from the song “Radar Love” or Radar O’Reilly from M*A*S*H* because he was always taking care of the animals…..I also call her Dopey because she is always shaking her head when she runs and it makes her look ‘special’….

and Josefina because she responds to Jo… I would have renamed her something different though. I call her sassy lashes or porky…. or whatever comes to mind at the time.

I love revisiting this topic! ^_^

Mimzy-My sweet first bunny came to us just after I’d rented and viewed the movie, “The Last Mimzy”. I had originally thought I would call him Toffee, as he’s so deliciously colored like one, but I’m glad I didn’t!

Pip-My daughter named her bunny after the little chipmunk in the movie, “Enchanted”. I wanted to call her BigWig, from Watership Down, but then we learned she was a girl…so….didn’t pan out.

Fiver-The Cassandra-like rabbit from Watership Down who sees visions and causes the rabbits from Sandford Warren to strike out and find their new home. When I held him for the first time, the name just came to me, like he’d placed it in my mind. He learned it was his within three days.

Rain was named after the paint horse rain in the movie spirit… the horse had an all white face and her markings really reminded me of our rabbits… so rain it was. ive also been told it looks like shes all white and was rained on revealing her real color underneath, kinda cute.

Abbie was just Abbie… we were going to get a different english lop and we had planned on naming her Faline, when that fell through the family who picked abbie up selected her for us out of the litter. I pondered for a couple days on what to call her and Abbie just seemed to fit her silly personality so Abbie Faline is her registered name. (Faline because i think its a beautiful name)

my Bonnie was named because for the first like 2 weeks I called her Bunny becuase I’m really uncreative (I have a Betta Splendens fish named Betta Splendens) and my dad was like “I know you can do better than Bunny” so since she was already answering to it, and registering that was her name, I tweaked it a little to Bonnie!
And this way when I adopt my next Bunny, a boy, I’m naming him Clyde!!

I had a list of 3 or 4 names that I liked and I let my husband choose- and he chose the name “Cotton”.  I think my other possibilities were Tabitha (Tabby), Holly, and I can’t even remember what else.  I let my husband chose the final name as he was not very excited about getting a rabbit so I figured it would get him involved a little more.

But ironically enough he obviously chose the perfect name for her as evidenced in all of my 100% cotton pajama t-shirts….LOL.  They all have little bunny holes in them.  I will ask her “Are you chewing my shirt?” and then she will stop- but it is too cute.  Last weekend when we were at my Mom’s I showed her my pajamas and all the little holes on the right side- chest and shoulder and she said it looked Moth-eaten… I laughed and told her it was Cotton chewed.

Charlie was Charlie. I was driving home from the pet store with him in a box, that he was industriously destroying, and while I was chatting to him Charlie just happened to be the name I was using.
With Layla, we’d just gone to the shelter and adopted her but she could come home with us because she hadn’t been spayed yet. We were having a ‘fancy’ lunch with wine, antipasto etc and had Eric Clapton on in the background. Layla came on and well that was it. She was Layla from that moment on & it suits her so well!

Carrera- we are into cars and my husband wanted to name her after a car- so we chose the Porshe Carrera. But people when they see it written never know how to say it.
Pookie- we were going to name her after a car as well but her dark color reminds me of Garfields bear named Pookie- so it stuck
                                              Cooper- named after a car
Hooper- came from the HRS w/ this name. He answers so well to it we didnt have the heart to change it but we do usually refer to him as Hoopie so we can keep the boys straight.

Maxine – the name just came to me. The name suits her too. She’s a huge white New Zealand
Mango – came with that name. He’s the bunny in my avatar.
Emmy – came with that name. It’s a pretty feminine name and it suits her – she is a red eyed white Rex – very pretty rabbit.
Toffee & Twizzler – I think their name at the shelter was Yogi and Flower and I didn’t like those names – Toffee is an agouti color and Twizzler is a black bunny.
Peaches & Peppermint – just liked the names. They are mother and son – dutches.
Jingles – got him around Christmas – I’m sure he hates that name too – he’s a big old Californian rabbit and the name doesn’t really fit his big old grumpy self.
Giselle – I have an aunt named Giselle and I always thought it was a pretty name. She’s a very pretty and spunky Californian mix.
Pepe – he came with that name – I should call him Fang though because he bites.

Hee, hee! Fang! I love it!

Lizzy–Came with that name from the shelter. But she’s too much of a princess to just be “Lizzy”, so usually I call her “Miss Lizzy”. Or “Lizzy-Diva-Bunny”. Or “Lizzy-bits”. Or “Miss-Bits”. I know…no wonder the poor girl doesn’t answer to her own name (unless I’m yelling at her and the spray-bottle looks forthcoming!)!

Robbie–When he was hopping around being “wild” in the park where my crew found him, they named him as a way of teasing me, because they knew I have a bunny. “You better keep YOUR rabbit from chewing all our cables! You hear that, Robbie the Rabbit! Stay away from the high voltage or you’ll be fried rabbit!” Well, he got even with them for the tormenting, and gnawed through a signal-cable that wasn’t carrying any power, and I kept calling him Robbie. He’s lucky he didn’t get named Roger Rabbit!

I think it’s cute, ’cause I have Lizzy the Lagomorph, and Robbie the Rabbit! (I know, I’m a geek.)

Both mine came with their names.  We call Tucker “Princess Tucker Bunz” or “Tucky Tucks” though, and my little boys call her “Tucka Bunz”.   She actually doesn’t come to that though.  She’ll stop doing bad stuff if you say “Tucker!” but she seems to relate that to being in trouble.  If I want her to come to me I have to call her “pretty girl” and she’ll come running.   Maybe she’s just happy that I finally stopped calling her a boy???

Drue came with that name too….but I do know where his name came from.  The head of the rescue named him after the best man from her wedding, he was a guitar player of a rock band that she managed at one point.  I think it fits him since he has his crazy ear..I could see him being in a rock band LOL.  I call him “Druebee  Druebee Drue” though, like scooby  doobie doo because he’s so big and bouncy and just reminds me of scooby doo.  The kids call him “Druebee” .  And again, he doesn’t come to just Drue..he comes to “Druebee Druebee Drue” and it has to be said in that voice too…you know the voice.. LOL
