I want to make a about a 1 foot shallow box made out of a sheet of coroplast for my square dog exercise pen to sit in.  If I have to cut the coroplast pieces to make the box myself, can anyone recommend the best and easiest way to cut the coroplast?  And the best way to seal the corners, and sides of the walls of coroplast to the floor piece?  Is there anything better than white duct tape as a sealant?   Thanks so much!

Use an exacto knife, and use a permanent marker to mark where you will cut. Then score it with the knife (lightly trace, so it cuts just slightly) -then you can press hard and you’ll get a perfect cut as it follows where you scored it.

I use duct tape…if you find something better let me know!!

Thanks, now to find a place where I can buy some inexpensive coroplast. Any recommendations? Where did you get yours?

Sign stores if you explain what you want it for might sell to you for cheap – home depot by me has it for $6 a sheet as well.

Thanks Stickerbunny – you got a good price!

Thanks aerosmithgirl, for the link, just under guineapigcages.com, in the photo they have of a coroplast lined cage, no duct tape holding the seams together is visible. Any idea what they used to hold the coroplast box together? Also, I searched coroplast in the forum, and Petzy said her bunnies have chewed a hole in the coroplast. I’m thinking of lining the coroplast floor with adhesive tiles. Anyone had any good experience with this? Your comments would be most welcome! Thanks!

The common used thing is tape – either duct or clear packing tape, something that will keep the liquid out. Some people use glue, if they are very careful to keep the glue from squeezing inside the cage when folded, which is probably what was used in the cage in the picture.

Thank you, what type of glue? Did you use glue on your coroplast or did you use tape?

I didn’t end up making a coroplast/NIC cage because my bun was too cagephobic to live in a cage (so he has a half-cube with his litter box in it he can go in/out all the time with the litter box as a bottom). But the guides to building the cages says super glue, though I would probably recommend hot glue like with PVC just because it’s easier to keep it on the side you want it on if you’re going to use glue. If you do end up using glue though make SURE the buns can’t get to any of it to chew, as it is bad for them. Tape is probably the safest, though not very pretty.
