lol….before Boston got spayed she thought that my arm was her mate and humped it all the time! Its totally normal! Are your buns spayed/neutered?

yeah both of them are fixed….but she mounted him and started acting like she was the male….after which Tako seemed very violated and didn’t move for about a minute or two

Think they do this to exert dominance over the other. She must have had to set him straight about something…

Must be like a Miss Piggy + Kermit relationship.

Mine do this all the time too. She will mount him, then groom him. Then a little later on, he will mount her. Crazy confusing buns!

how bout the humping? she mounted from the back and started humping him as if she was the guy, and Tako just took it, it kinda looked like he was sad that she treated him that way

the humping is fine. as long as neither bun is becoming aggressive during, it is okay to allow it to happen and really, there’s not a whole lot you can do to stop it. like was said above, that’s how they determine dominance in the relationship. she is saying, I WANT to be in CHARGE! in bunny language.

Okay, Should I do the same with her then…I kinda put my hand on top of her and put her head down then used my fingers to pet her rear end. She was docile during the proccess and didn’t run. Is this a good idea to express dominant behavior over my buns?

I’m not sure if it’s a good idea, I don’t think harm could come of it, but I wouldn’t bother with it

But yes, either sex will hump the other No worries as long as they don’t fight!

Is there a reason you would want to show her dominance? Many times just by a human’s sheer size, you can rule the roost. Is she biting you or doing something that you don’t want? There are other solutions to dealing with some behaviorial issues.

No not really. I know they aren’t dogs but I know with dogs you have to be the dominant one to control the household. Thats why I was asking, but okay, I just did it in reaction in case she wanted to think she was dominant over me. I’ve heard stories of people who get marked on because the bun thinks they are the property of the bunny, or something along those lines. So I wanted to prevent and dominant behavior over myself and keep myself the ruler of the bunnies lol

Ah, well completely understand that reasoning. Rabbits do have a hiearchy type of thing so I can understand why you would associate that with dogs. AND the things you have mentioned can happen for sure. But usually you don’t have to do a physical dominance over the bunny in the same way another bunny would. Some people have success with a gently pressing their bunny’s head down with certain behaviors, but really, it all depends on the specific behavior. There usually isn’t a one dominant move fixes all type of thing.

Okay I understand. I guess I have one more quetsion. My goal is to keep them both int he same pen, if this behavior is going on then should I starting moving them in? or should I wait? I’ve been waiting about 4-5 months just so that I could fix them then move them in together so that I can open up some space. Just curious if thats a good idea at this point in time.

I would go through a bonding process (check out the bonding section under Bunny Info)ONCE they have finished establishing who is boss and they get along then you can house them together, but I would wait and not do it now if one is pursuing the other all the time to dominant. This can lead to fights, and even if it doesn’t it can be to stressful on the one being mounted.

You definitely don’t want to move to prematurely because if they fight, it will set you back.
 

Also, out of curiosity, how long ago where they fixed?  Their hormones should die down over time too which will make it easier.

its just a dominance thing, its all normal lol baxter thought any limb on my body was free game for humping lol:p
