i work on saturdays in retail, so it’s the only day i really need to be up at a set time.  the rest of the week, my son is usually my alarm clock.  but on saturdays i like to wake up even earlier than i need to, shower, and then drink coffee and surf BB for a bit before i leave.  today was no different, or so i thought.  got up after smashing the snooze a couple times, showered, dressed, flipped on coffee.  i went to go check on the bunnies, say my morning hellos…

Meadow was in the litterbox munching some hay.  Max was flopped next to her…  but… on the other side of the pen.

        from front to back:

        Meadow in litterbox

        Pen

        Max flopped

        Wall

what is the problem with this scenario?  how did he get out of the pen?  he was behind the exterior bunny proofing so he had to have jumped, but that would have only given him about 8 inch clearance betw/ the side wall and pen, the 36 inch high pen.

i called my hubby to see if he had checked on the bunnies when he left at 5 am.  he said “yeah, of course.”  <--- i love him by the way...

i say “was Max in the pen or behind the pen?”

        silence.  “in.”

“i thought so, so he must’ve done it after you left…”

i have no idea.  he’s never done this before.  i looked at him and he wasn’t hurt, he’s hopping normally.  he was back there long enough to eat some of the wall, but you know… it comes with the territory.  i got a major THUMP b/c i had to scoot him out with the broom.  my arms aren’t long enough to reach all the way behind.  so he ran out, dove into the maze and let me have it.

all of this before morning coffee… never a good idea.

          beka,
Welcome to the Sat. AM before work coffee & BB routine. I do it too.
First thought is that Max ended up in that space, but that’s not necessarily where he got out. He may have jumped over a more convenient spot, then lay down back there. Also, check your pen openings for looseness. I discovered once that Spockie’s side door, one I never used, had loosed up with his leaning against it for a long time while napping, and popped open with no pressure one day. He just went “hey, what’s this?” and came out.

Found him staring at me in the hallway when I got home from work. NO idea how long he’d been out, and it was a mystery how for a few days.

everything was locked.  all the panels are secure.  i suppose he could have jumped over the front… and then over the bunnyproofing on the left side?  but if he was in the general bunny room, he would’ve gone in the maze, or my room, or the living room (all the doors were open.)

and to clarify further… Max has never jumped on the couch or bed.  it took him a couple weeks before he’d even venture to the second story of the maze.  he’s just not a jumper…  i’m seriously shocked.

Maybe he somehow smooshed himself under? I’ve watched in shock as my lionhead has come crawling out of the smallest spaces…. And Ember will pick up the entire x-pen repeatedly until it falls back again at a strange angle so that she has a space to crawl out under… they’re evil little creatures sometimes

ahahahaha what a good photo! I bet Meadow sent him over in search of pellets but as soon as he got out he forgot what he was supposed to be doing and laid down to take a nap

creative little critters. I have seen Cotton go thru the bars of the baby gate in the bathroom and go box at Honey bunny. I am surprised he doesn’t jump the other door gate  he used to jump and climb right over that xpen the  highest one I could get.

Hopefully the buns won’t be sharing their secrets so the others on BB dont’ catch on to this idea.

                          Hm. He…teleported? ^_^
Be on the lookout for a man with pointy ears and a tri-corder or a blue British police call box from the 1950’s.

I love the silence before the hubby told you the buns were contained. Maybe he was thinking about how much a plane ticket would cost if he didn’t give the right answer? ^_^

EDIT: lolz…Perhaps you should start calling him “Maximum Ride” and check for feathers! He may be keeping a set of wings under his ear flaps!

                            Rabbitpam is an artist!

This is mysterious! Have you sussed it out yet? I remember pics of your set up. Can the buns kind of lift the base on the pen with their teeth? I’m thinking he could have flipped it up and scooted his head under before it came back down. Else one lifted while the other scuttled under!
                            Who knows???????????

i have a double xpen. 4 of the panels are overlapped and ziptied together so it would fit in the space i needed. i can lift the thing to move it, but it’s a work-out, b/c it’s really kinda heavy and awkward. i still have no idea how it happened. we went over my sis in law’s for dinner last night and before i left i had to shut all the bedroom doors, pick up the living room, all in anticipation of Max getting out. ;o) no place is safe. next thing they’ll be opening door knobs… at which point i will just throw my hands up and let them have the house.

that pic is hilarious! you used my two fav pics of them! i love it!

all night i kept hearing the pen clanking and i’d have to go check. Mead had been rattling the bars in the morning, so i kept thinking it was Max. i get up and Max is laying down in the willow tent… sneaky bunnies.

i woke up early yesterday morning.  for all i know, they do this every morning, but are careful enough to hop back in before i wake up.  there’s always a small line of poos along the wall.  i thought they got kicked out.  apparently they are carefully placed there.
