What type of brush do you use on your bunnies?  I have a mini-lop who sheds terribly.  She doesn’t like when I pull the loose hair out of her and so far I haven’t found a brush that works well, or that she likes.  Any suggestions?  I also have a Rex and a Dwarf, neither shed quite as bad as she does.

You may want to try a regular wide-tooth comb rather than a brush. Brushes work good for the "fuzz" but for shedding I opt for the large tooth comb and when it is real bad, gently back comb. I’ve used many things but keep falling back to the comb, some things I’ve tried are the new rubber brush, it works better at getting the fur off of couches and upholstery than rabbits and the cat brush that looks like a carder used for spinning wool failed horribly, my rabbits hated it. Also just wetting your hands and running them over her will help too. Hope this helps!

I use a cheap microfiber cloth. It grabs everything without pulling and it feels like a good petting.

Thanks for the replies.  I did buy a wide tooth comb and it seems to be doing okay.  She definately does not like her butt brushed.  I will go buy the microfiber cloth also and see how that goes.  Thanks again.

No problem! Let us know how it goes! FYI – my bunnies don’t like their butts to be groomed either and it’s just a course of acceptance at this point, a part of their grooming routine. Speaking of which I heard the click of bunny nails on the linoleum today, time to trim their nails!

I actually brushed Floppy’s butt today!!!!   She is enjoying being combed.  I would have never guessed.  I pet her head and comb the rest of her.  She is looking sooooo much better.  Do you trim their nails yourself?  I take my bunnies to the vet to get their nails trimmed.

Oh that’s great news! Grooming can be a great time to bond with your bunnies!! Some just love getting all that extra fur out faster when you groom, especially when it is hot outside. Oh yes, I trim the nails myself, little slivers at a time and I use a flashlight for Bonsai’s dark nails. When you use the sliver method, wait until the rabbit jerks the foot back, then you know you are close to the quick and it’s time to stop. It can be difficult to trim nails, especially if you are not used it as they can squirm quite a bit, practice and confidence really help.

I have a number of brushes and combs and am not really in love with any of them. I know binkybunny has one kind that she swears by – maybe she’ll tell us what it is again! We lint roll our rabbits, since well it works and they have been putting up with it lately, lol.

My bunnies do love the VERY soft “baby” brush that we use on their faces. It doesn’t do much to help with shedding, but it feels so nice on their cheeks and forehead.

Viktor is running the bunny 5000 around the living room as i type, he he. he’s so funny!

Ok, don’t laugh but Sophie’s a rex and her fur is so thick that when she sheds, it’s all over my house. It looks like snow!!! I have a hard bristled dog brush that she looooves. I also have been known to take a masking tape lint brush to her and just roll it over her. She thinks it’s a super special treat, kinda like a roller massage for bunnies. it pulls out only the loose fur and feels good on bun-bun at the same time!
