For those who have made their own cages, what do you use around the base to keep the hay and everything in?

I don’t really want to use just wood because I know Loki will chew on it. I’m planning on making a cage with the storage grids & zipties. Unfortunately I cannot find someone to build one for me so I will be doing it myself. Any other tips would be appreciated!

I moved this to the Habitat & Toys-section because it’s more appropriate here

I think most people here littertrain their bunnies, and even if a bunny will poop outside the box at times, a neutered bunny will become quite good at using the litterbox for peeing.

Wood is ok for bunnies to chew on if it’s untreated. Many bunnies chew on plastic too, I’d say wood is better for them, it’s harmless if they should ingest it.

Hay can be kept in a hayrack or in a ball that has holes in it so the hay-strands can be pulled out.But no matter what you do, you’ll end up with some left-over-hay in your house, somewhere

I have a wooden cage for my Bam at my mother’s, it has no bottom so we just put a piece of an oil-cloth table cloth under it and when he goes to the bathroom, he does it in his litter-box.

it’s not really for urine or anything, I just wasn’t sure what else to call it. I just want to use something to keep in his hay and everything so it doesn’t fly out. I plan on using wood but I was wondering if there was some better ideas! Loki has been neutered but he does love to have his little territorial poops everywhere

I took a large, rectangular, plastic storage box and modified it. I removed the lid and cut off one short side and one long side. I then filed it smooth. My bunny’s litter box sits in it with the outer ‘walls’ on the outside of his pen. This keeps hay from falling outside of the pen when he’s sifting for the best pieces.
