I want to convert my closet into my bunny room for my 7 week old mini lop, but don’t know what to use for flooring?  We are working on the litter training, but want to put something down over the hardwood floors to protect from urine.  Anyone have some tips or ideas for this?

Your best bet would probably be a cut piece of linoleum, but have it cut slightly larger so it curves a little bit up the walls. Be aware: bunnies (ESPECIALLY young, unneutered ones) can be destructive to anything in their path. This includes baseboards, drywall, paint, wallpaper, door frames, etc… You may need an added layer in between the bunny and your closet.

OH!  And welcome here!  Do you have any pics of your bun, I bet he’s just precious!

Thanks! I have blocking of the walls, door, floor boards, etc figured out (I am using solid plastic shelving grids that snap together all along the walls) i t was the floors that stumped me!

I think I will go down to the home store and check out the linoleum, that sounds like a great idea.

            (hope this pic works!)

aww…too cute for words!!  I am such a sucker for lop bunnies- and your bunny is adorable!  What is your bunnies name?

For flooring you could also use Coroplast-  it is what is used to make signs- it is like corrugated cardboard- but it is corrugated plastic- so there are 2 layers with “pockets” inbetween.  It is possible to trim it so it has an edge- you just cut thru the top layer and leave the bottom intact and it will fold.  It might be trickier to use in a closet and it won’t be as flexible as linoluem to get into place- it is pretty stiff.  And it is a pain to cut- at least for me it is- I had to find somewhere in the house to lay the sheet where I was not worried about accidentally cutting thru completely and cutting the carpet- so I had to cut it in our basement.  It is great stuff but if you are looking for something easier- it may not be your first choice.  Plus we bought a sheet from a local sign shop and it was inconvenient to get home in our car- I think a sheet is 4ft by 8ft- and it does not roll at all or bend much.

Another option would be sheet vinyl- I use it under my bunnies pens.  It is sold on a bulk roll at fabric places, I think other people use it to cover picnic tables, tabletops, etc.  It is clear or tinted clear- and it rolls and cuts easily.  I do lay fleece blankets over the vinyl since if it wrinkles the bunnies will usually chew the wrinkled area.  But it is so slick that is about the only way they can get their teeth into it- at a wrinkle or an edge.  It comes in different thicknesses- and the thicker the better- less likely to wrinkle.  It is pretty inexpensive maybe about $6 a yard or so- and I always get coupons in the mail from Joann Fabrics where I buy it from.  I do end up replacing it about every 6 months or so.

If Cotton and Schroeder ever decide to live together full time I might consider making a tile floor base with nice tile, grout, etc.  But I would not recommend that with a young bunny that has not been fixed yet.  Hormones can cause marking behavior so it is best to have something completely cleanable until the bunny is more “settled”.

Her name is Notorious and we call her Torri and of course, I absolutely adore her!

My first idea was actually cloroplast, but the sheets come just a smidge too small for the width of my closet to make the edges with, so thats how I ended up here! The hubby likes how the linoleum looks better and I like the price of vinyl better so I guess we will just have to check out both, thanks for that tip.

I am goo-gah at the moment!!  How sweet is she?!  I am “patiently” waiting for my boybuns former owners to sent me his baby pics but looking at your Torri…I think that would be just like him at 7 weeks!

                    Welcome to BinkyBunny

I would be happy to add some pictures of the closet! I also love looking at pet habitat ideas, so I always try to add some of my own for other people and that way I can get some feedback as well!

So, it was really hard to get a pic of the closet from within the closet, but this is what I came up with:

I think its a good start, she seems to like the extra space.

She is really cute! i love lops and agoti is my wife’s favorite, so, we both fall in love with Torri.
if you don’t mind, i’d like to ask a question: did she make the scratches on your left hand? i always have this kind of marks, thanks Fluffy it seems identity cards for bun parents.

Honestly, I have no idea who made those scratches. I have cats, rats, mice, and a hamster as well, so I am *always* covered in scratches!
