Ok, was looking for some pics showing ages, so I could sort of see what to expect. Our babes look like their eyes are starting to open and I was wondering when they should etc etc.

Anyways this is for me, Starbucks mommy and anyone else with thier ‘surprise oops’ litters, it’s week-by-week pics of babies. OOOhhhh yeah and it’s also to fawn over!!

Awesome pictures! I’m bookmarking that site for further reading and fawning. Only looked at pics so far…….are the rabbits housed outdoors?

One of the babes is similar to Jersey so I’m pretending I’m seeing her from 1 week old! Also starting to doubt if she is as old as I pegged her…. a pet shop buy and I naively assumed she must be at least 8 wks when I got her (pet shops be oh so responsible etc *roll eyes!*)

Umn, the site isn’t the best, it’s this girl raising for 4H project and has to get rid of the litter…but the pics are great reference I think

That reminds me, we have huge numbers and take on good causes…what do you guys say to taking on 4H and letting them know about rabbit overpopulation and asking them to STOP rabbit breeding as a 4H project?!?! I think we should!

Guess we won’t know, she may have responsibly dealt with homing the babies afterwards – lets hope!

I’d be in for campaigning to stop 4H projects……………..you’d just have to explain to me exactly what it is first!

Ahhhh ok, see I”m not all that familiar with it either, but 4H is like a club for young farm kids. They do meetings and projects and things with animals. Alot of it is great, showing horses and raising cows and pigs. But they have them breed rabbits, and obviously that’s not a great thing-that one project added like eight or more rabbits, and 4H is pretty large scale. If your in, I’ll do some research and start a new thread with contact info, and each of us could contact them and say that we don’t agree with that project, maybe suggest something different for another 4H project, and why-ie. rabbit overpopulation.

It’d be good to get some stats on how many rabbits are in shelters in the UK, US and CDN and then how many are PTS to back us up too…

No kidding, KK. Just lask week NINE rabbits showed up at the local Waco Shelter. Mom, Dad and 7 babies. A friend here at work told me they had belonged to friends of hers. A 4-H project by the daughter that she got tired of. I had to really bite my tongue.

Mom and babies are in a foster home right now, but Dad is up on petfinder.

                  http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12615347

Mom’s description was that she was totally unsocialized. ggrrrrrrrrr.

I’m glad someone fostered them, everynight I was walking around my 6 bunny warren trying to figure out how to squeeze them in for a few weeks.

Thank you for the pictures and the links.  It seems to me my two big ones are right on track.

Ok I will get started on the resaearch so it’s easy to click and email.

I always found that was best with my animal groups; Its hard to spend hours doing something; but if theirs a quick link you just click and hammer out an email (and you know what to write because you know the issue) then it’s super easy to write and make some changes!!

Arghhh! So I’ve gone back at looked at the site where the photos came from more closely…..

                        Here’s the low down:

After 6 months of getting her pet rabbit, owner intentionally bred her.
Feb 2000 – litter of 7 born. Owner doing 4-H project with the babies. Doesn’t intend to keep them but guarantees they’ll go to loving homes.
Feb 2001 – Doe has given birth to 5 more babies. Turns out 1st litter weren’t re-homed either. One escaped never to be seen again.
May 2002 – Doe has given birth to 2 more babies.

Who knows what 2003, 2004….etc brought! Certainly not a solution to rabbit over-population problem!

Ok, not to seem insensitive, but I can’t stop laughing at the expression on this little one’s face:
