Miko is typically out all day except for my 8 hours of sleep at night. He’s 1 1/2 yrs old and until about 2 weeks ago he rarely left poops outside of his cage. He always rushed back in and apparently would poop in the cage (his cage is left open so he can go in and out at will).

Any ideas what this could be? Yesterday, for exmaple there were about 40 poops – and i had just vacuumed 5 mins before. It’s really gotten out of hand the last week and I don’t know what to do.

P.S I tried the litter tray outside of his cage & that didn’t work very well.

        Thanks again for your help!!!

Is he just pooping or peeing as well? Have there been any recent changes in the house? Usually when a bun starts pooping outside the cage it is a “marking” behavior where he is trying to “claim” his territory. Usually if there is a new scent in the house, like a new person came to visit, or someone brought their pet over for a visit, can trigger a bunny to start marking his territory. Also, if there have been changes, such as the furniture moving around, or a new litterbox, or any other changes to his environment can cause the change in pooping habits.

no there have been no changes at all to his cage or anything moved in the house nothing has changed. its just the oddest thing. i’ve tried putting litter trays with his poop in it and he pays no mind to it. so i’m not really sure of what i should be doing.

He’s decided that the place isn’t all his yet so he’s leaving a trail of them all over the place, marking it as his. He could stop on his own after a couple of weeks – when he’s decided the place is his again. Or it could be a hormonal thing happening now. Buns are strange like that. All nice one moment and absolute terrors the next.

Have you been around any other animals lately? Even enter into a petstore and pet animals?
