Ok……our sweet Sid-bunny, now approx. 7 mos. old, just bit my hubby when he was trying to clean up his pee on the floor.  He’s not neutered yet so I know his hormones are on overdrive right now.  We have an appt. for him next month to get the "job" done……so we have to deal with this erratic behavior until then *sigh*

I just can’t believe he charged and bit my husband, whom he adores !  He just started doing this the other night and I thought maybe it was a one-time thing, but I guess not !  He ripped the urine soaked paper towel out of Doug’s hand and acted like he wanted to tear it to shreds !

None of our other bunns are fixed yet either but we put them up out of Sid’s road while he’s out……maybe he is all fired up because of our Lionhead, Mopsey ?  She’s getting done the same day Sid is, but she’s more tolerable with her behavior.  She doesn’t charge us, but she is marking everything.

Is this normal for Sid to be acting like this ?  Hubby is now on the floor asking Sid if he’s mad at him and why he bit him……he’s petting him through the cage bars & Sid’s letting him, soooo…..??????

        Any thoughts ?

        Tami

ahh, hello hormones! welcome to teenage bunnydom :-O
Bunnies who are intact can be highly territorial (hence the peeking on the floor in the first place) and honestly my own theory is the hormones kinda make them wacky. I’m sorry your hubby got attacked and hope that neuter date is coming up soon. The fact that he can likely smell Mopsy, who’s also not spayed it likely making things even worse.

The behavior should stop once his hormones have a chance to die down. Hang in there!

yep, gravehearted is right, this sounds territorial due to hormones. When they get that first surge they can bite their very best friend. Even bunnies that have grown up together, played together, snuggled and groomed, will display aggression and dominance towards each other when they reach sexual maturity. Some bunnies show more aggression than others, just different personalities.

The fact that Mopsy is around can make it even more important for him to show himself as the dominant male.

OMG !!!  All that from hormones ?!?!?!?!?   Our sweet little Sid-bunny………

              I miss him

Would you believe all the vets around here are booked up until Feb. & April ?  We can’t get Sid & Mopsey in until Feb. 29th !!!!   We really wanted to take them to the one that’s further away because it’s half the price we’ll be paying for the local one, but they’re the ones that don’t have any openings until April & I really don’t think we can hold out that long !

I’m hoping we can survive until the end of February, LOL !

Thanks for the insight, gravehearted !  At least I know now what we’re dealing with *sigh*

              Blessings,

              Tami

i really feel for you right now!    this is not really a fun time.

the very worse bite i got from Meadow (where she actually drew blood) was when i was cleaning up her cage.  she was probably about 6 months or so.  believe me… by that time i was counting down the days until her spay.  after the surgery, her behavior did a total 180…

please be careful around Mopsey also.  even if she’s not showing that agressive behavior, chances are good that it may still come up within the next month before the surgery.

good luck!!!  remember you’re not alone… and your bunnies DO NOT HATE YOU!!!  it’s something everyone with unaltered bunnies have to go thru.

Ah yes, Cadbury turned into a raving lunatic right before I got her spayed. She would lunge at my hands when I put her veggies down, when I cleaned out her litter box, etc. And she was the sweetest bunny in the world before that! Once she got spayed, she was back to her sweet self, so hang in there! Bunny hormones are NOT fun!

Well, hubby got bit 3 times last night !  *sigh*  I am going to have to see about getting Sid altered before Feb. 29th because we can’t put up with this.  Our house is going to start smelling like a pee factory and we’ll be all bruised up by then, LOL !

I noticed yesterday that now Mopsey is pulling her fur out !  She’s throwing everything out of her litter box, pulling the old shirt we have in her cage for her to lay on in the litter box, and all this fur !!!!!  She’s making a nest !!!!  Oh my, my, my, my………

                      Nope……we can’t wait………

My little Netherland Dwarf, Bally, will be 4 mos. old on the 30th of this month, so I guess she’ll be next…….or should I wait with her since she’s so little ?

Something funny about the whole Mopsey thing……..hubby is almost bald & when he scooped up all the fur in Mopsey’s cage he made the comment, " Hmmmm…..if I had some super glue, I could have a nice head of hair right now !"  BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA !!!

Ya gotta find something to make you laugh in this situation or else you’ll go nuts !  LOL

My poor bunn-bunns  :*o(  And poor jealous hubby, teeheehee……oh…….sorry *blush*  LOL !

OOhh no! Maybe that’s why she really doesn’t want you in her home! Is there *any* chance she could be pregnant?

                        Poor hubby ! Hheehehe

I’ve found since my bunnies need to ‘supervise’ me when I clean their cage, and really get in the way, I block the area off with a gate and I can clean in peace. Maybe you can block you bunny from where you are cleaning to minimize biting until the ‘big day’ comes!

that’s so funny K&K… ever since i made Meadow’s enclosure, i’ve been closing it behind me (with her outside) when i clean.  she sits right outside the grate and stares at me… but it’s better than her chewing my socks or nudging my butt as i bend over… lol!!!  i was just waiting for the day when she takes a big bite outta my @$$…

Fraid so!  This is why SOOOOO many buns get dumped once they hit puberty – they go from cute cuddly baby bunnies to psycho buny teenagers overnight, and if people don’t know about speutering they get overwhelmed.   That’s what happened to my Pepper – she got turned out in a park.

WOW! I got lucky with Rocky, i the other buns def did the marking thing and Craisin had moments but not as bad as most of these sound. Rocky was 1.5 yrs old when i got him but wasn’t neutered. wonder if the age helped. i feel lucky,

Good luck to all of you with the baby buns!

Haha, my boys are acting sort of like this too. Acorn doesn’t like me to clean up around him so I have to shut him in when I am cleaning around his enclosure and shut him out when I am cleaning their cage. I can’t wait till their surgeries!

Also realize that your hubby is another male and so Sid sees him as a rival. His nips and so on are telling him “Hey, this is my place and my girls! You get out.” I guess you need to show Sid whose signature is on the mortgage.

Then again, you probably shouldn’t do that…

ooo boy – it sounds like hormones are really hopping over there!

If Mopsey 100% has not been exposed to a boy, then she might be having a false pregnancy. If you think there’s any chance she was, get her into a vet. They can likely do a spay now for her, so there’s no litter.

Some vets prefer to wait a little later to spay the dwarf breeds since they’re so tiny, but you should ask your vet.
