It is yellowy, a pale yellow, and found in his litter box, in a couple spots ont the carpet, and here is a picture of it on a box I gave him to hop on:

It looks like a liquidy substance, but it’s not at all–if you touch it, (and of course I washed my hands x___X) it is a really fine powder. It kind of reminds me of if someone were to grind up his phonebooks, so I took his phonebooks away until I’m sure this isn’t dangerous.
I know they can’t like, vomitt, so I guess he’s not eating the phonebook and throwing it up but… could he be pooping this out!?! I am really concerned about this… x-x
This looks like light sludge. Once it’s dry — If you scrape it does it turn into like dusty chalk? Some rabbits will excrete this every once in awhile as they process calcium — So, for example if they ate food that was higher in calcium, like kale, they may excrete this. However, this isn’t something that should be in the urine all the time. And if you are seeing this on a regular bases you would want to take your bunny to a rabbit-savvy vet and get on a diet and/or treatment plan to prevent expensive future problems.
Jack has this ongoing problem (though his can turn much thicker if he doesn’t drink enough water) and this can cause him discomfort. He also developed a bladder stone and had to have surgery, but we have been able keep it controlled so far with vet recommended diet changes, increased water intake and sub-q fluids when he doesn’t drink enough.
If this isn’t something you see very often, was there anything in particular that he ate recently that might be higher in calcium?
Ah, yeah, carrots are high in calcium, aren’t they? I don’t give him any more than a half a baby carrot in one day.
Is this something that will be really uncomfortable for him too? ):
Carrots are high in sugar for rabbits. You just have to watch how much you give them because it will make them fat. Alfalfa is high in calcium. Does he eat Alfalfa based pellets and Alfalfa hay?
Yeah, it looks like the residue in pee. Pretty normal as they excrete excess calcium in the pee. I saw it more in mine when she was younger but I stiil see it a bit when cleaning the litterbox. Sometimes dried on cardboard like that too if there’s been some pee flicking. Looks like he peed down the side of the box there.
Okay, I just got my list out from my Vet
I had a calcium issue with one of my bunnies.
It says to avoid turnip greens, mustard greens, kale and broccoli due to thier high calcium content. They are also high in vitamin A so a lot of people still give them a little. I give my bunnies Bok Choy everyday along with some other greens. I like Bok Choy because it is also high in vitamin A but not calcium. The heads are large and it lasts a while in the fridge too. Just some suggestions
I don’t think you should be worried or anything. It’s probably not his phone book.
Nawh, both hay and pellets are timothy based, but he gets VERY FEW pellets because he’s fat (:
The carrots are a treat thing, because he ADORES THEM, but like I said, he doesn’t get much of them at all. x) Thanks Nibbles.
I wonder what would have possesed him to pee on that box? It’s not anywhere near his litterbox and he has NEVER peed outside his litterbox ever.
Well, I guess I don’t have to worry about him dying then if it’s pretty normal, right? Maybe no more carrots?
Tank will be thanking you a lot, Nibbles, he loves that phonebook. xD
lol my bunnies would hold a grudge if I took thier phonebooks away. They love thiers too. I think it is pretty normal. Just make sure he is getting a lot of water. What kind of water does he get anyway? I’m just curious because I give mine bottled water but when I was shopping the other day I realized the water I was buying (and just about every other bottled water) was enhanced with minerals and other things for flavor. It took me a while to find one that was just natural spring water. Some tap water has calcium and chlorine. Ours smells of chlorine so I don’t drink or let my buns either. If it smell that way I would
I think carrots are fine. I buy the small bag of the matchstick carrots. They are a perfect small treat for bunnies
I get a lot of love from them when I have those. It is more fun for me to feed them the matchsticks because they climb up on my lap to get more. They didn’t do that when I just handed them a piece of carrot![]()
He just drinks tap water, which is from Des Moines Water Works, they add flouride, but that’s all. The thing of that is, since he’s a shelter rabbit, it’s the same water he’s always drank, prolly.
Huh, matchstick carrots? That’s a good idea instead of the baby carrots… I just bought them because that’s what I eat… haha xD
I’m sure your water is okay. I would give mine tap if it didn’t smell so strongly of chlorine. The matchstick carrots are great in my opinion. Not too many though and maybe not every day ??? Our vet said that is important a bunny not be too overweight because they eat thier cecals directly from thier…well, you know lol He said a lot of overwieght bunnies can’t reach them lol
Carrots are NOT high in calcium and it would be a good thing to give a sludgy rabbit.
Is that right? Raaaagh, then I can’t imagine what is doing this to him! X_____x
Carrots are a good thing to give bunnies and they love them! Just not too many for an overwieght bunny
They are not high in calcium but they are high in sugar for bunnies. I don’t think you are giving your bun a large amount of carrots. That is about how much I give to mine.
