I’ve had bunnies since I was about 13 years old always had Rex breeds or Lops. I recently got two rabbits off craigslist my first rabbits in about two years, I’d say I’m decently rabbit savvy but still have a lot to learn. The thing is Mary is a Chinchilla rabbit, I know for sure she’s one but I have no idea what type [American,Standard, dwarf or Giant] I was wondering if there are any ways to tell what sub-breed she is. I have no clue how old she is other then what the women I recived her from told me that she had her for a month and the pet shop said she was a juvinile. So is there any other way to tell?

There are standards but I have no idea what they are and usually the rabbits sold at pet stores are a mix so they don’t always meet a “standard” and sometimes they don’t really know how large a rabbit will be when full grown. That being said, there will probably be no way to know how large your bunny will be until she is full grown and then again, she may not fit into a size category.

I agree with Sarita. Also, chinchilla is a color pattern as well as a breed – she could be chinchilla colored but not actually be a member of any of the chinchilla breeds. I think they’re more rare breeds, so it seems unlikely that they would be sold in a petstore (not impossible of course). Many other breeds come in the chinchilla color. If you could post a picture we might have a better idea.

I read on a few websites thats although the coloring is may be similar if you blow on the fur there will be four rings in the fur and thats how you know. I will deff take pics as soon as I get her in a calm state where she isn’t running around like a mad women LOL. Thank you all.

the chinchilla coloring is actually a kind of agouti, which is quite common. We need pics to see what your bun looks like.

If its the bun in your avatar… thats a dutch

Early guess, but I’ve looked at tons and tons of new zealand babies recently, and that totally looks like a new zealand to me.

The little brownish guy is definitely a dutch, the grey COULD be chinchilla, but could also be a new zealand, or a a mix.

Rex rabbits have fur that is very short, and feels like velvet. It is very distinctive. I can tell just by looking at yours that there is no rex fur.

No clue on the grey one, but I agree with Monkeybun…the other one is definitely an adorable little Dutch boy!  If you do a quick image search of “dutch rabbit”, you’ll see that he has very distinctive Dutch markings.

The grey one is definitely chinchilla colored, but really tough to say if she’s actually one of the chin breeds – she could easily be a mix.

                            Very cute buns!
