Hi everyone! My Netherland Dwarf Wick is a very vocal rabbit. He’s not my first rabbit, but I’ve never had a rabbit make as much noise as he does. On one hand, I believe it’s because he has a lot of nasal congestion, so sometimes it’s simply a consequence of that, but other times, it’s apparent he’s purposely trying to make a noise to express emotion or get attention. I want to know how many of BinkyBunny members’ rabbits make their own noises and when (partially to make sure Wick isn’t making any sounds I should worry about).
Below is a sound clip of when Wick is napping, but he only makes this noise if someone naps next to him (literally a human squatting on the floor, doing their own bunny loaf, and having their face right next to his body). He also makes this noise when he’s pet occasionally. It sounds like a growl, but it’s a very happy noise! He chatters his teeth and either falls asleep making the noise, or goes into his “dream state”, where his eyes stay open but they move around (like when humans move their eyes while asleep).
Press the play button to hear Wick:

— … and very fitting of him, the clip ends with him sneezing.

My Amelia is a talker, she grunts when every she wants something, grunts at the dog to get him to play, and she coos/honks when she she is happy.
I love having a vocal bun
Awww, that sounds so cute! I’ve heard that NL dwarfs can be quite vocal at times, it’s because they have opinions about everything ^_^ Oh I love them so, they’re so lively and clever and full of beans. Our Breintje is also very communcative. He uses several different kinds of thumps and grunts to communcate with us, for instance:
* Loud thump with full force and foot flat – panic, heard a scary noise
* Soft thump with foot flat – I disagree with that and my opinion should be heard (I don’t want to go in my cage yet, I’m not amused because you picked me up). He does this several times a day to show his opinions. He doesn’t seem to be angry, just trying to be very clear.
* Swift tap with front of foot, sounds like a sharp “pat” – excitement about food. He’s become a huge fan of fruits like banana and tangerine, and he runs around you tapping his feet because he has to wait for you to get it out of the peel. Stupid human, peel faster, faster I say! TAP! TAP!
* Soft repeated grunt while running around you – You’re not fast enough with giving me my food, I’m impatient
* Loud grunt with a lunge – You’re invading my space, my litterbox is a work of art and don’t mess with it
* Occasional sigh when you pet him just right, followed by teeth clicking.
Then there are the noises he makes with objects to attract our attention. He makes noises with these, takes a long intent look at us, and repeats it until we take action. Especially the looks are funny, he’s trying to see if there’s a reaction.
* Flipping the food bowl, if still not obvious enough for those fools: take it in your mouth and bang it against the cage bars
* When he doesn’t get enough attention he steals items off shelves, just so you’ll chase him to get it back
* Licking the couch when he thinks it’s cuddle time. He’ll lick a couple of times, which makes a rasping noise. Then he stares at you, and continues to lick – stare – lick – stare. This is impossible to ignore.
Pippi can sound just like that when he is ‘snoring’ and he is a very vocal bunny too.
aww! It sounds so cute to me! – Sounds like he’s content and just utterly let himself go with relaxation, if you ask me — I’m jelly – my bun, is as silent as Teller is lol
Mine is
also a netherland, he is kinda silent but quick to cause mayhem and destruction
when he feels like he isn’t getting the attention he deserves. Starts doing
things he knows aren’t allowed like climbing in the bookshelf’s (yes he is a
monkey), chewing on stuff, pushing things over and so on.
Binky is my most vocal bunny. Constant thumps of disapproval when I move ANYTHING around in her room! Grunts and circling my feet when I’m trying desperately to feed her in 2 seconds flat before she pulls at my trousers and purring on the odd occasion that she allows me to give her nose rubs ![]()
hello there, we have a 9 month old female lionhead bun who is also very vocal.when she feels possessive she will run towards us and grunt very very loud. she loves affection….so if I am on the floor with my phone she will come over and nudge my hand, if I do not immediately pay attn she goes as far as grabbing my phone out of my hands with her mouth and tossing it to the side then pushes into my hand lol. when she is content with her head being stroked she will grind her teeth and make little chirping sounds. adorable
Mine ‘talks’ a lot actually. He does his ‘hu-hu’ sounds when he’s feeling lusty or when he’s exploring somewhere he can’t see me (like: hey I’m here! now I’m here!). To greet me he gives me a single ‘hu!’ (to which I ‘hu’ back, lol)
He never growls, if not to attack the broom when he’s not happy that I’m cleaning his stuff and sometimes thumps when he sees invisible monsters… then he chatters his teeth when he’s very relaxed.

Haha, yes they can be so offended at that.
Attention, please? Please? Hrummpf, well then…ATTENTION! NOW!
I just love all that personality.
My bunnies are pretty silent apart from teeth grinding when they are happy/relaxed. It can be quite loud! They do chew loudly and practicality inhale water which makes them squeak
And of course they thump if something has scared them. That’s about it really. They’re silent ninjas most of the time.
Sebastian clicks his teeth all the time when he is happy. Juliet will grunt at me if she is hungry, annoyed (if I take out her favorite blanket for me to clean it) and both make the strangest noise when they drink. It sounds like loud swallowing! I realized it was them drinking after I did my panics!
Avalon and Morgana are quiet, except for thumping when the cockatiels disturb them. Guin used to grunt when she didn’t like what I was doing. At that time, she was living outside, and quite grumpy. Now that she is indoors, she grunts when she is exited. She is never grumpy anymore. Lancelot used to snore. After his various rounds of antibiotics for EC, I haven’t heard him snore. But he does breath loudly when he sleeps. He squeaks when he eats and is thoroughly enjoying his food. Before he got sick with EC, he used to make a buzzing sound while circling my feet.
