Hi! I’m a newbie here, and not yet had a bunny. I’m looking into adopting, so I’m getting all the info I can. My question is, when I see a bun and its love at first sight, and I’m interested in adopting it, what should I ask the shelter about he/she? Do most shelters provide info about the animal? Would I need to check it, or get to know it first before adopting? What should I do or ask before adopting the bun? Just what’s the basic things I need to know about a bun before I should come to adopt he/she. Thanks!

You should ask what rabbits eat, ask for the rabbits age, any nearby reliable vet clinic, where to buy a rabbits hay and other supplies. I would go on here and do some research on the pages about what rabbits eat and their basic care before adopting a friend. Sometimes people at stores or shelters aren’t able to provide reliable info, or not enough if it. By the way, you will need to find a place to buy hay: this includes Timothy, Orchard Grass, Oat, and alfalfa. Alfalfa is for young buns under eight months. You will also need pellets. Oxbow pellets are the best for rabbits. I would go on Small Pets Select to buy most of this supplies beforehand. You’ll also need to bunny proof your house as rabbits are chewers and get into all kinds of trouble. You may also want a cage. There is a bunch of basic needs and stuff on here. There are even links to websites that can find nearby rabbit vets.

I would simply ask his/her age, spay/neuter status, medical history and anything else about his/her background (what bought him to the shelter for example) You’ll need to know what pellets the rabbit is on so you can provide the same and what veggies he/she has.

I always recommend before getting rabbits checking what vets will do rabbits and making sure down the road you’re not high and dry if you get a rabbit and they get sick suddenly.
