I have a circle litterbox.. lol i know its weird!!! We use Yesterday’s news cat litter.. do you guys where they sell wood stove pellets in Cali?!
My local feed store, which is like 1hr away, only sells kiln dried pine pellets, pine pellets, and cedar pellets! I know, eww! D:
Plain old x-large litter boxes and yesterdays news litter. Pine pellet litter is fine, you can also get horse stall bedding which is pelleted wood, or feline pine… home depot usually carries WSP but since Cali is warm they might not, but you could ask if they could order some.
Not sure if Cali sells it (I’m in RI) but I would assume so. Maybe not at that store but maybe a different feed/tracker/home store?
I use small cat litter boxes in her cage (she has two in her cage), then a big base of a plastic pet carrier outside of her cage (The top of it has a gaping hole from the rats and it’s one that comes apart, so I turned it into a poo box). For the litter boxes I buy her a cheap version of yesterdays news. It actually works pretty well. It’s an Eco-petco brand and it’s good for the environment and the buns (it absorbs well too). The bigger box that’s outside of her pen, It just has shredded newspaper and hay in it. It’s more of a fun box but she poos in it when she is running around my room. She technically has three boxes but only pees in one… weirdo bunny. Haha.
I got a cheap plastic cat litter pan from wal-mart, I think it was $2, right now I am using cozy n fresh litter
the kiln dried pine is fine, the drying process gets rid of the oils that are harmful to buns.
Regular extra large litter box for the small bunny and a low in height but large storage bin for the larger bunny. I use Yesterday’s News, but I also am looking to switch to horse stall or wood stove pellets.
Small boxes for Samson, xLarge boxes for Lady, and I used to use Cellsorb and really liked it, but now I’m trying out wsp’s.
Mandy, is the Eco petco litter from petco in the small animal section or what? ;O because the 15 pound bag of paper litter of petco brand, in the small animal section, is 17 dollars!! Yesterdays news is cheaper.. How much does your litter cost and what section?
What is Cellsorb made of ?
There are lots of brands of litter on the internet. Try Petsmart.com. As for litterboxes I got one for 2 dollars at Walmart and it is big!!
Bunnehs, Wow! That’s pricey! Mine was only about 7 dollars (it’s a medium bag). I think it was in the small pet section too. O.o Idk why yours is so much!
I was told by someone at a rabbit rescue the Orchard Supply Hardware in Southern CA carries wood stove pellets. I just keep checking the chain pet stores and when Yesterdays News is on sale I try to get a couple of bags. I also check for coupons and sign up for their shopper cards.
Extra large cat litter pans and either Crown Animal Bedding (newspaper pellets) or wood stove pellets. They are “in season” here in the Pacific Northwest, so I stocked up on four bags, at about $5/bag. Wasn’t sure I was going to like them, but I do, so I’ll probably go buy more before the season ends.
Thanks guys!!
@Bumblebunny: OMG reallly?!
OSH right?? i have one right near my house.. where do you get your Yesterdays News litter at?
Most petstores and sometimes walmart, or a grocery store like Stop N Shop or Shaws carry Yesterdays News, but it’s more common in pet shops.
It took me a while to actually find a tack and feed shop here in Southern California that sells wood pelleted bedding but after several months of searching, i found one nearby. Sells me wood pelleted bedding for horses that look and smell exactly like feline pine. Only the 40lb bag cost me only $6.00 opposed to the $22.00 per 40lb page of feline pine. Really look around. They do sell them out there.
I use cheap, basic litter pans from petsmart and exquisicat paper pellet litter.
I get free newspapers from campus, rip them into strips and fill a plastic cement mixing tub that I bought from Lowe’s. It takes about 5 papers every other day.
I use Equine Fresh (wood pellet) bedding and a homemade wooden litterbox. I used to use the cheap-o plastic ones from the store, but he kept outgrowing them. They are either too small or too big, so I just measured out the size I wanted and my husband and I built one. It has two high sides and two short sides, with a vinyl tile fitted over the board on the bottom. He also used to move his litterboxes around and dump them down the ramp, but he doesn’t, or can’t move this one around, so it’s much much better!
meow1 -that litterbox sounds neat! Can you please post a picture of it? Do the wooden sides get stained with urine?
I forgot to mention, the sides on the inside are lines with the vinyl, too. I’m going to take some pics and will post back!
^ This first one was when we first made it. So far, this has been the best litterbox or us. It’s heavy enough so he doesn’t move it around, and it’s high where it needs to be (behind the hay, and where he pees), and lower where is needs to be. If this was a regular store bought litterbox, he would be crunched in there, but he’s not a small bunny. It cleans easily. Caulking was used in the cracks/seams of the vinyl–it isn’t actually the pre-cut tiles. I couldn’t find the right size. We got a big chunk of it cut off at Lowes, then i measured and cut the sizes I needed and used spray adhesive to attach it. Then we added those wood “railings” to the tops so he couldn’t eat the edges of the vinyl.
You might be able to tell in the next two photos, that I had to line the edges of the carpet with wood because he was eating it!lol, We also covered the carpet on the 1st level and the 2ns level (landing) with ceramic/porcelain tile.
Wow! That is a cool litter box!
Thanks! It’s helpful in more ways than one, too. Every night, late, or early in the morning, he would toss his pellet dish over the edge, and his veggie bowl, he would make a horrible mess. Now, i put his pellet dish in the vacant corner and put his veggies around it, inside. He has NEVER, so far, gotten his pellet dish out of there, everything stays in there nice and neatly! Will have to post pics of it tomorrow.
oh what the heck. Here it is lol
I use pine pellets and I use cardboard boxes that my husband’s office receives paper in as the litterbox. I am really lucky, his office goes through a lot of paper so he brings home the empty boxes and I fill them with pellets and hay. When that gets soiled I add more pellets and hay on top every other day. Each box lasts about 4 days. After that I tape the lid on and throw the hole thing away. I know it’s so terribly wasteful but his office is going through all that paper anyway.
meow1: wow thats a nice litter box!!! what type of litter do you use in that? haha I never seen one like that.. wat are the circle bubble shaped stuff on the bottom?!?!?!
Guess what guys? Im using Newspaper and hay litter and it works AMAZING! Since i have a gigantic 100+ pound hay bale, I cover my buns litter box with newspaper I get for free and them put a giant stack of hay in there… It doesn’t smell and I change it every 2-3 days!
She’s using linoleum and wood stove pellets
I tried using newspaper and hay ….but I didn’t last long with 6 rabbits. Even with 2 now in my bedroom I have to change their aspen bedding everyday. You are lucky!
^ yep, Lintini is right on what i’m using
Thats cool how your rabbit uses litter only on that corner! !My bunny would’ve peed and pooped all over.. Yuck ![]()
Yeah he only pees in that one corner, and little along the one side of the box, and that’s it. The poos are more scattered though, but usually not in the corner where I put his pellets and veggies. I use a cat litter scoop throughout the day to keep his poohs outta the way where he sits to eat lol
Large cat litter box with wood stove pellets ![]()
