hey guys : ) I’ve a got a a few little questions for you bunny experts!

Okay, so. Since the week I brought her home, Lola has had an obvious attraction to my bed. The mattress and boxspring are directly on the floor, without a frame but I still didn’t expect this tiny little bunny to hop all the way up there!
But anyway, it’s quite a nuisence in itself considering she enjoys not only pooing,  but peeing on it aswell(I’ve had the missfortune to learn that bunny pee can weave its way through 3 layers of blankets and STILL soak the mattress. oy vey. )  I know that until I get her spayed, this may just be something I have deal with, eventhough I have seen a little progress with litter training. (Though my dad keeps insisting its just a “right time, right place” fluke XD)

Anyway, I wouldnt have a problem with her up there if I didn’t have to worry about washing my quilts every night. So each time she hops up, I’ll say no a few times while gently ushering her back to the floor. It’s worked to extent that I now just have to look at her up there, then she’ll stop and look at me all guilty like. I can tell she knows exactly what’s going on. Seems like a success to me, except not. When she sees me looking at her, and I start to nudge her off (very gently, I’ll repeat) she gets excited, when she jumps off she’ll run around and binky a few times. Five minutes later she’s up there again. It’s like I’ve made a game for her. fail.

And on another note, I’m curious about something she does while on my bed, starting a few weeks ago. She’ll get up there, and along with digging in my blankets (which I understand) she’ll also like…crawl? I dunno, it’s like she’s sniffing the blanket very intently. I checked, and she’s not eating it or anything. I’m not sure if I’m explaining this right, but I’m just curious. It’s something new for me to see. Even when she’s on the floor and the blanket is hanging off the bed, she’ll stand on her back legs, reaching to it and do the same. odd?

but yeah, thank you for reading this~ : ] I’m just a noob hoping to unlock the code to my Lola-bunny <3

yes it seems she thinks its all a game.LOL. i am not sure about crawling? is it like her stomach is touching the ground or is she just moving slowly?

Exactly the opposite of what I was going for XD

And yeah, I don’t think I explained it properly. But her stomach touches the blanket and it’s like she’s rubbing her face all over it, but not “chinning” more like her nose or something? If I can I’ll try to catch a pic or something when I see her do it next

Monkey does the same thing on the bed.. the crawling, not the pooping and peeing She is very interested in the smells, as she isn’t allowed up on it often. SHe has to investigate every inch of it very slowly to take it all in

As for the peeing on the bed… it was suggested to me at one point to put a plastic shower curtain on the bed for when the bunnies jump up. Protects it that way. Easier to clean up too! Once she is spayed her litter habits will hopefully get better

@Sani – it really is! xD it looks like she’s trying to hug the bed, and scurry about at the same time, haha

                    @Monkey – d’aww, that sounds cute X3
And that’s an amazing idea. At first I used like, 4 towels before getting yelled at by the madre > -> Didn’t work so great anyway. I’m definitely going to try it, thank you! And I do hope they will, I hate having to keep her cooped up in my room for fear of puddles everywhere

LEMONY HAS THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM! Except the bed is a good two and a half feet off of the ground. He still manages to get up there even when we try and block it off with pillows. We thought that it might go away with time, as he doesn’t pee anywhere outside of his cage. We tried those plastic mattress cover things over and under the blankets, but it made a huge mess anyway, and we gave up. We hope that neutering will help, but he is not allowed on the bed anymore. Perhaps you could try blocking off your bed with those grid things you can get from Target – they have been very useful in bunnyproofing under the bed.

Does she do this in other places?  Perhaps it’s just “a bed thing”  - Lemony is generally really good about peeing in his litterbox.  As for poo, he keeps it in the cage, but not necessarily in the litterbox.

You said you were having litterbox issues in general – did you do the “pick a corner thing” before you down the litterbox?  And are you cleaning up accidents with diluted vinegar to get rid of the smell so he doesn’t go in the same spot again?

Might be dumb questions… But that’s all I got.  Sort of a newbie too, we’ve been dealing with the same problems (ie: chewing destruction – bunnyproof EVERYTHING).

XD I’m glad to hear I’m not alone in this losing war! I also tried to block it with pillows, and blankets. But geez, she’s freaking persistent.
I want to look into the grids for sure, right now I’m kinda bumming around my friends to see if they have an old ex-pen I can borrow, lol.
As for other places, I’ve got one litter box in her favorite corner of my room that she pees in while out, then another in her cage. She’s pretty good from what I see about using the pans for urinating (poop is another story) except the bed. :/ I’ve got a half water/half vinegar spray bottle that I use whenever I see it, but the battle still rages on! lol I know she knows she isn’t allowed, I swear she’s evil. It seems to thrill her that she’s doing something so very naughty XD

I guess I’m lucky, my bed is waist high for me, so miss monkey cant jump on it on her own I pick her up and put her on it for play time sometimes

Lemony does the binky thing too after he gets pushed off… That’s so funny, they totally know they are being naughty. Sometimes he will jump up like 5 times in a row just for the thrill of the chase.

Is she doing the tummy crawl type thing after digging? If so, it’s probably related. When they dig they push the pile of excavated dirt out using their front paws. Often stretching out onto the belly. Sometime indoors you see them do a digging motion and an arranging motion – like pushing bedding around. It’s all pretty cute to see.

Edit: just a thought – maybe she is flopping. Some end up more on the tummy when doing this. Have you seen her do the bunny flop yet?

If you can’t prevent her from getting on the bed, do water proof it (like with shower curtain) and maybe even put a litter box up there too. So she gets idea it’s ok to be on the bed – not ok to pee on it – ok to pee in litter box. That’s not too confusing right?! lol

Those picnic rugs that have a plastic backing on them might come in handy. If bun pees it absorbs into blanket part but hopefully not thru to bedding underneath.

                                Hi Whittershins !

My bun Indiana Jones used to pee on my bed, pillows…and even my face in the middle of the night. I had to lock him in his cage at night until he was neutered. All bed wetting has stopped since then.

Bee ….she is 4 months old and is constantly sniffing and digging in my bed. She dug a hole in my sheets but she isn’t peeing in it…yet.

I’ve seen them *dig dig dig* then like…push the blankets. Idk if thats what Lola is doing. Anywho, everyone told me the peeing would stop once my bun was speutered, and they were right. So just hang on and do what you can till you can spay her.

Thanks for all the insight everyone!

You are lucky Monkey, but I’m thinking about putting my bedframe back together. perhaps that’ll help, haha

And lol! Maybe all bunnies have that bit of naughty streak in them, it’s just so thrilling to be bad!

Now that you mention it Jerseygirl, she does dig around a lot when she does it. I never really connected it, because she really isnt pushing the blankets, its like she’s licking them? lol, could be it though!

And usually when she flops she goes straight to her side/back first, lol but I would love to see a bunny do a giant belly flop xD

Lintini, that’s very reassuring about the the spaying. I’ve been telling myself to just be patient, and maybe she’ll calm herself down afterwards. I think she’s finally hit her teen stage, so I’ve just gotta find the monies, haha

But really, your face? D8 that sounds like a horrible way to wake up

Some buns find the softness of the bed or pillow to be an ideal litter box. Others just do it to show you that they are angry at you. My first rabbit, when I had no idea how to treat them, had it’s life goal of getting onto my bed and peeing on my pillow. That’s all it lived for.
