01/14/2010 11:03 PM [script removed]Alert i have a couple questions and i dont know what to do about them.. well my little angles. have a lil problem with flinging the bottom of there cage all over. and with there food dish its a nice thick one and its hooked to the cage. but you can take the bowl off and stuff. but they used to like taking it off and dump all the food every were in the bottom of the cage. i have two. and the bigger one of the both has broken the one of the hook thingy to hook the bowl to the cage. and the bigger one has chewed a hole in the water bottle and chews on the cage alot. but i have given them paper towel rolls and stuff like that to chew on even sticks and stuff. but he just keeps chewing. what can i do cause i cant leave the water bottle hooked to the cage cause all he does is chew on it. and bangs the bowl all around. what do i do? he also jumps on the little one chases him around the cage and mounts him. (if ya know what i mean) haha. and there brothers by the way.

If they can do this, hopefully they’ll send you a message to notify you, so keep watch for that. I had a quick look at your profile info and you say you’re uncertain if the boys have been fixed? Having them together in the same cage when they are not fixed could be a real issue as they can fight badly – especially when they reach puberty. Do you know how old they are? As to the other issues, I would suggest getting them heavy ceramic food and water bowls. Rabbits do really well drinking out of a crock. I see you have bedding on the cage floor in your picture. Do you have a litter box in there for them? If you take out all the bedding and only have a box with bedding or litter in it, I think this will help contain the mess plus also help in litter training if they are not yet trained.   …..as everyone took their seats at the BB meeting, I was invited to start. “Hi, my name is Kate – and I’m a Bunaholic…..”

Welcome!

Bunnies will chew on things and try to throw food bowls around. That is part of how they play. I agree that heavy crocks might work better than a clip on bowl. For the water bottle, can you suspend the bottle outside of the cage so only the tip is going thru the bars?

I would also look into getting another cage b/c they will need to be separated soon, unless they can be neutered before their bond breaks. Just b/c two buns are siblings, that does not mean they will not fight. Have thy been to a vet for a chec-up to ensure they are BOTH BOYS? This is a big one b/c they are very easy to mis-sex when young.

My bunnies LOVE to chew on everything EXCEPT the toys I give them, so I know what you mean. I have had a lot of luck with cardboard boxes. I usually cut a small tunnel in one side so the bunnies can get in and out, and they spend a lot of time hanging out in the box, as well as spend a lot of time “remodeling” the doorway.

As far as flinging a food dish, I don’t use a large food dish because I only feed one Tablespoon of pellets in the morning, and one at night, so I usually just put it somewhere on the ground, and my bunnies eat it within an hour or two, so there is nothing to dump over.

I agree with Beka on the water bottle, there should be a way to hang it outside the cage, so that just the metal tip is inside the cage. I actually use water crocks for my bunnies that screw onto the side of the cage. They are made out of a very hard plastic that the bunnies can’t chew. I got these from the cat or dog aisle at Petsmart.
