So Daisy’s had a setback in her litterbox habits.  I’m getting annoyed (but her sweetness makes up for it).  ANYHOW, what color is urine?  I always thought it was clear-ish, but she seems to be peeing next to the box and it looks like milk, white as snow.  Is that normal?  Could she have an infection?

        TIA!

Well, it can be anything from brown, reddish orange to pale yellow. Rabbits also excrete some calcium through their urine so it could dry to a white and chalky…this is not sludge though.

I would wonder though if there is a possible urinary infection – I cannot tell by the color of urine for this – usually it’s more of a change in litterbox behavior for me.

hmmm…. yeah I googled it and I don’t think it’s sludge, and quite honestly, she’s too new to the family to really qualify a definite “change” in litterbox habits. She seems ok most of the time and then she’ll have big setbacks and pee outside her box. SHe has NEVER urinated outside the cage though, so I’m wondering if it’s an attitude thing. She also doesn’t seem to be in pain when she urinates, but it’s def white, chalky, milky or however you want to define it. Ruffles’ pee is always wet and orangish brown. I’m just confused as to how to get her to consistently use the box. I’m just trying to nail down the issue and want to rule out a medical reason.

That’s the best thing to do-first rule out a medical reason. You could take her in for a vet appointment and just have her tested. Generally it’s not white and if there’s been a change in habits or color that could signal a UTI. It’s best to probably get that checked out then look into behavior reasons.
