What ‘cha reading, watching or listening to currently?

I’ve been doing alot of reading lately….finished:

Philippa Gregory’s “Virgin Earth” which I quite liked;

Sara Paretsky – “Bitter Medicine” – a V.I. Warshawski novel (she’s a Private Investigator) – love this series;

Greg Iles – “Mortal Fear” – kind of creepy but okay;

Just started Greg Iles “Third Degree” – seems good so far.

Been watching “The Office” (US version) on Netflix – almost finished – pretty funny – better with Steve Carrell in the episodes so the last 2 seasons are just okay.

Not sure if next I am going to watch “6 Feet Under” or “Suits” on Amazon Prime although I have quite a bit recorded on my DVR that I need to watch.  I really really want to get rid of cable though because I am finding plenty to watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime which I am enjoying.  Although there are a few cable shows I really like watching like “Chopped” and some AMC shows…I am recording “Better Call Saul” but I understand the first season will be out on Netflix later this year.  Also the last season of Mad Men.

I love “Who Do You Think You Are” on TLC too but only a few seasons are available on Netflix DVD so I’d be sad not to see this.

Really want to break that Cable connection though because it’s just so overpriced and I only watch a few channels.  Also I need to read more.

I don’t really listen to anything other than NPR radio but I do have some Elvis CD’s I listen to but they just make me cry because I think of Etienne .

I love Suits Sarita! I have been watching it on freetv for the last few years so I think I am up to date? I can’t wait to see Better Call Saul, but I need to sign up to see that – so don’t anyone give it away! Lol!
I am up to date with the Good Wife (love it so much!) and Revenge and Parenthood and Scandal and…. yep, I watch to much TV, ha ha ha ha!

I am so sorry that listening to Elvis makes you cry thinking of Etienne, but take comfort that I do the same – I listen to the music I shared with my mum, the Eagles, Neil Diamond for example. I either have a party on my own while thinking of her, or I have a good cry cause I still desperately miss her. On a good night, I do both, lol!
Do you know Conway Twitty and his song Don’t Cry Joni? That was my mum’s and my exclusive song. I may cry while singing a long (it drowns out my voice, ha ha ha!) but I take so much comfort in OUR song. I hope that you can do the same – if not now, maybe one day? I wish you peace Sarita and know that I think of you often.

PS – Did I tell you??? I finally watched Orange is the New Black! I missed the first season, but am getting into season 2 and loving it – thank you for not giving away the story line! BIG smile!

Okay, cannot wait to watch Suits now! I need to add those 3 others to my list as well – of course, I also have House of Cards – Season 3 – on my list. I’m thinking that I might be able to cut that ridiculous cable that I have – almost $100 a month for that and then about $68 for internet – really taking a close look this year at all my expenses.

Have to watch Season 2 of “Orange is the new Black” – I really loved Season 1.

And there is not a darn thing wrong with that Farrah Fawcett hairstyle – I could never wear it successfully although I wanted to so bad. She was such an Icon and so beautiful…I loved Charlie’s Angels. Funny to watch those old shows now too – what we thought was glamorous and even what we thought was funny then just is so much different than today….I still love to watch “Saturday Night Fever” and that music still gets me dancing.

OMG – I am a huge John Travolta fan thanks to that movie along with Grease! Talk about ‘dance it up’! I’m one of those embarrassing people who has no shame and will dance (and sing) along to all my ‘classic’ music any time, any place. Ha ha ha!

PS – do NOT tell anyone…. I watched the Love Boat the other morning at 3am and thought WTH? I remember back as a kiddy getting my pillows and setting myself up to stay up late (9.30pm) to watch it, LOL! The memories…. gosh, talk about laugh!

Well, as I’ve said, I’m watching True Detective and it’s a killer show. I know I’m obsessing but I’ve not seen anything even half as good since Twin Peaks first aired (in 1990 or so). I’ve seen all of House of Cards except the finale, seasons 1 and 3 were really good but season 2 was disappointing. Orange is the new black is really good, season 2 is even better than the first season. Last season of The Killing was a huge disappointment though. I love Suits.

I’m not up to date with The Good Wife, it’s not currently running on any channel I’ve access to. I love that series.

I’ve not seen Better Call Saul, I never really liked Breaking Bad and never got through it. I started Bloodline the other day though. I don’t know about that one =/ Maybe it’ll get better.

Yesterday I finished the huge MOOC on neuroscience that I’ve spent most of my free time on these last 12 weeks, and I’ve not (yet) signed up for any new MOOCs because this last one was exhausting. When spring comes for real I’ll start reading books again, I have trouble reading in the winter (dark winters here) because my eyes are not good. We do have electricity in Sweden, but natural light is way better for my eyes =)

Bam I have heard something about bringing Twin Peaks back to tv. I am not sure if its going to be old episodes or a new version. I am interested in watching it. I loved that show back in the day. yeah True Detective was good. I will miss Mathew’s character as well. The new cast is interesting thus far from what I have heard. I look forward to watching the second season.

I have been watching Better call Saul. I am not sure how I feel about it. Its not like Breaking Bad though. Breaking bad was a better show and different. I didn’t like Saul that much on Breaking Bad but I think I like him more and more on this show. I will keep watching it when I don’t have anything else to watch.

I’m reading “Wolf Hall”. There is a UK (I think) show based on it so I’d love to watch it after I read the book. It’s another Tudor era novel with the lead character being Thomas Cromwell, one of the people who helped Anne Boleyn become Queen.

Just finished the last season of “Downton Abbey” and Season 1 of “Once Upon a Time”.

Don’t panic LPT (LOL!) my kid’s survived the embarrassment with no harm done (that I know off?) due to my public displays of singing along or breaking out a cool (so I think?) dance move! Twin Peaks will be a new version, can’t wait for that! The hubby is a huge fan. We just finished season 4 of Game Of Thrones. Also we’re still working on the second season of Bates Motel. Other than that, we watch The Goldbergs (I love that show!) and Black-ish.

I plan to Hazel! Netflix was just released here (in Australia) this week, so I am hoping to get it connected in the next few months? I can’t wait to see season 1??? Lol! AndHenry – Etienne’s favorite band was Pink Floyd…he did like Elvis but it’s more a thing for me about Elvis that makes me cry. There are just so many to name that make me cry – not all the time but sometimes…like “Bridge over Troubled Water” and “I Did It My Way” – I know those are cover versions but Elvis did them so well and they are sad songs. And of course his country songs like “Kentucky Rain”, “Green Green Grass of Home” and just so many more – I think maybe it’s because I’m driving too – driving in Dallas can make you cry sometimes too :~)

I am watching “Suits” now and it’s so good! I really think I will be able to cut the Cable cord soon since I’ve been slowly weaning myself off cable…woohoo!

I’ve been listening to David Rosenfeldt’s books on audio on the trip back and forth to work. The Andy Carpenter series is wonderfully entertaining, especially on audio. Occasionally I replay a small portion for my husband who rarely likes fiction and he laughs and laughs

On Easter Sunday, while doing stuff around the house I played an ‘Elvis’ song! I couldn’t help myself, I played another and another till I ended up playing his music all day, he he he – he truly was/is awesome! Amazing what you forget and when reminded, the new found appreciation of something so wonderful!

You’d think I’d be keen for 6 foot under, especially with an Aussie actor (Rachel) featuring in the series – but I never watched it….. if it comes up on Netflix, I’ll give it a go!

I’m just finishing up on the last season (3 I think) of “Once Upon A Time” on Netflix. I can’t wait until the upload season 4. Although some of the episodes have gotten a little..Hmm how to word it… “Cheesy” or something… Although I do really like the show.

I went and saw “Cinderella” today for the first time (the new one in theaters). I heard they are making one of Disney’s “Mulan” also, and that it’s supposed to be good. I really want to see “Insurgent” although I haven’t even seen “Divergent” yet and that’s the first movie. I read the books a year or two ago and they were REALLY good, but REALLY sad! I don’t mind watching sad movies if I’m alone, because I can cry in peace/freely, but it can be un-enjoyable with other people because you are forcing yourself not to cry…LOL!

I usually listen to a mixture of different music. I usually don’t find a song artist that I like all/most of their songs. Although I’ve been really liking Ed Sheeran’s music from what I’ve heard. Especially “Thinking Out Loud” “Kiss Me” “The A Team” and “I See Fire (a song from the movie “The Hobbit”).
And then a mix of random songs.

PS Moxie – I love all the new movies that come out, but we wait till they get released on DVD and buy them for Blair. Then Blair and I have movie night….. lol! I bought him Jersey Boy’s (Clint Eastwood) and we LOVED it! I took Blair to see Jersey Boy’s stage show and it was brilliant!

My favourite is still Toy Story 3 – and yes, I cried!!!  Lol! OH! And with music…. ever since we discussed Taylor Swift and you corrected me on Romeo and Juliet (LOL!), and asked if I knew her new song ‘blank space’ – when I hear it I think of you, he he he…..  Amazing how music/a song can remind you of something or someone….

Yeah, I love those two as well. I used to watch Star Trek: Voyager a lot back in the day, so seeing her again in Orange is the new Black is awesome!

The Babadook is going to be on Netflix this Tuesday, we’ve been waiting for that! Although I know I’ll regret watching it…

Moxie- I love Once Upon a Time! My favorite season by FAR is season 3. I loved Pan, he was such a good villain! I just finished the Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. I don’t think I have ever read a series that is as well written! Disclaimer- they are very intense, and the ‘villains’ are very realistic evil people. They really make you think. If I had to give a movie rating, it would be a high PG-13 or R. I like giving movie ratings to books

I have been watching MASH also. Hawkeye is definitely my favorite. I’m also desperately waiting until Christmas for the Sherlock special. That is hands down my favorite show, but there is so little of it!

I finished reading “The Bone Garden” by Tess Garrison – so good. Started and am halfway through “Cross” by James Patterson. Got to look through my library to see what I want to read next.

Netflix is adding so many good original series! I want to see Bloodline too.

I am binge watching Arrow, The 100, and Daredevil on Netflix at the moment. I am a bit obsessed with The 100. It’s pathetic. Lol.

Not reading anything other than textbooks at the moment. Zoology is pretty interesting and incredibly boring at the same time.

I’ve been watching Game of Thrones every week. I’m kinda curious about how they’re deviating from the original story line and, of course, when they’re going to areas non written yet.

I’ve been rewatching Scrubs for a while, I should finish during the summer. It’s such a good comedy and been reading Shift, the second book from the Silo series. It’s so good, but so disturbing. Very gripping!

Bates Motel is a good show. The guy that plays Norman Bates really gets into the part. Its just a take on the old movies like a prequel . My husband and I like that show.

We also watch Game of Thrones and my husband has read the books last year. I get annoyed because he will comment that wasn’t in the book or that isn’t how that happened in the book. I told him they were deviating more and more away from the original story. I told him to quit comparing them.

As for books I listen to what my husband gets on audio books when I am in the car with him. He will keep me updated on the stories. We finished a series called Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson I kind of like Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight series.

I finished Shift, so I’m hopefully going to the library today to get “A red herring without mustard”. I need a happy/silly book to balance off Shift.

I used to watch Gray’s Anatomy – back when my video player worked and I recorded everything on video……
I then got a TiVo – it was the BEST recorder EVER!!! It died and I’m told I can’t have it repaired or buy a new one??? Do you know how many Judge Judy episode’s I had recorded that I can’t watch now??? About 60! Along with some Law and Order episode’s. It was a sad day when my TiVo died, sniff – wiping my eyes.
Do you know I still have it in case I come across someone who may be able to fix it…….

I haven’t watched Gray’s since last year. I got Netflix now, so I’m not current with most shows (except Game of Thrones and Doctor Who). But I’ve heard about who died! Must have been a shock to everyone.

I started reading “The Rosie Project” last night and I love it! So much fun, I’m almost half way through. I really needed a happy book

I’ve been a reading machine! Just finished “Prior Bad Acts” by Tami Hoag – very good; “The Undomestic Goddess” by Sophie Kinsella and she’s the queen of chic lit so it was an very fun and easy read.

Currently reading “The Appeal” by John Grisham and he’s one of the masters of legal fiction so it’s off to a very good start. Next is “The Eight” by Katherine Neville – this was given to me a long time ago by a friend who said it is one of her favorite novels, so I am looking forward to reading it.

Been watching “Nashville” on my DVR – just love this show, it’s so ridiculous but the music is so good.

Also been watching “Nurse Jackie” – Netflix DVD’s – I am really loving this show – it’s very dark about a nurse who has a prescription drug addiction and Edie Falco is just so good in this.

So I finished watching my recordings of “Nashville” – so good, I really enjoy this show.

Now I’m on the 3rd episode of “Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies” – fascinating stuff. It can be difficult to watch though, but I highly recommend you watch it if they show it were you are.

Also working my way through “Nurse Jackie” on Netflix DVD – very good show.

I’m am trying very hard to wean myself from cable – getting there, slowly but surely too.

I am addicted to Grey’s anatomy, even if it is a bit too “soap operaish” (like JR said) for my taste sometimes. As for the last episode, I am not ashamed to say I was in tears. That might have had to do with the fact it was 1am and I had been doing work stuff for the last 7 hours? :’D But how could they do that? Are they on a mission to kill everyone?

Started reading “The Eight” by Katherine Neville – a friend gave this to me a long long time ago as her favorite book…so far, it’s pretty interesting, but haven’t gotten into it enough to know if it will continue to hold my interest, but so far so good.

AndHenry – you will love Netflix – so many great shows – not sure what they are going to offer in your country but hopefully as much as we have in the US. I have a Roku and I also have a DVD player that allows me to get Netflix and Amazon Prime (which allows you to get Prime Instant Video).

I do like ‘shady’, ha ha ha….. I am telling myself not to expect it to be another ‘breaking bad’ Sarita, but I hope it keeps me entertained and hanging on for the next episode. I love that when I HAVE to see the next episode straight away!
One thing I found funny with breaking bad – someone gave us a copy of the seasons and it didn’t have the English subtitles when they spoke in Spanish – my hubby was able to translate it to me word for word (yes, I had to press pause), but BONUS! When it was passed on to our next friend, I joked he was going to miss/not understand a couple of episodes – and he didn’t! Ha ha ha ha! I knew my hubby would come in handy for ‘something’ one day, lol!

I watched Breaking Bad on Netflix and I don’t think they had the Spanish Subtitles either on that – maybe they didn’t on the original airing either….funny, Etienne could understand Spanish too – he called it kitchen Spanish – he was a chef so he worked in the kitchen and I guess he picked up some Spanish and could talk to his employees in Spanish.

Sarita, Dr Sleep it is, of course!! It’s the sequel to The Shining.

I liked it. Classic Stephen King the way he’s been writing these last 15-20 ys or so. Many genuinely likeable characters, several very unlikeable. I have a very soft spot for Stephen King.

I’ve now re-started The Son by Philip Meyer. There’s cruelty in it that I found difficult to cope with, so I didn’t finish it last fall. But I mostly read books in the summer, lots of them, in my allotment garden.

OK, well, after Sarita and someone else I know spoke about Six Feet Under, my husband and I decided to try it. It’s weird (noone’s said it’s the most amazing show, so we weren’t looking for perfection) but somehow we keep watching it. WELL… the most recent episode had a TOTALLY NAKED MAN walk out!!!!!!!! I sat up like a shot and struggled for my glasses, as hubby tried to cover my eyes. I said, “No!!! Rewind it!! I wanna see!!!!” But then they had more and I decided it didn’t do much for me. But geez!!

I read “Matched” and am currently reading “Crossed”. After that the last book is “Reached”, I borrowed that from a friend. After that I will need to go back to the library and find some more good books to read. The library in town doesn’t have a very good/range of selections to choose from though…
Not really in a series or anything…
And for music still just stuff like Ed Sheeran, 5sos or a mix of songs from other artists. (A lot of the time I just like a song or two from somebody).

 Yes, ma’am!  I love Michael C. Hall – he was so good in Dexter which is why I want to watch this and well, I’m curious about the funeral home too – I had a second cousin who had a funeral home (pretty sure he no longer is a second cousin though – he was a bit odd).  I remember when we were young getting a tour of the funeral home – it was very interesting.  I do find cemeteries interesting as well – I probably wouldn’t go at night to one, but they are interesting…I remember going to Pere Lachaise in Paris where Jim Morris was buried (don’t know why his burial plot is so interesting to people – so many more interesting people buried there (who also happen to be French).

Anyway, going to start watching this very soon!  Especially want to see the frontal nudity LOL…

And bam was right Sarita. The hubby is from the Canary Islands, Spain. His family moved here when he was 7 and they all had to learn English. The hubby and his sibling’s have no accent even though they are all fluent in Spanish, but his parents…. every time they talk to me I constantly say HUH? (while pulling a face). But I hate when they talk in Spanish in front of me – it’s rude! Knowing I can’t and don’t understand. Don’t tell the hubby this… but if his mum ring’s and talks in Spanish on the answering machine I delete it! Not that I have been caught yet, but my excuse will be that I didn’t understand. And NO! I don’t visit – are you crazy???

An update…. I just finished watching series 1 of State of Affair’s, am recording Stalker and Empire. These are all American shows…. please, someone tell me they know what I am talking about???

Gosh bam – that is your back yard? WOW! So beautiful!!! And that is Ephie? She is just beautiful too, I think I’ve only seen her once before in your profile pics. I reckon Empire will be great Sarita – I can’t wait to watch it, I think I only have 1 or 2 more episodes to record before I have all of Season 1 – then I will wait for a miserable cold rainy day for an excuse to stay in bed all day to watch it!!! He he he he…..

Ok, I wore that (not really) but for Den to have her brother in his bridal party and not his own brother crushes me – all her family is included in the wedding and we (5 of us) are guests! Blair should be his best man or at the very least one of his many groomsmen.

It’s a long story, Sarita, but as a brother, Blair should have been invited. I think some people want everything perfect no matter the fall out and I suspect that is this girl’s goal. I do hope AH and she can find a happy medium. Sounds like they are already better off than I am with my son’s fiancée Haven’t seen her in ,oh, I lose count…2 1/2 years??? Wow, what a b…. That’s an awful thing to do. What does Den think about this? HER brother gets to be in his party but not Blair?! I’m sure Den’s a great guy (he’s your son, after all ), but I do think he should have put his foot down on this one. I’m glad your daughter will include Blair in her wedding, at least. I’ve gotten along with my son’s girlfriends better than with my son (most of the time)! His last girlfriend actually called snd texted me when she needed someone to talk to!

My mother-in-law wins the prize. The first time she came to visit, hubbt had a bite on his leg that was itching like crazy. My MIL’s comment? “When you lie down with dogs you get up with fleas.” Then, when she met my parents, she told my mother (hubby and I were living together but hadn’t yet gotten married although we were planning to) that “it’s bad enough having a son living with someone, but it must be awful for you when its your daughter”. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black on both counts! Aside from the fact that *her* daughter, married to a minister, was cheating on her husband, we’re talking about a woman who used my toenail clippers to “tweeze” her eyebrows . . . in my living room! Pure class! It took her 2nd husband telling her that I’m the only reason my hubby didn’t turn out screwed up like her other kids before she started acting civil toward me. Do I want to travel 16 hours each way to visit her? Delete!!!

Wish I had made it up. No pleasing this woman. She’s into crafts so I took her to a local crafts fair, nope she’d been to better. Took her to see some of the caverns in Virginia, nope she’s been to Carlsbad. Took her Monticello — not impressed, she said everything was “so old”! (As AH would say, Duh!) Took her to the Smythsonian (she paints), it was “just alright”! I gave up. She’s been like this with all of her kids’ spouses. I don’t let it bother me anymore, I just don’t get on the phone with her unless I have to and I don’t have to go visit — oops! Couldn’t possibly leave the bunnies for that long! LOL!

Sorry for the confusion Sarita – it was very late (way past my bed time, lol!) and as I wrote it made sense to me, hehehehe……. Sometimes it’s hard to express emotion and the why’s in a post, lol!
You did come up with the right word bam – insensitive! I think my biggest problem is, I can’t stand anyone being made the ‘exception’ and to have it happen to my own son, well…. it hurt. Den is very aware of how I feel, but I suppose his wife to be and her happiness is now his new priority (as it should be). Just a shame it was at the expense of Blair – he would have relished in the role of being a groomsman and I believe would have done Den proud.
BUT I promise you all, I am getting over it and promise to enjoy the day (yes Hazel, I will make Captain Jack proud and indulge in a R&C or 10? LOL!) and I am trying really hard not to let this affect my future relationship with my future D.I.L – she has no idea how much this has disheartened me. I don’t want to be one of those mum’s who never see’s there son so I have backed down big time! I have MB to thank a lot for my attitude – sharing in a simular dilemma (bloody son’s and new GF’s, lol!) and knowing I wasn’t the ‘only’ one made all the difference. Thank you MB for the comfort, concern and support you offered not only me, but your compassion for Blair.
Gosh JR! What you described is exactly what I am trying to avoid – I ‘never’ see my M.I.L either. And the sad part? I’m perfectly fine with that!

I’m reading Us by David Nicholls. Still working may way through Breaking Bad. Season 4 was better than the rest, but season 5 kind of sucks. Walt is an idiot. I just want to kick him.

Yesterday I watched Parrot Confidential on TV, a lovely, lovely documentary about parrot rescues. I warmly recommend it to all of you, incl those of you who doesn’t have/ has had birds. I’ve never had a bird. It was very moving and interesting. If you have 53 minutes to spare, watch it!

In the documentary they said parrots in captivity often succumb to heart-disease from stress, they are not well adapted to sitting alone in a small cage all day doing very little. I was wondering if that could be a possible reason why you hear so much about rabbits that die suddenly and unexpectedly from, like, heart-stop. Perhaps it’s NOT just the neighbour’s dog suddenly barking that kills the bunny, but a stressful living-situation that’s been going on for a long time, maybe in the bunny’s baby-hood (many of us have rescues that we don’t know the full histories of.), so the heart is weakened from prolonged stress and the dog barking (or some such similar sudden event) is just the drop that makes it all spill over.

Our bunnies are domesticated in a way that parrots are not, but maybe there’s some similarity?
