› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › What breed are they?!
Hello fellow bunny-lovers! I am new to the forum, just was wondering well…what are my bunnies?! Me and my husband got the from a pet store in May of 08, and were told that they were holland lop/dutch combo? We thought that they were brother and sister, although we got them at different times, but now are questioning that. Delilah, with the milk lip (and chin…so cute!!!),is bigger in general then Davey, and has a COMPLETELY different shape face and head. I guess he just seems small compared to her at least…Didn’t know if anyone had any ideas?! Attatched are a picture of each of them, and one together.

OMG! They are precious. So glad you posted. I just saw a post you made in another thread and immediately saw the avatar pic. I was going to beg you in that thread to please post pics of your bunnies……….and here they are!
They certainly could be the mix you were told. The dutch may have given them the uppy ears and I can see a lot of holland lop in the body and face shape. The dutch is a classic and instantly recognisable breed with the white blaze on the forehead and band around the body. However, even in pure dutch litters, not all would have this classic marking. So a mixed dutch litter could certainly produce rabbits without any classic dutch markings.
I think the colouring could be sooty fawn or siamese sable point………I get confused with them all! Also, with such similar colouring, I daresay they are siblings. The difference in sizes could be attributed to the mix of breeds in they’re parentage.
So, technical breed terms aside, to answer your question “what are my bunnies?” Well, they are just the most gorgeous faced things ever – is what they are!
They definitely look a lot like my holland lop in the face. Although it’s weird to see a “lop” with uppity ears! My Noelle wears hers up sometimes, but usually not both at the same time. 🙂 I like Jersey’s theory with the Holland Lop for the face and colouring, Dutch for the ears and size variation. Although I am certainly far from well-informed in this area.
I love the pics though – such cute little munsters!
I agree, there is definitely lop in them. They have very broad ears but the forehead is not wide enough to allow them to flop. Do their ears ever go down or they’re always uppy? If you got them at different times, they may be from different litters by the same parents. So technically siblings, but not littermates per se. They look identical. In that last pic, Davey looks like he’s smiling. Right where his nose ends, it’s turned up and it looks like a grin… they are so CUTE!
Her ears do flop more than his but only when she is really relaxed. His don’t do it quite as much but every once in a while if you rub him the right way down they go!
When we went to the pet store they were both there at the same time, but we bought Davey first. She was with him at the same time and was about the same size, so thats when they “told” us that they were brother and sister but we were never for sure. She ended up not getting sold and we wanted a friend for Davey so they gave her to us for free, and she was sooo aggressive at first but then once she met Davey she has been a total sweetheart, all she needed was a friend
This is a pic I got of Davey yawning, it makes me laugh every time I see it!
I can’t help you on what breed they are but omg they are cute! I love the yawning picture ![]()
I was going to post about their noses looking like a smiley but someone beat me to it hehe! My eyes were playing tricks on me ![]()
Oh my! That yawning picture is amazing!!
hahah awww, yawning is so ferocious looking to the human eye
They are really sweet. Love the radar ears!
LOL LOL! That yawning pic……..Would you mind if I save that one? lolololol
lol go for it! I cant help but laugh every time I see it!
OMG I just cackled (seriously cackled) at that pic!!!
Whatever your buns are let me know-we have an identical twin at my shelter!! They look sooo similar its too cute. I know their coloring is called blue torte-much help I know ![]()
omg! If there was a breed called adorable, this would be them! So freaking cute! Their little brown noses! awww
All i can tell you is they are super cute!
Yawn photo is awesome!
I think it is reasonable that they could be littermates. If they are mixed breed- it looks like the female bunny has more Lop characteristics that developed and Davey has more of the dwarf bunny characteristics. They are so adorable- it is a cute pic of them together- they look so alike- yet so different!
What a super duper cute pair this is!!!! That yawning pic is a crack-up too!
Maybe Davey was sticking his tongue out, saying, “no more pics, Mom!” hehe Just teasing ![]()
they look dutch to me( well in the faces) …..in my dutchies is this unmistakable look on their face and your buns seem to have it lol. but i also think that is more then lop and dutch these two. i have seen the offspring of dutch/hol lop many times and there is a big difference with yours in comparison with them. so something else is there for sure. but whats it matter they are absolutly adorable!!!!!![]()
I ditto what was said about the avatar….anytime I saw it I thought they were little smiley faces w/ the smudgy nose and the lines under their nose. So stinkin’ cute!
