I can’t figure out what is good for rabbits, I roamed the produce section for a while looking for leafy greens, and came across Kale. My bunny loves the stuff, but then found out that more then a handful a week can be harmful to them. So what exactly are these ‘green’s that I’m supposed to be feeding my rabbit 3 cups a day?!

I also just found the list on this site, very helpful. Thank you.

Take care to introduce new greens to him slowly.

The basics are best! Romaine lettuce is a daily staple of my bun’s diet. It’s relatively cheap and will stay fresh (at least in my fridge) for a solid week. Other green leafy veggies can also be interchanged. Herbs are favorites also. You don’t have to get the most expensive, gourmet veggies.

Yep, I too use Romaine as a staple, along with Green Leaf lettuce and Red Leaf Lettuce. Kale is a treat that isn’t daily, and many members’ buns love mint, parsley and cilantro. But the mild lettuces are good for a start, and should not be changed more than once a week or two.

Be sure NOT to give Iceberg lettuce, the kind we are sold the most as humans. It’s weird, but that kind is bad for bunnies. If it has dark leaves, it’s better, just as a rule of thumb.

I also feed romaine and green leaf as staples (and sometimes chicory and escarole when it’s in season and the heads are huge). One of my buns also eats parsley like it’s going out of style, so I always have some of that around.

Oooh… escarole is another big fav of my bunch… the leaves seem “thicker” or something… they love it. Always give lettuce cores too! Buns love the core!

Green leaf and romaine lettuce are staples for my bunny. Spinach is good too, but don’t feed too much. Arugula is one of my bunny’s favorites, but it has a very strong taste so some bunnies might not like it. My bunny also loves carrot greens, radish greens, celery leaves, parsley, basil and cilantro.

I’m glad you found the list on this site. It is updated and confirmed with the HRS Headquarters Health Coordinator. (it was originally created by her and I never make changes to it unless confirmed with her). I’m not sure why the HRS website hasn’t been updated with it yet, but I am grateful to have it!

I feed Romaine, Red lettuce, cilantro, parsley, basil, mint, dill, dandelion greens, chikory, arugula (and I’ll add oregano when it’s more in season — normally from our own garden since it can be pricey in the store).  Oh, and I’ll also give them some fresh wheat grass when it’s on sale.

Both Gulliver & Lainey like flat & curly leaf parsley, beet greens, dandelion, kale, red & romaine (not as much) lettuce s as far as “greens” go.  Not too hot on swiss chard, mustard greens, chickory, escarole & spinach.  I also rotate bits of carrot, brocolli, cauliflower, turnip root & brussel sprouts .  For fruit snacks they like apples (Gulliver only likes certain types), blueberries, raspberries, blackberries (Lainey only), strawberries & grapes.  We’re lucky to live in an area that has fairly plentiful vegis all year long.  Prices have been dropping a bit lately as it usually does in the summer.  I had a blast introducing them to new foods…enjoy!

Fennel is ok, yes? It’s not on the HRS list, but other sources seem to say “ok.” And Lemony loves it…

                                Yes – Fennel is fine.
