What Am I?

This guy lives with me now, his owners got rid of him because they had too many animals and “no time for him”. His cage was stinky nasty, with a wire grate on the bottom (a peeve of mine for any animal). But other than that he seems like he was at least cared for and provided for. I got him a new cage and have provided a litterbox, which he took to immediately, and he has come out to greet us and the kitties a few times.

So I’ve been looking up pictures online and he looks to me like a californian rabbit, but he kinda looks like a himilayan too.  Can anyone tell by the picture which he is? Is he a mix of something else? It’s not terribly important to me, I’m just curious. 🙂

And this is him with my oh so playful cat Meatball. Meatball LOVES rabbits, and thinks they are ALL his best friend EVER. He is pretty sure he is a rabbit in a cat coat. But this picture just cracks me up. The timing couldn’t have been better. Meatball likes to reach out real slow and just touch the bunny. When he did, bunny flinched, but it looks like a knockout punch in the picture.

He’s a Californian. He’s beautiful. I’ve had a few Californians and some smaller ones that I called Himalayan’s. I would say though based on his size, he’s a Californian. They are wonderful rabbits.

Thanks, guys/gals! So is the only difference between himalayans and californians size?

He’s a pretty neat guy, complete opposite in personality from Morgan. Morgan lives upstairs and this guy (I’ve named him Meezer, cuz he reminds me of a siamese cat) lives downstairs and I have no intention of bonding anyone, cuz Morgan is a HS foster. I enjoy both of them seperately, and for very different reasons, because they’re very different from each other.

I’m hoping to get an appointment to have him neutered in February, but if not, he’ll be done the following month. They told me he was about a year and a half old, so I guess no real hurry at this point.

Is Meezer foster bunny too? He is lucky that you took him in (and so is Morgan).

The difference between a CA and a hemi is the body style, hemis are tubelike (Cylindrical), and Calis have a commercial arch.
And the fact they are an entirely different breed They just have similar coloring. Hemis do max out at about 4 1/2lbs though, where Calis’ get closer to 10lbs.

He’s absolutely beautiful. The barn where I used to board my horse had a Californian and he was the sweetest little guy. So easygoing. It’s one of my fave breeds.

Himalayan is a color and a breed – your bunny is too big to be the Himalayan breed, but he has the coloring which means he’s a Californian. The breeds are very different in body type and personality, but they do share the same striking coloring (and the coloring shows up in some other small breeds too, like nethies)

Thanks for all the information and compliments, everyone….. I kinda “fell into” rabbits after years and years of cat/kitten rescue and fostering. So I’m still fairly green on the breeds and colorations of them all.

This guy is a foster too, but he’s my foster, not through the HS like Morgan is. So he’ll be here til I adopt him out on my own. He’s a pretty nice little bun, but he’s terribly inactive during the day. He waits til the evening comes and his room gets dim/dark, then I hear him bounce out of his cage and start to play in his box and hop around the outside of his cage. Not exactly what I’d call an adventurous rabbit….which I’m hoping will come with time….. He has all day almost every day with the cage door wide open to come and go as he pleases, and mostly he seems to stay in. But he pops his head out to meet me when I talk to him, and waits for me to pet his head, so I don’t think he’s going through any rabbity-depression or anything.

oh, and Cheddar…. Is your Meatball a pudge? Our Meatball came to us as a foster through the HS as a fatty little round kitten. The name fit…. Then he reached his “teenage” phase, and he stretched out and thinned down….. not quite a Meatball anymore, more like Spaghetti. 🙂
